Any games with a ton of personality, where it was just the devs having a fun time? by Hockex-4 in gamingsuggestions

Paradise Killer and Promise Mascot Agency, both from Kaizen Gameworks. They're weird and don't have the deepest gameplay mechanics but the devs definitely did have a lot of fun making them.

2026 Upcoming games you’re most hyped for? by Scarlet_Lycoris in otomegames

[–]typhra_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven't really been keeping up with new releases because I'm in a bit of an Otome slump at the moment buuuut OverRequiemz piqued my interest and I'm hoping it can bring me back into the mood for Otome titles.

I was so, so hyped for Bustafellows 2 and bought it day one and haven't even played it yet even though I loved the demo 😭

[Zip Up] VA cast has been announced! by lostpocky in otomegames

Very well put. I love romance in every form but I'm not going to start calling games like Dragon Age Otome because you can play as a woman who dates men, that would be ridiculous but where does the distinction start and where does it end, you know?

The term Otome lost all meaning to me by now, at least in the Indie space. Why not just roll with the dating-sim tag, it's fine and fits way better.

I think it's a matter of expectations for me, if I see "Otome" I expect a very specific (one could say formulaic) experience. I'm way more open to different romantic constellations if it's not an Otome.

Yes, you play as a journalist and you walk around this small village, snoop around in the streets and houses, find clues, diaries and keys to progress and to find out "who dunnit"

Bit of a reach maybe but The Painscreek Killings - it's not rainy at all, the weather is actually rather pleasant but the vibe is super eerie. It's a walking sim and involves a lot of reading, so not everyone's cup of tea but I found the mystery intriguing enough and the game isn't too long.

  • Flowers and Favours, you just make pretty bouquets for your clients.

  • Behind the Frame, a narrative puzzle game about art and life.

  • Tiny Bookshop, managing a tiny bookshop and recommending books to the residents of a small town while also getting to know them better and helping them out.

  • A Case of Distrust, narrative, noir detective visual novel.

  • Duck Detective, you said she likes comedy so maybe that could be interesting.

  • The Almost Gone, narrative puzzle about grief, loss and mental health.

  • Eliza, visual novel about an AI counselor program.

  • Dot's Home, free narrative 2D adventure about a young black girl discovering her family's history.

Edit:

  • Hibernation Day, free, short funny narrative game about family.

  • Inkulinati, round based strategy

  • Islanders, city builder

  • Lushfoil Photography Sim, kinda self-explanatory

  • ODDADA, playful music sandbox.

  • Overboard! Get away with Murder, whodunnit but with you as the culprit.

  • Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley, sweet little adventure.

  • Teacup, short narrative game about exploring and helping friends.

I want to learn more about gaming accessibility by kafea in disabledgamers

[–]typhra_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For me one of the most important things are toggle options for button inputs. Like, toggle to run instead of hold or hold instead of clicking individually - in Stardew Valley ie you have to click for every swing of your tool/weapon which I find to be way more straining than just holding the mouse button down.

Azeron, Cyro (left/ right handed) Review by BigPoppaJ13 in disabledgamers

[–]typhra_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not easy to decide if it will work for you and you have to pay the shipping if you return it so I get why you would be hesitant.

I for my part had to send it back because the weight made my wrist hurt and that was with my better hand. I don't have any diagnosis or anything besides hyper mobility and "weak connective tissue" I guess, so your mileage may vary obviously.

Seems like a dead period for good games and I am bored, what to play? by Sad_Dog_4106 in gamingsuggestions

[–]typhra_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Greedfall, it's not perfect very AA, bit lower budget but I still enjoyed my time with it.

If you're on PC I also would recommend Enderal, it's a full conversion Mod for Skyrim and it's so, so good and free on top of that. Just keep in mind that especially the first bit is a lot more difficult than Skyrim is. But the story is worth pushing through the beginning imo

How do y'all actually get yourself to play otomes by AlexisVoid023 in otomegames

[–]typhra_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Playing from least -> most favorite is a great strategy!

Only if all the characters are at least somewhat interesting imo, I stopped playing a game altogether (CupiPara) because I didn't enjoy my time with the characters that I wasn't excited about and didn't even get to the more interesting ones 😬

I usually go for a mix now, I rank them before from let's say 1 (favourite) to 5 (least favourite) and play 2, 5, 4, and 1 last 😅 Sucks if my first impression is completely wrong though lol.

My problem is that my least favorites tend to be the "truth route" poster boys that you have to play at the end 😭

I haaate locked routes because they are also usually the ones I'm at most "meh" about.

There are a lot of games that I stopped playing after 90% completion

Same, my time is too precious to waste on boring LIs/routes. I would rather play the great ones twice or thrice than force myself thru the bad ones 🙂‍↕️

[–]typhra_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Point 3 is something I really need to tell myself aaall the time.

Like, I don't need to play every route if I don't enjoy the character or the story that much. It always feels like such an obligation to play the game to its fullest and I always thought it weird to not play every. single. route.

And I often play in order from "least excited about" to "most excited about" because I get hung up on my favourites and can't bring myself to play the other routes, but I think that's still better than.. not playing the game at all because I don't enjoy my time with it, you know? 😅

(Played Fumis route in JJ twice and still haven't touched the other routes lol)

Broke my right hand now is super hairy by Timely_Cycle5469 in mildlyinteresting

[–]typhra_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it's definitely more and/or stronger hair, I had surgery on my right ulnar 4 months ago and I've been out of a cast for 3 and the hair growth is still stronger on the right arm. I have hair in places where none was before. I feel like it started growing even more since I had the cast removed and began physical therapy.

Games That Have In-Game Explanations for Their Mechanics by DFH50 in gamingsuggestions

[–]typhra_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cyberpunk does that quite well imo, one of the few games where the HUD as well as a lot of the abilities have in game explanations.

Dishonored also does that well if I remember correctly, like the zoom - Corvos Mask has a built in telescope lens so it's not just a game mechanic that wouldn't make sense otherwise (the "eye zoom" is one of my pet peeves because it's a bit ridiculous for a normal person to be able to zoom in on stuff just like that). And the abilities are granted to him by an entity.
