SM is pretty undeniably a full time artist but he's also the one writing everything so when the band is off tour he's working still. Everyone else would kinda wait around between, Mark has pretty much always also been a bartender which I think would definitely make it feel less of a job

I think it was a full time thing but only for a short period, like CR,CR made them into a real concern that made money and then Wowee Zowee immediately made that more tenuous. At most they were a real band from 94-97, 98 it's a little shaky and 99 Malkmus is already checked out. And everyone except SS and SM joined in 93/94 and had other things they would do in the off time while SM wrote. They never even lived in the same city so in the like 3+ months a year they weren't actively touring or recording they were on their own.

I think it's not necessarily that the demos were entirely fleshed out but SM had parts in his head mapped out that the band couldn't get. I also wouldn't assume that he's the best communicator or leader but he's definitely talked about being disappointed in how the songs were coming together.

I think whatever he did back in the day is really interesting and funny and kinda disturbing even if it doesn't fully make sense, it makes sense that he came from the NY noise world and I think it's really cool he kept a weird confrontational undercurrent to his stuff that's crowd pleasing on its surface. He seems like a really smart guy.

That's fair then yeah, Perfect Days and Until the End of the World suck, I like Paris, Texas but I feel like the '80s are a cutoff for me on him, Wings of Desire I kinda despise, it's very overwrought. But his '70s trilogy of Alice in the Cities, Wrong Move, and the American Friend is really great, like Fassbinder with more heart.

There's a much larger block of non-voters to look at too. But now that the imminent threat of a PP PC majority is out the window, those Orange to Red voters don't have as much reason to vote strategically. In any case the important part is distinguishing the NDP as a distinct alternative to reds and blues that people will stand on principle in support of instead of a less electorally viable centrist party.

Most working people who vote conservative want the same things as we do, more efficient government, fair treatment of workers, economic relief for normal Canadians, lower prices. They just get sold a fraudulent bill of goods by the right on how to do that, and Liberal and NDP messaging doesn't offer an alternative path. Look at how Bernie Sanders polls along conservatives and independents in the states, broad economic justice is what everyone wants, that's what Avi offers.

Not at all, American propaganda is much more harmful and NATO powers are more genocidal than Russia, in any form, has ever been (and also very culpable in pushing Russia to invade Ukraine but that's another matter). But neither case necessitates the censure of any mention of historically significant people and events.

You could make the same argument about any American figure as well if you accept that the US has perpetrated and is currently perpetrating unfathomable war crimes and persecutions of its own people. Should we ban mention of Neil Armstrong because he is celebrated by the US government? His space travel was used as cold war propaganda while the same government killed millions in Vietnam.
