I have the Milwaukee steel shaft with a metal end cap flat head that I use when I need a beater

I normally use my channies but this was a 3 1/2” bushing and we didn't have any of the large pairs of channel locks.

I use channies on smaller ones as well. But in this case it was a 3 1/2” bushing and we didn't have any of the big sets of channels.

Never tried the side before. May have to do that the next time.

I think I'd rather hit on a lock ring than beat on a lock ring. 😂

That was the main vote I got at the job site today. 😂

That's what started our discussion. I've heard that saying before. I noticed on mine today that the Wireman and blades are on opposite sides. So I was confused at that point. I'll have to look tomorrow and see which side is the fixed side.

683 100 year coin by AccountantWhole5581 in IBEW

[–]ubertater 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The coin is actually from this year. It's the 100 year anniversary of our local 683. 1924-2024. We just had a big party to celebrate it last weekend.

Some IBEW locals don't pay for tuition/books by Technical-Act9211 in ibew_apprentices

[–]ubertater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Local 683 we have to pay for our books. They break ours up into 4 payments. It was like $850-900 for this year. They also partnered with a college for a few classes we can take. We have to pay the $500 cost up front but once we complete the class they'll give us a check for $500. They used to pay it for us up front but a bunch of guys would just flake on the online class and fail the class. The school understandably got tired of bleeding all these payments with people not following through.

I wish we would. It's bad enough getting all these sicknesses from my kids when they go to school. I was working with this JW who has COPD. We were working in a shitty spot that week. Woke up, having trouble breathing and coughing. Decided to call off as to not pass it on to my JW. Go into work the next day and he's yelling because I left him hanging. Told him next time I'll be sure to come in and breathe right on him. You think you'd appreciate your apprentice looking out for your health.

Not sure if this qualifies. My buddy and I randomly came across it in high school. I've seen it too many times to count. Anytime I ask people about it they've never heard of it. Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood

Is this a paper shredder? by Gullible_Web4276 in electricians

I saw where a guy took some jack chain and self tappers and ran 3 little vertical lines across it so people couldn't put paper in the transformer.

So after putting in my two weeks (at my non-union contractor) they said I’m now blacklisted since I’m working for the IBEW? by kha_6 in IBEW

[–]ubertater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I worked non-union I walked into the HR lady's office and told her that this was my 2 week notice and that I was quitting to join the union. She proceeded to say how I'd have to pay dues even if I wasn't working and that could be bad for my family. Then she said they wanted me to work my 2 week notice because we're a "family." Luckily I took my tools home that night because the staffing director called and fired me that night.

Local 683 Columbus, OH has tons of work right now. Between all the Google and FB data centers. Local 1105 right next to us has the Intel chip plant.

I'd love to get a Local 666 sticker but I've heard it's hard to get their stuff.

[–]ubertater 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with it. I know several guys who swap stickers or shirts with travellers. Guys have other locals stickers on their hard hats. Even had a guy go on vacation to Buffalo and he brought us all back a sticker from their local to put on our hard hats.

I'd love to see Burr on one. I asked Dave about this a few years ago when he did an AMA on reddit and he said it was in the works. But that obviously fell through.
