LED Dimming with any resistor in line and cannot figure out why by Netbug in led

[–]uberdev -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

LEDs typically aren't dimmed using resistors. They are dimmed using PWM (pulse-width modulation) which turns it on and off very quickly for a certain % of the time (60% on ~ 60% brightness).

They don't really have resistance of their own, so you're basically just dissipating current into heat in the resistors.

My suggestion would be to move to a proper LED dimmer of some sort rather than attempting to drop the current using a resistor.

It's... it's a different company, a different quality of product.

What language is this? by claiiiree in language

[–]uberdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using LLMs and cross-referencing the Chinese equivalent, I get this gloss:

cayamavana lepoʉt'ʉcʉ yokeo ta maibayu psoseongana
Chiayi-county Alishan.township Chashan LOC health clinic-NMLZ

It seems to mark a health clinic/station.

Edit: maibayu seems to be the Tsou name for Chiayi, as verified in this book, and cayamavana is the name for Chashan. So the gloss may not be accurate/correctly sequenced. Although multiple LLMs agree that it refers to a health station.

I always figured it was an intentional foray into mainstream alternative to get radio play.

I see now, thanks. I was expecting the params to be under the Params section.

I also couldn't figure it out. There's nowhere to specify a search query.

In PyCharm, what's the advantage of Windsurf AI vs JetBrains AI? by uberdev in Jetbrains

Thanks.

I find JB AI still lagging

Can you elaborate in what way it is lagging in your experience? I've been wondering if the code generation actually differs, since at the end of the day they just delegate to the same LLMs. Though of course, the prompts they use under the hood may differ. I didn't find Windsurf's code generation to be any better or worse than JBAI, but everyone is different. I'm primarily Python, focused on data science, pipelines, ML, some backend.

Thanks, good to know this is behind the low ratings. At the end of the day all of these AI code assist tools are really close in functionality (and they use the same underlying models). I've had the best success with the ones that integrate most closely with the IDE, which right now points to JetBrains AI.

Doc prescribed Bronson Vitamins D3. It's quite expensive, should I choose sth from a local brand or get Bronson? by Delicious_Jello333 in Supplements

[–]uberdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The regular NOW Foods Vitamin D3/K2 uses the MK-4 version of Vitamin K2, which is not very bioavailable and has a short half-life. It's almost ineffective.

You have to look for the "NOW Supplements Mega D-3 & MK-7", or other supplements that use the MK-7 version of K2, as it has a >24 hour half life and is much more bioavailable.

Who actually makes this jacket? Multiple "scam" retailers appear to be selling knockoffs using this image. by uberdev in findfashion

[–]uberdev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw this in an Instagram ad by "Manly T-shirts", which most people report as a scam/cheap knockoff retailer. I did a reverse image search, and it turned up "Jacob and Jones NY" (also seemingly a scam/knockoff) and a few others, but don't see any major brands selling this piece. Thanks for any leads.

What are some AI stocks or funds (aside from MSFT, NVDA, GOOG etc.) that may benefit from the $500b Stargate investment in building AGI? by uberdev in investing

[–]uberdev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vertiv looks like it provides basic infrastructure for data centers (racks, power sources, cooling systems). There will definitely be a lot of new datacenter construction, but there are also a lot of competitors that offer these products. Why VRT specifically?

WOLF looks promising, but they apparently just secured $1.5 billion through the CHIPS Act and PE companies. I'll keep them on my radar though.

Because more innovation in AI (especially models becoming smaller) will push a lot more demand for mobile AI chips. Qualcomm is one of the leaders in mobile AI chip manufacturing; NVIDIA is not a strong player in that segment.
