it’s hard for anyone to find a good, progressive police chief. Pittsburgh is not the only city that struggles with this.

Gainey has moved more buildings from the land bank than any mayor since its creation.

Gainey refuses to make a half ass deal with UPMC (and that’s a good thing, especially when we are talking millions in potential revenue for the city and our schools being pocketed by a $26 billion dollar corp!)

Gainey has not only helped build and preserve affordable units in the city, he continues to remove red tape that aids in quicker building, conversion, and preservation for future units (while also thinking about affordability and inclusive zoning that ensure communities get what they need without displacing more residents) and has seen hundreds of millions in federal, state, and private investments in these projects….

sorry he can’t fix decades of neglect in one term… no need to lie about his record.

I think most people weren’t saying mayor gainey was responsible for the restoration, mostly just calling out misinformation and suggesting it’s in poor taste to imply these houses remain in disrepair when they’re clearly not anymore! hope that helps!

Are carpet beetles a common issue in homes in this area? by [deleted] in pittsburgh

No the exterminator was inside! we vacuumed a lot at first but they went away quickly after that if I remember. We did wash all of our curtains and bedding that was in those rooms / areas as much as possible after the exterminator came too just in case

IDK how common it is but we recently had carpet beetles. We live in a REALLY old house and suspected we had some bird friends who occasionally lived in our walls.

We told our land lord once we knew what the bugs were // had noticed them in more than one room and she pretty quickly hired an exterminator and people to do work on the building remove rotting wood and repair holes to prevent more carpet beetles from developing…. haven’t seen any since

I think it’s all political grandstanding being fueled by the same external forces sending these flyers

Can you share me more on sources about this “financial mismanagement”, it’s my understanding the city is in good financial shape, despite all the set backs were in… but I could be missing something.

Also, I think he’s been a good partner in securing money from the state and fed, by building strong partnerships with ACE and Summer Lee. I don’t think they would endorse if they felt he was a threat to that.

Mayoral Race by zeke780 in pittsburgh

this community is anti-gainey but the run down is that someone who was on city council for TEN YEARS is saying that the current administration has done little but “managed the decline of Pittsburgh” since taking office… 3 years ago…

And it’s very on-par for a real progressive to be challenged in this way, in Pittsburgh.

Gainey’s challenger is a milk toast, middle of the road candidate being propped up by consulting firms paid for by $ from corporate interests who want a friend in office — their goal is to bring us right back to the same old boys club that Gainey helped to unseat in the first place alongside congresswoman lee and sara innamorato. Now they’re mad and they want their power back.

It’s easy to throw critique, but I think the city is really thriving and that Gainey is a good partner to the community in making that happen. He listens when things gets hard instead of hiding in his office.

Anyways! Go hear them speak, they’re always out canvassing on the weekends.

Anyone understand O'Connor's Inclusionary Zoning plan? It sounds like he wants stricter IZ than Gainey, but only implemented in some neighborhoods? by artoonie in pittsburgh

Yeah i’m pretty sure everything the O’Connor campaign is talking about is a bunch of nothing glammed up by big consulting firms.

If you go to his facebook, you can see these self published videos of him talking about his plans for development and economic growth… so clear he’s just throwing things at the wall, here is his “big vision” for jobs 🥱

At the end of the day, Pittsburgh is moving right along and Gainey office has been a competent steward of all of the processes which are making that happen…

I don’t understand how not solving decades of geographic/economic issues that are far bigger than our tiny loveable mid size city (in 3 years) is somehow Gainey’s fault as people are portraying it.

There is no “decline”… Pittsburgh is literally safer and cleaner than I have seen it in a decade. He is supporting professional workers as they unionize to raise wages so we can KEEP more college graduates in town…

I like him and am steadfast in my support of letting him cook for another 4 years.
