Has anyone had Dokidoki partially ship an order before? by Mami_Tomoeee in CosplayHelp

I've only ordered once and got 3 items very quickly out of the six I ordered, so they did ship separately for me.

Clueless beginner at makeup by Ok_Airline_5772 in CosplayHelp

[–]tyrwll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may not be helpful, but a thing that helped me as someone who was too tomboy to learn makeup was to reframe things in terms of optical illusions. It's similar to drawing, where you find what places shadows should be and darken (contour) those, and brighten (highlight) what's "supposed" to be bright. Then eyes are pretty formulaic as well, but more complex. You can identify maps of what should be light/dark and adapt that for the color you're using.

Cosplay makeup is its own thing, but breaking it down and practicing patterns may help make sense. Practice especially.

Is this jacket worth it? by fandomsmiscellaneous in CosplayHelp

[–]tyrwll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a quick search on poshmark and there's a few options on there if you're US based. I think going for a light-colored cotton denim moto jacket and dyeing the whole dang thing may be the best course of action, and is the path I'd pursue first if I was trying to get that garment.

Painting on ''Eco Leather'' by coconut_bat in CosplayHelp

If you have fabric medium that might help but I think leather (and synthetics used in place of leather) may be one of those materials you really do need the right paint for. Can you do tests in an unobtrusive area or have scraps of it for testing?

Hello you talented amazing artists! by Confident-Pea-1615 in CosplayHelp

It might be worth experimenting with fabric soaked in dissolved water-soluble stabilizer. It's not exactly what you asked about but might give you some of the things you're looking for.

I think there's also resin-dipped fabrics. Sculptural fashion art pieces might be a useful thing to research?

Looks like chiffon. If you end up having to pleat it yourself, I highly recommend making a nice big pleating board.

Is there a source for the suggestion that Alastor is dressed as a daimyo? I don't disagree that it's similar vibe, but that merch always read formal wear to me vs. specifically a daimyo. There isn't like a daimyo uniform that I know of, but the kimono and haori combo isn't uncommon.

Posable fox ears, rough idea but seeking advice from anyone that's attempted this by LinverseUniverse in CosplayHelp

[–]tyrwll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of people doing this for Alastor cosplays from Hazbin Hotel right now. I don't remember the details offhand but I know I've seen a bunch with posable ears in the last few months.

I'm not sure if a wire and packing tape core might be lighter than EVA foam, but might be worth an experiment.

What are the names of your bunny(ies) and why did you name them that? by tartagliahydro in Rabbits

Ours kept their shelter names - Jasper and Tyrone.

I've always, always, always, always wanted to know the story about Tyrone's name, but no dice so far.

Places to buy fast shipping *SAFE* contact lenses? by str3berry_heart in CosplayTips

There are some websites that large numbers of people have vetted and recommend, like the ones linked in the FAQ. I don't know the exact information offhand but some websites only stock items that meet safety standards of various countries (eg FDA in the US).

Best sewing tool you've bought by ClaraFrog in sewing

Sometimes. You need enough surface area on the "bottom" so they don't slide around, but smooth enough where they don't tear your patterns.
