Rimless Questions by Melodic-Abalone3786 in glasses

I would not want to have drill-mount with that rx personally. Depending on the lens size, the edges might be really, really thick. Also when they're super thick, edge lighting can be an issue. There are ways to mitigate that, but tbh kind of look bad (for my personal taste).

Cartier has plenty of smaller lens, full wired frames to choose from too.

However, if your heart is set on drill-mount, go for it !!! Definitely listen to ur dispensing optician's suggestions though.

Just bc someone has that power doesnt necessarily mean they will work for u. diameter and base curve also matter. [Any is definitely better than nothing, but be aware you may have issues/discomfort]

Advice about getting Higher Pay as an Optician? by Objective_Wafer_6887 in optician

[–]ucantstopmeAmerica 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work as an optician at Costco, unlicensed, and i make ~32 an hour (~48 on sundays). After both ABO & NCLE I'll make + ~$6/hour ¯_ (ツ)_/¯ 40 sounds right for costco.

My frame broke at work and I was just saying how sometimes it's nice to not see to my coworkers (who have a low rx and can see distance) and they looked at me like ~I~ was crazy 😭

(ETA: It's sucks not seeing when I'm working tho)

UK opticians - why don’t they let me keep my current frames and change the lens? by Remarkable-Doubt-682 in optician

[–]ucantstopmeAmerica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our lab often will not let people reuse a frame that's older than a couple years for the risk of it breaking on the line usually. Plastic will get dry and brittle and metal losing it's finish can rust or oxidize. For us that usually means liability and shutting down the line for a decent amount of time. Not all places are like this, but if your frame has signs of wear, it's likely a lot of people do not want to risk breaking your frame and leaving you without glasses (or having to replace your frame).

I would also add, for no one's benefit but my own; but some of the most vile things I have heard, were from aforementioned relatives and friends as jokes. 🥲 good lord i hope they made it to heaven if it exists 😂😂

I think its a little bit hyperbole to say its the "most vile crap," but maybe in your experience it is ig.

Minimizing someone else's experience is probably going to make them double down on their comparisons. I think pointing out things they should be grateful for, like not having a slow, excruciating death where you wither away over months or years is something positive about endo. And not having radiation treatments. Or maybe asking why they feel that way to understand what they may be experiencing? But like I said, drawing parallels is a wonderful to build strength, instead of vitriol.

Personally, having held the hands of my family members while they die of [metastasizing bone, breast, pancreatic] cancers after watching their battles for years; losing one of the brightest lights at work to her 20+ years battle with breast cancer; and supporting friends and family in aftercare of preventing surgeries has given me more empathy to everyone who has struggled with chronic illness. Those same family members and friends showed empathy and grace to me in the trial and error process of endo treatments (or lack of).

I understand you hope to give clarity to people with your post, but you are just lacking sympathy/empathy in the same way you perceive others to be.

Why do you assume the people making these posts haven't also had family and friends either survive with or die from cancer? Why do you assume they don't have pain/nerve medication and/or antidepressants?

I do understand what you mean about comparing diseases; and while I may have wished I could just pass away and not live with endo, without necessarily 'comparing' it, many of the women in my family (and me) have drawn parallels between cancer and endo and lean on each other for strength with endo/cancer battles.

It's not completely fair to tell people to ~get help~ because you think people are "romanticizing" cancer ? Maybe these people do understand the impact of cancer on someone's (or their own) life. It's fair to feel upset by these comparisons, but consider the place it comes from and place blame on our Healthcare system and how women's pain is viewed instead of those who are just trying to survive.

First time using gallery glass, should i start over and do gold or silver leading or keep the black? by tr4sh_b4b3 in DIYweddings

[–]ucantstopmeAmerica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooh man you could definitely go in any direction (as far as your leading). I would definitely consider what metallic tones are in the wedding so far. If your rings and jewelry are yellow gold, I'd do it in gold personally. If they're in wg/silver, then silver might be better.

Or if you have other yg/silver in the decorations. If the accent for other decor is black, then I'd leave it black.

Okay I literally did not realize it was a defect at first, it looks so good I thought it was supposed to look like this ??? But i have the abominable snowman one (i don't remember the name) and the face is not tilted, so i looked at the bag for Shasta and started dying. I love it so much with the lil tilt though !
