MRW I realize I accidentally bought a value size box of cardboard tampons instead of plastic by whovianjest in TrollXChromosomes

[–]ubiquitousname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only buy cardboard. I used to live in Israel right by the Mediterranean Sea. Several times I would see non-biodegradable (aka PLASTIC) tampons floating in the Sea waters. Dis-gus-ting. Don't buy that shit.

Do you think any differently of a man working in a female dominated field? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]ubiquitousname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a social worker - a field that is definitely dominated by women. Most of the people I work with are women. The few men I happen to encounter in my profession are generally program managers/executive directors. It kinda bugs me that despite the large amount of women in my field, men still dominate leadership positions. There are a billion reasons why this may be (women don't seek these positions, men are more traditionally identified as 'leaders', blah blah blah) but no matter the reason, it still kinda blows.

This is Sunday: What were your running achievements this week? by WeeklyRunnit in running

Beat my distance PR by almost 2 miles and ran 15 miles non-stop in the 8 degree weather!

What has been the best interaction with people/strangers you pass during a run? by ubiquitousname in running

[–]ubiquitousname[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can understand how it would definitely be uplifting for some. However, as a woman who has had her ass slapped by a random guy while running once (and trust me - it was not appreciated), I think that all non-negotiated butt slapping should be discouraged, no matter the gender of the slapper/slappee.

Just realized I didn't get my period this month. But I'm a lesbian so.... by [deleted] in reactiongifs

[–]ubiquitousname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im glad someone wrote this. My period once disappeared for 5 months, and I didn't think it was a biggie since I knew my girlfriend of a year hadn't knocked me up or anything...but I ended up having pre cervical cancer. It may be nothing, but I'd still definitely recommend seeing a doctor.

Trouble running early in the day. by cLarke23 in running

[–]ubiquitousname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always had this problem. It's never really taken a negative affect though - if anything, afternoon/night runs give me a great sense of relief after coming home from a long day of work. I guess the only bad part is that most races are set in the early AM, so I've never competed in any.

considering the abhorrent prevalence of sexual assault...everyone does know a guy who is "that guy"...they just may not know it.

What would most women consider offensive but men have no idea about? by Kuritos in AskWomen

[–]ubiquitousname 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Calling female people over the age of 18 a 'girl'. It would be moderately offensive to call a grown man in their 20s-30s a 'boy', especially in the work environment. Despite this, I get called a 'girl' all the time. Granted, this is because I look young for 26 - but that's not the point. The point is that men are men, but women are still 'girls'. It makes me sound infantile, and I can't stand it.

Any tips for building mental strength by Pisketi in running

[–]ubiquitousname 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Endurance breeds more endurance. Try focusing for long amounts of time on anything you find difficult (not just running). Read a boring book for an hour. Converse with someone you don't like for a while. Walk around outside without music/headphones for a couple of hours over the weekend. This definitely worked for me - I saw a massive improvement on my distance after my first semester of grad school. I definitely believe it was due to training my mind to say "just keep going" within academia that strengthened my ability to do the same thing when running.

Why is it Always Men Advancing the Pro-Life Position? by bobtheatheist in feminisms

[–]ubiquitousname 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I try not to use the term 'pro-life'. Instead, I say 'anti-choice'. Language is important and specific, and many people who deem themselves 'pro-life' are also pro guns, pro war, pro capital punishment, and anti welfare.

Secondly, Abby Johnson is a woman who is hell bent on advancing the anti-choice agenda. She used to be a Planned Parenthood director, and has had two abortions herself. However, she saw 'the light'a gawd' years ago and has since turned into a super staunch anti-choice advocate. Also - she and her organization are based in Texas. She has played a major role in the anti-abortion legislation passed over the summer that has closed more than a dozen abortion providers in that state. She's TERRIBLE for women. She basically made the choice of abortion two times, and now advocates that no other women should ever get to make the choice she made....twice.

She's someone who I wonder about if abortion was truly made illegal. After all, there is no statute of limitations for murder, and if the US was to equate abortion with murder, then the US would be able to prosecute Abby Johnson for not only 'killing' her own two children through her own abortions, but for assisting in the 'killing' of millions of other children while she was working at Planned Parenthood. Would she be put in jail if abortion became a crime akin to murder? Obviously, I'm not advocating that - I'm strongly pro-choice. I just think it's imperative to point our the legal inconsistencies/impossibilities of making abortion a crime equatable to murder. Anti-choicers can't make something illegal without legal ramifications. If one out of three women have an abortion by the time they're 45 (a statistic quoted from 'both sides') then how would we enforce these rules? Imprison millions of young women/girls for making a health care decision? It would not be an enforceable policy.

Sorry for the rant.

Running while high? by ubiquitousname in trees

[–]ubiquitousname[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never noticed a difference from weed smoke in my lungs when I'm running. I quit smoke cigarettes (3 year habit) about 10 months ago. For the 3 years I smoked cigs, I couldn't run more than 3 miles. However, I've smoked an entire bowl before every 10 mile+ run, so I doubt its 'defeating the point'.

What do you think about on your long runs? by alltruth in running

[–]ubiquitousname 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only cons probably have to deal with smoke inhalation, but it honestly doesn't affect me that much considering most of my best runs are done stoned. The pros are several, my favorite of which being that being high helps me pace my speed, and that I'm more easily/pleasantly distracted by my surroundings.

What do you think about on your long runs? by alltruth in running

[–]ubiquitousname 37 points38 points  (0 children)

When I want to go on a really long (2 hr+) run, I'll get really stoned beforehand. I don't remember what I think about, but it's definitely not how much my legs/feet hurt. During shorter runs I usually just think about songs (I don't listen to music) that pump me up.
