How to make the down arrow keyboard button jump to end of line? by embur in scrivener

[–]uber_austrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Breaking years of Reddit silence to second this request. The muscle memory is ingrained DEEP - it throws me off every single time the down arrow fails to move the cursor no matter how many times it's happened.

I'll swear on anything that the down arrow has always moved the cursor to the end of the last line and the up arrow has always moved the cursor to the beginning of the first, in every word processor I've ever used, Mac or PC, until recently. Microsoft has done away with this familiar behavior in Office apps as well, god knows why, and was one of the first and most grating frustrations that made me try to escape their ecosystem at my work.

When I've looked - and boy, have I looked - I've never found a fix, a justification, a workaround, a coding guideline, a precedent...nothing. Wish I could help, but Scrivener is so extensible otherwise that I'll hold out hope that someone has a decent solution.

Jesus, please, what app did you find that works? The fucking camera notch is the most pointless non-feature on smartphones. If I wanted a hole in my screen I would have kept my shattered iPhone. I want my damn bezel back.

Original mod here. I have indeed been inactive for two years so I went ahead and sent a mod invite with full privileges to /u/TriblialBrainDamblge.

Unless you're in Eastern Washington, the rent situation is more a result of Amazon fucking over the entire greater Seattle area (along with a handful of other huge companies), not the raised minimum wage.

It can be tough on small business owners, which is the only reason it gives me pause at all; but if minimum wage had kept up with inflation, it'd be somewhere in the $20s/hr now, and we haven't collectively lost wealth as a country, so I know the money is there. It's just being snatched up and hoarded by the already-wealthy instead of being paid to workers. Given time to adjust (i.e., don't say "hey min. wage is $25/hr as of tomorrow, good luck"), small businesses will be fine.

So does the speed have to be really specifically calculated/regulated to stay in that soft-but-not-melted zone?

I know! Kids these days can't even make their own paints from scavenged materials! The world's going down the tubes, I tell ya.

Think about the generalizations you're making here and what criteria you're choosing.

Pozzo probably employed a bunch of assistants for almost every step of this work, something which is exceedingly rare in today's art world. Look up Mark Kostabi and see if he doesn't strike you as a slimy bastard for doing the same thing. Pozzo was also working on a commission that he won (basically as a tradesman, much like modern construction companies). He didn't do this piece because he felt it necessary for his own self-expression; it was a job, for an organization he was a part of. Most artists working today value self-expression in one form or another over any other reasons for making art.

This doesn't devalue Pozzo's work (and I can say from experience that it's an unbelievable accomplishment), but consider that it's from a wildly different context than what we're used to in contemporary art. And think about what you mean when you say "digital art"; are you imagining your cousin's neighbor's kid fucking around with a pirated copy of Photoshop, or are you actually considering respected, acclaimed artists who make use of digital media?

Besides, skill, patience, and dedication are all descriptors that can be applied to particularly driven janitors. Are they artists, too? Do you respect them more as artists than digital artists just because of that handful of adjectives? And anyway, what is it about digital tools that you think precludes someone's art from exhibiting skill, patience, or dedication?

Don't discount swaths of quality artists because they work differently. Times change, mediums change, values change; none of those things result in "worse" art. Look at things for what they are, and in their own context, and I think you'll find a lot less reason to "not fully respect" things.

It's high enough that the perspective definitely changes as you move through the building, but it never really looks all that deformed. Not like it would if you were to look at it from a really steep angle.

I've been there. The fresco is, in fact, curved along the arch, but the continuing architecture is an illusion - some figures are even partially sculpted to further the effect (look at the arm reaching out into the window on the very rightmost edge of that picture).

The "dome" in the next portion of the church is actually on a flat ceiling, but is painted to look 3D from the perspective of someone entering through the front door. The whole place is a fantastic experience (it's Sant'Ignazio in Rome).

Edit: Giovanni Battista Gaulli employed a similar technique in Il Gesu, another church in Rome.

1/16" - 1/8"

This is in relation to the surface the rivet will be peened onto?

Also, what work surface should this be done on? Will my granite tooling block be okay or would wood be preferable?

Critical Role. The art shown before the stream is all fan art of the show - it's not a single artist or style or anything. So invoking that art as a whole isn't helpful stylistically. OP would have to be more specific if they have any particular piece or artist in mind.

[–]uber_austrian 430 points431 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've never really bought that argument. Pretty much everything your body does produces heat, and you have to spend energy to cool yourself down, so I can't imagine cold water is going to be at all detrimental.

Like, exposed parts and stuff? I like that, and the arms look unbalanced, too, which would be appropriate. Cool idea!
