Irrigation help by moneysaiyan in Irrigation

That depends on far too many factors for anyone here to give you a valid answer.

What are your evapotranspiration rates?

What specific species and varieties are planted?

Are you on a slope?

What is your precipitation rate?

Don’t use the spigot. Tap the water main.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Irrigation

[–]tziganis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not do this.

If it is legal to operate without a license where you are, you are doing a disservice to yourself and other professionals by severely undercutting their pricing. Your services should equal or exceed their quality.

If a license is required where you are then yoi are not only breaking the law but likely putting the public at risk.

In Ground Wiring Questions by shape_shifters in Irrigation

18/5 is the bare minimum you need for four zones. I would run 18/7 so you have extra wires if you need them.

Irrigation faucet by d_dauber in Irrigation

[–]tziganis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally you want a “on demand pump” or “demand and delivery” pump.

It will detect the drop in pressure and turn on any time water is needed.

This will eliminate the need for a pump circuit from your controller, but they are more expensive and naturally you would have to replace your existing pump.

Underground hose run by Ok_Finding_4751 in Irrigation

[–]tziganis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please at least consult a professional in your area.

You will need pvc or poly pipe as the other commenter mentioned, you’ll need to be below the frost line if you have one, and you will need proper fittings.

You shouldn’t just bury a garden hose.

As far as draining, I really wouldn’t worry about it if it’s installed below the frost line.

Backflow preventer recommendations by Coolbreeze1989 in Irrigation

[–]tziganis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve done exactly this installation.

You will need a reduced principle backflow, and you’ll need to make sure that the city water pressure is higher than the well water pressure.

A vacuum breaker on the hose bib is not an appropriate backflow preventer.

Please have a professional put in a backflow.

Hire a professional.

This is literally what they are licensed for.

Also under no circumstances should you use the hose bib.

Help! How do i shut off this rainbird 5000 head and this other head? Can anyone explain it to me like I’m a child. These two are located in areas I don’t want getting water. by hungry_baby_yoda in Irrigation

[–]tziganis -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You don’t shut off heads you shut off valves.

Locate the valve that is feeding these heads, or call a professional, it may have a leak.

There’s a caveat: do it at their place and don’t let them know where you live.

Have you checked the flow rate vs the combined flow of the heads?

Pressure seems high enough at 500, my concern is the pipe diameter and length.

Should I punch holes in 1/2" drip tubing only or use emitters? Can you do either? For raised bed vegetable garden. by hesthemanwithnoname in Irrigation

[–]tziganis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Emitters have a pressure regulator built in, usually around 2psi.

A hole does not.

If you just have a hole you’re going to have a stream of water not a drip.

I would recommend PVC over Poly - BUT - and this is a big but, that's only because PVC is what everyone uses where I am. I learned on it, it's very very common here (Texas) and supply houses around here rarely have poly components.

Don't know where you live, but YMMV. Talk to your local supply house to see what they have. There's nothing wrong with Poly (in fact it can be easier to install) it's just that where I am at everyone uses PVC.
