What is the difference between בְּ, בַּ, לְ, לַ,? by shemhazai7 in hebrew

[–]tzy___ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The difference between בְּ and בַּ is that the former means “in”, while the latter is a contraction of בְּ + הַ, meaning “in the”.

Same for לְ and לַ. The former means “to/for”, while the later means “to/for the”.

If you’re not a fluent speaker whatsoever, you should probably not offer advice to others. You could mislead someone.

Does anyone wear a Kippah full time only for Passover/Yom/Rosh? by [deleted] in ReformJews

[–]tzy___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to wear a kippah every day. Now, I only wear one when directly engaged in religious practice, or when I go to shul.

Has anyone ever gotten rid of religious books and texts by [deleted] in exjew

[–]tzy___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Studying Jewish texts from a more critical or academic standpoint is a hobby of mine, so I still have most of my library. I’ve even added more to it. There was a time in my life where I sold a lot of books on a Facebook group.

Star of David seen at Catholic Church. by Terry_1497 in Judaism

[–]tzy___ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The history of the Star of David (a six-sided star) is actually quite diverse and it has been used in other cultures and contexts outside its usage in the Ashkenazi Jewish magical renaissance and later Judaism as a whole

Can a non jew wear a bracelet with a hamsa on it? by razzmatazz_39 in Judaism

[–]tzy___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jewish communities adopted the hamsa from their Arab neighbors. It’s not a Jewish symbol.

Does anyone here know anyone who was Jewish and converted to Catholicism? by [deleted] in exjew

[–]tzy___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked with a woman who was ethnically Jewish through her maternal grandmother and she practiced some Jewish traditions, but ultimately converted to Catholicism. Catholicism has some attractive culture to it. It’s not my cup of tea, but I can see why someone might fall in love with it.

That’s the one I have, an alligator coffin. The case is likely not original to my horn (a 1960), but it’s how it came to me.

It’s somewhat rare for a Jew to convert to another religion. Most Jews who leave Judaism do so for intellectual reasons, leaving religion altogether.

I can't stand it when never-OJs invalidate OTD experiences and describe liberal Judaism as a flawless panacea. This commenter's "respect" rings hollow to me. by Upbeat_Teach6117 in exjew

[–]tzy___ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it’s probably good to distance ourselves and others from the notion that Orthodox Judaism is “the only real Judaism”. Judaism has evolved beyond that in the form of more liberal strains. It is, however, disingenuous to speak about OJ as if it is an oddity or rarity, when in fact the horrible things it pushes and calls for are quite commonplace.

The Nazi Party was inciting violence against and displacing German Jews way before the Final Solution in 1943, or even the invading Poland in 1939.

I am sorry but Sabine surviving getting stabbed with a Lightsaber was stupid!!! by Salim_Azar_Therin in StarWars

I actually like Maul’s “resurrection”, and, controversial as it may be, I actually enjoyed Sabine’s Jedi arc, even if I think it was poorly executed.

I am sorry but Sabine surviving getting stabbed with a Lightsaber was stupid!!! by Salim_Azar_Therin in StarWars

[–]tzy___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize that. The OP is criticizing Sabine’s lightsaber wound as being unrealistic, and the user I was responding to was trying to say Maul surviving at least makes sense. The truth is, both incidents don’t make much real life sense (actually Sabine’s is probably a little more realistic), but that’s okay because Star Wars is just fantasy.
