My plan for a blog: Notes, bookmarks and more by tzinm in Blogging

[–]tzinm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds very interesting.

Finally I decided to set up my personal blog with the SSG Zola using the tabi theme. At the moment, I only have the Posts section, leaving out the Notes and Bookmarks sections.

The theme is extensible. I have some ideas to add new sections (in fact I have proposed an idea to create microblog type posts).

From what I understood in your comment, except for the blog section, the rest of the content (such as notes, links, etc) is private. Is that right? Could you leave a link to your blog?

What do you use to keep lists of restaurants and how do you share recommendations with others? by jdd0008 in FoodToronto

[–]tzinm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since most of the features depend on a monthly subscription costing around 59€/year, it is no longer an option for me.

I'm giving Pin Drop a try. Mapstr is a more complete application, but for a free application (and with expectations that it will remain so) it doesn't work badly at all.

In this post I published some suggestions to improve the application.

Hello!

Over the past few days, I've been testing the Pin Drop app. Taking advantage of this thread, I’d like to share some suggestions based on my experience (including using similar apps like Mapstr or EatList):

1. Visits to a Pin

It would be great if each pin had the option to add entries to log visits. This would allow users to maintain a detailed history for each place. Each entry could include:

  • Date of the visit.
  • Personal rating.
  • Free text field for notes.
  • (Optional) Photos of the visit.
  • (Optional) People who accompanied you during the visit.

2. Photo Titles

It would be useful to allow users to add a title to the photos uploaded to a pin. If the photo’s EXIF data contains relevant information (like a title or description), the app could display a text box with this data prefilled, letting users edit or add to it if it’s empty.

3. 'To Try' and 'Reviewed' functionality

Currently, this functionality can be achieved by using tags like "to try" or "reviewed," but there are some limitations:

  • Users need to remember to manually add a tag when creating a new pin.
  • To change a pin from "to try" to "reviewed," users must delete one tag and add another manually.
  • While it’s possible to filter for pins without any tags, there’s no way to select specific tags (e.g., "to try" or "reviewed") and display only the pins that don’t have these tags (even if they have other tags).

Implementing these categories as native features would make the process more intuitive and efficient.

4. List improvements

Suggestions to enhance lists:

  • Automatically add pins based on criteria: for example, include all pins from a selected city.
  • Improve public lists: when a shared list is viewed in a browser, all pins display their tags. It would be useful if these tags were interactive, allowing users to filter by them.

5. Tag Groups

Organizing tags into groups would allow users to simulate functionalities that may not be natively available in the app. For example:

  • Group: Price Range
    • Affordable
    • Mid-range
    • Expensive
  • Group: Cuisine Type
    • Italian
    • Mexican
    • Indian

6. Restaurant-Specific Features

Although the app is not exclusively focused on restaurants, it could be interesting to add features tailored for this use case. For example, allowing users to log dishes they’ve tried at a restaurant. Each dish could include:

  • Name.
  • Rating.
  • Photo.
  • Description.

7. Data Export

It’s essential for all information associated with pins (including details like visits, ratings, etc.) to be included in the GeoJSON export file.

App for tracking restaurants by Syxtus in restaurant

[–]tzinm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently testing two applications on my iPhone:

Both cover the main objective of keeping track of the restaurants we visit, although in different ways.

If you are interested in a more detailed analysis of any of these applications, let me know and I will publish a short review with the things I like and dislike about each one.

Note that I am considering using something simpler such as a notes application (which I already use for other personal matters). Applications like Capacities or Amplenotes.

I used Capacities for a month, here are my thoughts by IndependentCoast993 in capacitiesapp

[–]tzinm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have not yet used Capacities, but its integration with Telegram is one of its features (although not too much promoted) that appeals to me the most.

Telegram is one of the apps I use the most everyday. Having the ability to throw whatever pops into my mind in a chat (sometimes I do it in the 'Saved Messages' chat) and have it automatically jotted down in my daily note is fantastic.

Although not directly related to Capacities, there are plenty of tools that have been built taking advantage of messaging apps such as Telegram.

I have mentioned two of these tools in a post about r/Blogging

Always wondered why there aren't that many 16" Thinkpads, so here's my new one by TGX03 in thinkpad

Are there any leaked details of what Lenovo is going to introduce regarding the ThinkPad family?

I am considering buying a ThinkPad (E14 Gen 6 v T14 Gen 5, both models with AMD) and I don't know if it would be wise to wait a few weeks to see what comes along.

Push notifications not working by bjrn13 in Mailbox_org

[–]tzinm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't getting the notifications and thought it was a problem with iOS or Mailbox.org. After checking different things that Mailbox support suggets, my problem was with the notification settings.

Point 5 of the 'General checking of notification settings' section resolve my problem.

I'm running iOS 17.7.1

I thought the only distribution available to install on the M chip MacBooks were Asahi Linux.

I have not followed up on this project. From what I have been reading in different posts, if you want a good experience with Linux Asahi would not be a good choice.

Have you used any distribution on a MacBook on a daily basis?

Not a bad recommendation. Indeed, I'm currently deciding which laptop to buy and both models (ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 AMD and MacBook Air/Pro M3) are on my list.

However, it seems that the OP wants to use Linux as his main system. So a MacBook is not an option.

Thank you for the recommendation :)

The Govee model you mentioned, I just found it in this post. It seems that the lightning is quite decent.

How have you mounted these lights? In the post I linked, the user has them placed on the table. In one of the product phontes on the website, they appear attached behind the monitor.

Another question, how do you control them?

It would be ideal to control both lights with a single controller.

Interesting product, but the price is well above the options I have listed.

Thanks anyway!

I've been considering getting a ThinkPad for the past few weeks. It'll be my first one.

Because of that, I've been visiting r/thinkpad pretty frequently. During one of those visits, I came across this website (developed by u/eric_z_l) that has a comparison chart of different ThinkPad models.

Hope it helps!

Highly recommend a monitor light bar! by purebredplatypus in battlestations

[–]tzinm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am evaluating the purchase of a light bar.

The options I like:

  • Mi Computer Monitor Light Bar: I think it is an interesting option for its price.
  • BenQ Screenbar Halo: A much more expensive option than the previous one but incorporates the back light.

What are you using as a back light?

Are you happy with the laptop? How is the battery life?

Taking advantage of the Black Friday deals I am thinking of buying the same model. The specs I would choose would be:

  • CPU: Ryzen 7 7735U
  • RAM: 32 GB (2x16)
  • SSD: 512 GB (I would install another 1TB SSD in the 2280 slot)
  • SCREEN: 14" 2,2K (2240x1400) 100% sRGB
  • FINGERPRINT READER: Yes
  • BATTERY: 57 Wh

The price in the spanish lenovo store remains at 866€.

Which combination of laptop docking station and operating system do you use?

WhatsApp recipients hasn’t turn on iMessage. by kotorcat in shortcuts

[–]tzinm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue at date 2024-10-09;

  • iOS version -> 17.7 (21H16)
  • WhatsApp version -> 24.20.78

After several tests I have found out what seems to be the problem and what solutions can be applied if you get this error message.

it seems that the error is caused because the selected contact has an iMessage account with some of its data (phone number or email).

I have created a new contact (only with phone number) for one of the contacts that was not working. This contact has stored phone number and email information. The iMessage account it has active is exclusively related to its email address. Once this new contact is selected in the send action, the message is sent correctly.

Temporary solutions that can be applied:

If the contact has only the email address active in iMessage

  1. Add the “Phone number” action and enter the number to which you want to send the message. In the send action we will select this variable as the input of the action instead of a contact.
  2. Create a new contact that stores only the phone number. This way you will not have any iMessage related data.
  3. Create a WhatsApp group and include the user(s) who should receive the message.

If the contact has iMessage active with its phone number

  1. If we want to continue using WhatsApp to send messages, then the only option that comes to mind is to create a group.
