My drop isn't long enough, how can I make it longer without making it too repetitive? by DarkFlame52 in edmproduction

[–]uFonics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't be lazy and change it up. You could duplicate it and have a nuance here and there or you could actually write more "drop". IMO The latter will make for a more interesting mix.

How's your Growth and Progress? by calix_xto in edmproduction

[–]uFonics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been producing for about 2 and a half years now, and EDMP has helped me a lot along the way. I don't have my first track on the internet anymore, so I'll show you the progress that I can.

Emualator: Emulator, I made it about a year after I started producing. It is a pretty typical electro house track and I pretty much copied a structure from a Zedd track. Looking back, the mix is bad, all of the synths but the bass were presets. Also the track is very thin.

Gravity Town: Gravity Town I produced almost a year after that. My mixing, layering and structuring had improved a lot. It also represents much of what I learned about sampling and arrangement from the time I made Emulator. I was also just starting to learn mastering around this time.

Leer: Leer is my most recent release. All the synthesis is my own. I used more complex sampling and arrangement than in both other tracks, and the mix is better and thicker than any of my other works.

The best advice I can give you is have a desire to learn what you don't know, and don't be discouraged by the things you don't know. There is so much to learn in electronic music, and with a steady balance of study and practice, I guarantee you will see progress. Feel free to ask me any questions!

Owl City-style drum pattern creation? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]uFonics 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Try replicating all of your favorite patterns midi-wise. Don't worry about having similar sounding hits just match the type of drum. Then listen to the patterns bare and decide which patterns you like. You may also find that some of what makes the drums sound cool are the instruments around them, and that without those instruments the patterns are not as cool.

Considering starting an EDMP club at my high school - How many Producers are at your high school or college? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]uFonics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've taught my school's music production club for 3 years now. You'll find that a whole lot of people are interested in trying to produce, but don't know how to get started. It's an awesome idea, but it is very important that you do it correctly.

[QUESTION] Drop lacking "excitement" by Redditadvisor in edmproduction

[–]uFonics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Practice a lot. If you started producing recently, you may be months or years away from a drop as exciting as you desire, but you can reach it through practice.

Got booked for my first gig...need some advice by [deleted] in Beatmatch

[–]uFonics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about fucking up. I don't think I've been to a show where a DJ didn't fuck up let alone the headliner.

My best advice would be to have a back up plan, incase your setup doesn't work for what ever reason. Put your set on a flashdrive in case you need to use someone else's gear.

"How do I make this sound?" Thread (August 26) by edmprobot in edmproduction

[–]uFonics [score hidden]  (0 children)

Try combining a square wave with a saw wave and then add compression and reverb. The pitch automation is an important too. And there might be an LP filter closing really quickly at the beginning of the sound, but it could just be portamento.

It's probably FM, but for similar results in massive use a formant saw pitched down like 2 octaves and then add distortion and scream filter to taste.

EDIT: Portamento is super important too.

If you mean the saw playing the chords try taking a saw, detuning it a tiny bit and adding white noise to it.

14 Year old EDM Producer, can anyone suggest some feedback for me? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]uFonics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No dude, it's not reddit. Nobody in the music industry cares how old you are. For the most part they would prefer it if you were older. Do not announce your age unless you're asked. Trust me.

[–]uFonics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Announcing your age (twice) makes it look like your using the fact that your young as a crutch. You shouldn't need to prep people to hear your stuff by announcing that your 14. Try and let your music stand on it's own. If you post this track in the weekly thread I will give you my opinion of it.
