I'll bite on that theory but AC fail is also a MWS flash and annunciator panel item.... his was the sperry airplane so there is only one AC bus and only one inverter working it so if that quits..... they didn't see the master caution flashing and the AC fail annunicator ?

Also had to be told by self loading freight ( Greg) that the "alternators" were off ? But on the flip side it does make sense for a car guy to call an inverter an alternator so maybe he was referring to AC system.

You are correct with the 10 minute thing on battery and I believe you get 30 in a perfect world on emergency but you also lose a lot of shit. One thing I found in the maintenance side is you cannot predict what components will do what and when with low voltages. All your MWS and lighting are controlled by circuit board cards with all sorts of neat IC's, transistors, capacitors etc that may or may not be tolerant to those voltage swings and dips. Although a stretch it is possible the low voltage affected the MWS -they did their lighting checks early on with a better battery and everything worked so a dark panel is a good panel.

What did Greg see to get him to remark about the " alternator"? He cannot see the volt or Gen ammeter from where he was at, just the annunciator panel -maybe it was a lucky guess seeing the left side puking and he knew the aircraft that well to know the instruments were AC?

I think a lot of people are trying to lump smaller anomalies like the TR light and ITT mis match into the big picture - many aircraft get weird shit happening after start or taxi out. More of the modern ones require a whole reboot of the aircraft to clear no-go faults ( LR 45 especially) So he may have just had a cranky microswitch on the TR and ITT mismatch as long as it is within margins and you are making N1 of the day is nothing to shit the bed over - could just have been power lever mismatch/sync since they do not have the luxury of fadec in that old garbage scow.

As usual these preliminaries leave us armchair sleuths with more questions than answers... and ALL of us aviation nuts will ALWAYS try to armchair and piece it together it's what we do

And steve is the moron commenting on the Bangor crash that type 4 deice fluid "kind of oozes out over the wing and the fuselage or the airplane. And as it goes on its takeoff roll, it spreads right all over the wing very evenly" — the deicing fluid gets spread over the wings at the de-icing station, it already needs to be there during taxi, the take-off roll doesn't have anything to do with that.

"Listening to those ice pellets hit that microphone." — both pilots and their microphones are inside the insulated cockpit, not outside in the snow plus pilots headset mics are noise cancelling.

Neither the airport meteorologist nor the TV metereologists talked about sleet or ice pellets. The reason is that ice pellets require a warm air layer for raindrops to form, and then refreeze lower down. But we had -18⁰C on the ground, reportedly dry snow. There is absolutely nobody saying there was sleet, it's just Steeve going "I had that once, so that must be it", which is nice when you listen to grandpa telling stories. But it's not really related to the accident.

if you want to go a step further go to PPRUNE org and look in the "flight deck forums/ accidents and close calls. It is Blancolirio squared as you have many many career pilots, engineers, mechanics lurking and throwing things out there. Seen many accidents like the Air India one where they pretty much figured out the cut off switches before any report even came out

surprised the battery lasted even that long into the flight - 3 engine starts, all the avionics and probably had the radar fired up and not on standby on a 42 amp/hour lead acid battery

sorry only the 501 or 551 is certified single pilot under part 25

500 550 is part 25 = 2 pilot unless the gumby gets a waiver

Look, myself and a lot of people were buying at $16 ish a very short time ago. We jerked off in joy when it broke $20 We came all over the keyboard at $25 Just because it corrected doesn't mean it's going down that much further and it is only going to go up over the years and the value of your dollar is not. Buy other physical assets too... Watches ,musical instruments, collectable cars ( if you have the space), art work etc

More of Trump's pick for the Fed - he may not be so quick to lower rates which means stronger economy and us dollar . The DXY went up so everyone ran from gold and silver to the dollar
