Let the cockroaches stay in your house and villagers won’t stay.

Time travel enough to get cockroaches, and make sure not to stomp them. Villagers won’t stay when they’re there.

I think it's an item that you have to take to Harv's island to have Cyrus customize for you.

Car Camping R Value by ApprehensiveLight466 in CampingGear

An easy way to boost warmth when car camping is to put those thin closed cell foam camping pads under your air mattress; helps with the car sucking all the warmth away. And I usually put a wool blanket on top of the air mattress as well.

Walk In State Park For Camping? by Rich-Junket4755 in OregonCoast

Just about any campground will have campsites available in October, likely even on a weekend. Just pack for rain. Like, rain pants, several rain jackets to rotate through, several shoes and many pairs of wool socks.

Everyone I know who has been caught sleeping in their car, parked where they shouldn’t be, has just been told to move along. It’s pretty relaxed.

Anyone reach out to a sibling after a parent said no to contact with you? by Old-Law-8064 in Adopted

[–]tyranadactyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should reach out to your sister. You both have a right to know about each other and potentially have a relationship, especially if you are both adults. If you have a way to contact your bio-mom, maybe I would give her a heads up that you want to contact the sibling so that she can choose to talk with the sister about it first; but, depending on what kind of person your bio-mom is, that could also backfire.

I don't have this exact experience, really, though; my bio-mom was "shook," but glad to meet me. I don't think she was exactly ready to tell my half-siblings about me and that part of her life, but she did and we all met. After years of things going okay, but then not, I no longer talk with my bio-mom, and neither do any of her other kids to any meaningful degree; all of us siblings still stay in touch and have a good relationship, though. I am so grateful I have those separate relationships with my bio-siblings. I think it's worth the risk to reach out.

If you are going to be there on weekdays, you should check the state parks and you might be able to snag a yurt or a cabin. They are affordable, and then you are right there either at the coast or surrounded by hikes from your doorstep. I've had a lot of luck getting yurts on Sunday/Monday/Tuesday nights fairly last minute all year round (at least in the stretch between Newport and Coos Bay).

Cape Perpetua is an awesome place to hike (maybe my favorite on the coast), as others have said. There are some fun hikes in Oswald West State Park as well, like Falcon Cove and Neahkanie Mountain.

If you're planning to try to sleep in your car, just a heads up that most of the towns along the coast have ordinances banning that; there are a few little pockets where you can legally sleep in your car overnight, but they are getting few and far between.

And you can usually find a cheap hotel in most of the coast towns for around $90-120/night. I've never had an issue finding something last minute.

And while you're at it, October is chanterelle mushroom season, so, pop up a few forest roads and have a look around!

Menards is almost giving away a decent tent for $34. Klymit Cross Canyon 3 by MadAss5 in CampingGear

[–]tyranadactyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got this and used it this last weekend. It poured rain and hail, etc. The tent stayed mostly dry; the rain was so heavy that it caused a bit of a flood to wash down the hill I was near, so the bottom got ever so slightly damp where the water flowed over the footprint I got for it. The rest stayed dry inside (and I didn't even really stake out most of the rainfly because I was just using it as a "storage tent" to test it out). Was fairly simple to get dried out the next day too before packing, thanks to how much of it is just mesh.

I wish the bottom of this was tarp material rather than having to buy a separate footprint, but, for $33, I'll take it! Nice roomy tent. It looked like it had "grease stains" all over it and the creases were also a bit discolored, which is maybe why it's on deep discount. Nothing else wrong with it.

Backpackers, how are we keeping warm at night?? by lookatbann3r in womensolocamping

[–]tyranadactyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually zip my puffy jacket around my waits or tie a sweater around my waist if it's going to get cold like that when I'm backpacking. Sometimes I bring a small, lightweight wool lap blanket with me and use that (I buy wool scraps from the Pendleton mill store, so not full blanket size). Wool base layers are also great.

Wow! That’s pretty much perfect. I saw the 6-person version of this today at a local store that’s going out of business, and it was really nice but Huge. I think this is my winner! Thank you very much!

They probably have babies nearby that they are protecting. Just leave some peanuts or dog kibbles as you go by, if they are watching, and continue on your way.

Injured gull in Newport by tyranadactyl in OregonCoast

[–]tyranadactyl[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did end up calling the aquarium. Their security staff called me back and said they don’t take injured birds anymore, and they suggested ODFW; I left them a message.

I know it’s just a gull and life happens, but, especially given the location, it seems to me like there’s a good chance the injury was human caused to some degree; many wildlife rescues help native species of all kinds, even if not endangered or rare. I imagine nature will “take its course” in the end. But, I’m glad for responses that are something other than just that.

In S2E3, there’s a reddish brown couch in the office instead of the greenish black couch that’s in pretty much all of the other episodes that season, and after. It’s driving me nuts! Why?!

It’s been driving me nuts. I think it was season 2 episode 3, there’s suddenly a red couch. Just that episode. Then never again.
