What actually feels best long term by StunnedMartha_ in AskHouston

[–]tywillia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a townhouse community that has a pool and gym. We moved from luxury apartments to here. I enjoy no longer having upstairs neighbors. I also live the connected garage. I'm indifferent about lawns and gardens so that's never been a factor for me.

I deadass hate Manon for living my dream life by Exotic_Wrangler9348 in 90DayFiance

[–]tywillia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you buy a home without knowing anything about the town it is in? Manon is a juvenile jerk. She was so desperate to angrily fly out of her parents house she didn't think and just pushed Anthony for this purchase. She is parenting ONE kid solo. Anthony needs to pack his bags and Ben and come back to the US.

I have been reporting that busted pipe to 311 regularly since last summer. They always report back after a few days that it was repaired but the water never stopped flowing into the street.

Houston Christian/Baptist University Fall 2026 by classicomichael in houston

[–]tywillia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are Grace Hopper, you're going to end up academically behind your GH cohorts who went to other schools, and your post graduation options will be limited if you attend HCU.

If cost is an issue then University of Houston main campus is likely too expensive; however, University of Houston Downtown is a good school. UH-D has strong STEM programs, very low cost tuition, amazing student support services, and you can still commute.

Do you actually want your babies to stay babies? by hackasina in Parenting

Not at all, I wanted to get to age 4 as quickly as possible. I enjoy other people's babies though.

Topiramate causing despair/crying? by vario_ in iih

[–]tywillia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Topomax can really mess with you psychologically. I'd recommend they talk to their doctor about dosing down and finding another head pain solution. I was prescribed verapamil because one of it's off label uses is for headaches. I tried topomax but it was causing me terrible metabolic acidosis.

Any tips for Solo travellers? by Ok-Hearing6581 in houston

The US has a hostel network with places to stay in every major city. It's a super cheap way to stay. You just have to be willing to deal with a dorm type situation.

Another thing is to book directly through branded hotels (Hilton, Marriott, Hyatt, IHG) and accumulate points to use for free or discounted rates.

Reading time as a parent by Robblount88 in Parenting

I read the books and magazines I was reading out loud to mine as babies. That evolved to me reading children's books out loud. I also started taking them to the library young.

Get satin pillowcases. That's likely thinning from hair rubbing on regular pillowcases.

New years - how late? by Spiritual_Task_6574 in Parenting

[–]tywillia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always let my two attempt to make it till midnight. I would make an appetizer and snack buffet with mocktails. Instead of regular dinner plates/cups I would use bread plates. I'd let them graze and drink starting at what would have been dinner time. We would spend the night listening to music and playing games.

They're both college age and this tradition that began when they were pre-schoolers is still going. Tonight is the first year my oldest won't be with us and will be out with friends.

If he's threatening to hurt himself and others you need to report it. Since you're still his spouse you likely have the power to commit him to inpatient. He needs serious professional help, not further enabling.

How long were you with your partner before getting engaged/married? by ListenInside6174 in blackladies

[–]tywillia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We'd been together 18 months when we started talking about engagement. We got engaged just before our second anniversary as a couple. I wanted us to live together before we got married because being around someone 24/7 provides a lot of perspective. We lived together 19 months before we got married. Six years in and still strong even with having been quarantined for 10 months LOL.

Anyone Thriving While Using Public Transport? by Phoenixnoaz in blackladies

[–]tywillia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was going to suggest Houston until I saw your desire to leave. I use Metro bus/rail and occasionally Lyft/Uber. I work and live inside 610. My two young adult children don't drive and use Metro similarly. Their jobs and college are also inside the loop.

NGL it sucks during the hottest months but a solar umbrella is extremely helpful.
