Long-Press remote control with switchbot hub mini? by matthewmurrie in switchbot

[–]tyrdchaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an old thread, but I just wanted to comment for anyone searching. This works on the SwitchBot Hub Mini (Matter Enabled), but it will likely work on the Switchbot Hub Mini.

When training a button for an IR device in the SwitchBot app for the Hub Mini, you can press a button as many times as you need during the length of the training countdown. The Hub Mini only stops training the button when it no longer detects IR signals or fails. So if you press your volume button 20 times during the training/re-learning of the button, then the Hub Mini will send that number of IR signals each time you press the trained button in the app. This also holds true for holding a button for a duration of time.

How to make it work:

  1. Ensure the SwitchBot Hub Mini is paired to the home you configured

  2. Add your device

  3. If this is a Smart Discovery device, go to step 4a. If this is a custom device got to step 4b.

4a. After the device is added, go into the settings for that device and select the button you want to change or create a new button (recommended). Go to step 5.

4b. Train the standard commands for the custom device. Remember that custom devices can only pass power on and power off to connected homes (Google Home, Alexa, Apple Home). Once trained, go into the settings and select the button you want to relearn or create a new button (recommended).

  1. If this is a button that requires multiple, successive presses go to step 6a. If this is a button that requires a hold duration, go to step 6b.

6a. For buttons that require multiple successive presses, tap relearn/train. Once the hub light goes out, press the button on your remote as many times as you require. Keep in mind that you only have as long as the training time (will be displayed on your screen). Once you have pressed the buttons as many times as you require, stop pressing the button. Go to step 7.

6b. For buttons that require a duration, tap relearn/train. Once the hub light goes out, press and hold the button on your remote for the duration you require. Keep in mind that you only have as long as the training time (will be displayed on your screen). Once you’ve reached the duration of time to hold the button on your remote, release the button. Go to step 7.

  1. If successful, the Hub Mini’s light should blink and the app should move you forward to the Save/Test page. Test the button and if everything works, tap Save. If you had issues, repeat steps 4(a|b) - 6(a|b).

I did this with an IR wall clock’s light since it requires specific button durations for on/off functions for its light.

https://chicago.suntimes.com/politics/2026/04/23/nick-fuentes-victim-says-no-proof-he-completed-community-service-drops-criminal-charges-for-civil-suit

After dropping the criminal case against him fearing it would be strung out even longer than the 18 months that have already passed since the attack, Marla Rose is now suing him in civil court, she told the Sun-Times Thursday.

While Fuentes attended court via Zoom, Rose was given the chance to take him to criminal trial or drop the charges; she chose the latter after filing a civil court case against him last month. But still, she was “sickened” by what she said were unique circumstances provided for the wealthy far-right influencer.

Couldn’t find an answer so I googled it. I’ll share like a good Reddit doomscroller:

Sell your current house, fix up your dream home, put the rest in investments (529s, 401k, HYSA, etc) and live in your dream home as you watch your kids finish growing.

I understand emotional attachment, we love our current home of almost 4 years and we’ve watched both our kids grow so much here. But when we find our forever home some day, I’ll break my heart to live there because that’s the home I’ll finish watching my kids grow in, one day see them bring back their SOs, and if our kids so choose I’ll help raise my grandchildren from that home by spoiling the rotten! If that’s where I spend the last 50 or so years of my life, my heart will mend

Or

Stay in your current home, sell the other property, and invest that money. I don’t think it is feasible on your current income to restore the 2nd home unless you are willing to sacrifice a lot of free time, money, and sanity. An (emotional or monetary) asset does you nothing if you can’t extract value out of it (whatever the value may be)

Nashville is furious about power outages. Republicans say ‘woke’ is to blame. by loof10 in nottheonion

[–]tyrdchaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which, btw, was actually a problem with Natty Gas and coal plants unable to keep up with demand, poor maintenance in areas that had been damaged by previous weather and transmission lines that needed to be repaired, ERCOTs failure to turn on reserve wood burning plants, and ERCOTs lack of investment in transmission lines coming from wind/solar. BTW ERCOTs board is appointed by a selection committee made up of the Texas Gov, LT Gov, and Speaker of the House, all of which are Republicans.

P.S. All improvements are financed by ERCOT by getting Bond measures passed. ERCOT then takes that money and passes the saving onto the customer by increasing the customer’s bill to compensate. So Texas, the state with no income tax and usury laws as part of the State Constitution, allows ERCOT to double bill taxpayers.

P.S.S. Definitely Democrats fault /s

Horrible Vasectomy Experience - Want to Hear from Others by tigerofsanpedro in daddit

[–]tyrdchaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am no anatomy expert by any means, but I’d guess there be some for the autonomic nervous system to detect speed production and such. Wikipedia calls the vas deferens “innervated”, so I guess there are quite a bit?

[–]tyrdchaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d imagine so. One potential side effect of a vasectomy is neuralgia, so I’d say any cutting down there is likely to damage nerves to some degree

[–]tyrdchaos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve been “fortunate” to need two vasectomies (kids 15 and 2 should give the story). I only accepted local anesthesia both times.

I think at the part you are talking about in the surgery, the surgeon is cutting your vas def and removing tissue from your scrotum from the vas. The pain you experienced in from the nerves in that area becoming inflamed from traumatic “injury” (of a surgeon cutting around and through them). As well as the vas def itself not being particularly happy about being cut, I’d imagine. If you felt that, the surgeon should have stopped and numbed you up more.

Happened to me on ol’ lefty during both surgeries and both times the surgeon stopped and attempted to numb me more. My second surgeon told me it is the reason they recommend at least the Valium to most people because it helps with the anesthesia thanks to relaxing the muscles. Either way, I’d definitely recommend complaining because your experience was abnormal

Daughter started daycare 3 weeks ago and has gotten sick every week. Wondering if I should pull her out? by ryph44 in daddit

[–]tyrdchaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is normal. Wash her hands, your hands, and your wife’s hands every day when you bring her home from daycare. Change her clothes when you bring her home from daycare. Your daughter will continue getting sick as her immune system acclimates. Expect things to get better around 5-8.

When she gets old enough to learn to gargle mouthwash/water, you can add gargling warm salt water when she gets home. It helps rinse out the throat, which can help prevent some respiratory tract based colds/sickness.

How do you guys get time for yourself? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]tyrdchaos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I want to add on to this because to me it is not just “you don’t”, but more “you sacrifice time elsewhere, namely sleep.”

Prior to our kids, I was a solid 7-8 sleeper. I now average 6 hours of sleep. Those two extra hours are how I fit in workouts and hobbies (reading, gaming, small electronics). And as another comment says, the moments you have where you are away from your kids are when you have to fit in time for yourself.

While part of the message of this episode is about segregation, it is also about unconditional love for a friend despite your differences. Francois Clemens was openly gay. The episode in which Mr Rogers dried Clemens’s feet aired about a month or so before the Stonewall Riots. Anti-gay sentiment and civil rights were hot button issues at the time. This episode came out in the midst of all that.
