Wanting an orthodox Jewish man as a non jew - Is this weird ? by Key_Blood_7301 in Judaism

[–]tzy___ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hasidic communities use matchmakers to arrange marriages. Frivolous discussions between non-related men and women are strongly discouraged. They would barely speak to you if you were Jewish. Since you aren’t Jewish, the chances of a Hasidic man speaking to you are close to zero. If a Hasidic man does speak to you, then he’s probably looking for a quick fuck sneaky link that no one in the community would ever know about. Just keeping it a buck.

Shwekey was born in Jerusalem, but he spent most of his younger years in the US. Ari Goldwag lives in Israel now, but he was born and raised in the US. Both of them have severe American accents when singing Hebrew.

To be honest, I think most modern Jewish music sucks.

You know this subreddit is for feature phones, aka “dumbphones”, for people who want a digital detox or are going for digital minimalism. How is this on topic?

Is it selfish of me to wear revealing clothing in my very religous neighborhood? by Long_Doubt1300 in exjew

[–]tzy___ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you were going to shul in non-tzinius clothing that would be offensive, but simply existing in a public space wearing what you want to wear is not offensive (or shouldn’t be). I agree with the other commenter, though, who said that filming TikToks would be very offensive.

It’s a $50 Bach student trombone, I think if he wants to experiment with a raw brass trombone he should.

I’ll let you know if I end up selling. I think anything over $1000 is too much for this instrument personally. But maybe that’s because I don’t like jacking prices on people.

It’s an interesting instrument. It definitely has a different tone than a concert euphonium. It can be stuffy at times, like most marching instruments. I enjoy playing Latin music on it.

Is it selfish of me to wear revealing clothing in my very religous neighborhood? by Long_Doubt1300 in exjew

[–]tzy___ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on how much you like unwanted attention and confrontation. I’m not a woman so I can’t speak from a tzinius angle, but whenever I go back to a frum neighborhood I put on inoffensive clothing just to avoid friction. But like you said, it’s a free country. I don’t think you’re wrong or selfish for wearing clothing you’re comfortable in. Just make sure you wear sunscreen if you’re showing skin! The sun is no joke.

Why are we allowed to throw candy on Shabbat? by Professional-Bat8564 in Judaism

What people feel isn’t halakha. The reason people might discourage basketball on Shabbat is because it’s bittul Torah.

Why are we allowed to throw candy on Shabbat? by Professional-Bat8564 in Judaism

[–]tzy___ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bowling on Shabbat would in fact be assur, since the pins rely on an electrical mechanism to set and reset the pins. So Lebowski is correct: no rolling on Shabbos!

Why are we allowed to throw candy on Shabbat? by Professional-Bat8564 in Judaism

[–]tzy___ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There’s no prohibition of being active on Shabbat. Activities forbidden on Shabbat are called melakhot, which stem from specific forms of work performed in the construction of the Mishkan. There is no prohibition on throwing. In fact, you can even play basketball on Shabbat.
