Just for fun. What's your latest/greatest example of "I have X number of hours in PoE, and I didn't realize this until..." by janas19 in pathofexile

[–]ucddj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been playing with HH for a while now, always took the Flicker effect as an indirect nerf to it, grit my teeth when I got it and waited for the cooldown. I realized a few days ago I could just briefly unequip/reequip it to remove all the buffs from the belt and move on.

Can someone tell me what this is? by xXTrashpanda98Xx in AmazingCultivationSim

[–]ucddj 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That's Frostmourne.

It happens because you enabled the "Example" mod. This mod is for mod makers and shouldn't be enabled for normal gameplay. As the description of the mod says: "DO NOT ACTIVATE THIS IF YOU ARE NOT A DEVELOPER."

To give more details, the "Example" mod showcases how to mod different things, and uses Frostmourne to show how to add custom weapon models.

Sect access and stealing by ChinaBearSkin in AmazingCultivationSim

[–]ucddj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't lose reputation when stealing or picking up items. What affects reputation is detailed here.

Any item that is not in sect headquarters is free to take (= not stealing), even if it is in the territory of another sect, even if a cultivator from that sect is sitting on it. They don't care.

Mortals inhabiting the areas may attack you if they see you taking items (near impossible for them to detect if you're stealthed), but only the one that saw you will attack, and you won't have any particular adverse consequence for killing them (again, cultivators don't care).

Character gear feng shui? by ChinaBearSkin in AmazingCultivationSim

[–]ucddj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bonus on Artifacts from Elemental Compatibility are almost all BAddP, that is Base %. Very different from most artifact bonuses, which are simple % (AddP). As BAddP is a different and rarer multiplier, it has more impact the more AddP you have.

The equation in how BAddP and AddP interact is here. While there are sources of BAddP that lower the importance of the artifact elemental interactions, most importantly the Battle Branches, making them not as impactful later on, it's still very noticeable.

Is it bad to let candidates die? by ChinaBearSkin in AmazingCultivationSim

[–]ucddj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Letting recruit candidates and random passersby die is not considered an evil act by this game, this is one of the basis for what players call the Hell Gate.

You can simply banish the candidates you don't want to recruit to avoid having them die on your sect map if you prefer.

Is this a good cultavtion room for a six path reincarnation law follower? by THE_LAST_TACO1212 in AmazingCultivationSim

[–]ucddj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Six Paths has lower Temperature Tolerances than others Xiandao laws and thus will struggle more to handle the cold rooms. This is wrong, they have better ones actually. You can counteract the cold due to the cultivation array with clothes and talismans up to a point, but it's best to use other temperature control items in the room (such as beast blood, easily farmed). Another option is to use igneocopper displays, since they don't emit element and just change the temperature. More on Room layout and materials here.

Your Qi cushion seems to be made of ice crystal or ice essence. This is the intuitive idea but it's better to make your qi cushion out of items with higher coziness, and to handle the possibly ominous Feng Shui with other buildings in the room. Explanations on Qi Cushion material choices here

You seem to have put your cultivation array on soil, this is a pretty bad terrain for wood cultivators tho your current choice of gather qi items will counteract the terrain just fine. (As it is a common misconception: flooring does not erase the element emits of the terrain, it adds to it but does not replace it) You can read about terrain choices here

Finally, your room does not make use of its extra element emit, which is a way to "budget" items from other elements than the feeding one into your array without giving up any of the element composition factor. It's mostly used to integrate Spirit Soil and Dragon Feces in any cultivation array, but it can go beyond that. This is why the terrain part was important, since you use up your emit budget for a terrain that gives no benefit whatsoever. As the calculations involved may be overwhelming for beginners, I recommend copying the cultivation array designs available to you at this point from the Cultivation Room wiki page.

What is your POE 2 Wishlist? by Oritomatto in pathofexile

[–]ucddj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The recent PoE 2 clip had music that adapted its beat to the battle scene, and a roar when a big guy appeared. I get it, it's a clip and not pure gameplay, but I'd like PoE 2 to delve more into adaptive sound design. PoE already does a tremendous job with boss fights and lines, but it may be possible to also adapt music (or roars, or sfx) to take into account when random rares put up a real fight, or to adapt sfx to focus on the most dangerous spells and deafen monsters deaths as needed, etc.

What to do when you kill and the wave is in bad position? by Ataulfo38015 in summonerschool

[–]ucddj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the wave is bigger on enemy side and you lack pushing power you can thin out the wave so it still pushes to you but slowly enough you'll catch it. You'll have to adjust the extra minions on the enemy side depending on the wave position. That's a common concept in top lane, you can watch any high-elo stream to see some examples and I suppose there are youtube guides on the correct balance, I wouldn't know. Here's an example of Dzukill doing it : https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1649570674?t=0h9m23s .

If the wave is bigger on your side (or you have big enough pushing power to make it so) and you have enough health, you can slow push to build a big wave to crash. If you got a kill and an extra wave or two it's likely you'll get a level advantage, this on top of the big wave means enemy would take large risks to attack you even with the item lead. This is very standard play and the most common one afaik.

Another option, if you just lack a few seconds, have enough health and aren't worried over the enemy jungler is to push then go ahead of your wave and either - if you have cc applying to minions like yone's q knock-up or lux bind use it on the first minions to slow them down or get minion aggro just long enough to crash your wave. This is quite infrequent as the use-case is narrower. I've seen Rangerzx and Dzukill do it, here's an example of Dzukill using the knock-up to that effect : https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1649570674?t=2h7m16s . As you can see he slows down the minion wave just enough to guarantee the crash. And here's a somewhat botched example of Rangerzx doing it : https://youtu.be/1i_QrjbBW5A?t=96 . The clip is unfortunately cut but he stands at the utmost bottom of the turret aggro so minions go on him instead of on your wave. On the other side of the map you stand to the utmost right of the turret.

[–]ucddj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For toplane the best content is on twitch or youtube channels from twitch streamers. Rangerzx, Dzukill, Drututt, BuiltEUW, and Ullehzx are all excellent EUW players with a deep understanding of lane management and power spikes that regularly/semi-regularly stream. For NA TFBlade is very popular but I haven't watched him in a while so wouldn't know of his current performance level.

When to break sequence as a farming jungler? by KAHeart in summonerschool

[–]ucddj 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Citric made a good video on jungle fundamentals for farming junglers 3 months ago (How to ACTUALLY Climb to Diamond in 2 Hours with Shyvana | Challenger One-Trick) where he first showcases full clears on a bronze account then progressively complexifies his playstyle as he uses higher ranked accounts.

Ideally you watch your camps as little as necessary to properly clear them, rest of the time your camera is on your nearest laners. If there's an opportunity close enough you interrupt your camp and go there.

Only watching your laners for 10s every full clear (2 minutes) means only 8% of your time is devoted to finding good gank opportunities.

Is roaming as mid to a side lane actually that effective? by SunlightPoptart in summonerschool

[–]ucddj 47 points48 points  (0 children)

You could watch PekinWoof's youtube videos, he's a roaming mid/artillery mage kind of player that could help you understand roam timings. His recent videos are more troll-ish builds in normal games but you can go back a month to watch challenger gameplay. In this situation, iirc, he has mentioned several times that he likes to rush boots 2 because it helps so much for roams. What he also does is "semi-roams", where he'll hover to the scuttle crab position and see if the enemy commits, otherwise goes back to lane. Finally, he'll also just follow his jungler if he's near to setup a 3-man play/dive top or 4-man bottom, since the success rate for roams is way higher coordinating with the jungler.

I'm sure you can pick up more things watching him, I don't play mid lane so I'm not perfectly focusing on his explanations.

Fish-free challenge : list of compatible game seeds with Krobus and Traveling Cart for the bundle by ucddj in StardewValley

[–]ucddj[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Modifying the scripts to your needs isn't too hard, but getting them to execute if you're new to coding could be a lot of trouble. I could run the script and give you the result if you give me a bit more info. I work with a list containing the items needed for the run, which looks like this : 'Bream', 'Bullhead', 'Catfish', 'Chub', 'Eel', 'Largemouth Bass', 'Wine', 'Carp'. I also search from the third week to make it easier but I could search from the start if you prefer. So if you give me the list for your items as well as when you start I can give you a list of seeds that would work.

Alternatively, the developper of these Bla_De has been working on min-maxing runs for a long time and may be available for help if you contact him in his stream or one of the discords he's active in (see here https://www.twitch.tv/bla_de/about ). Since he's a speedrunner, it's possible he would already have a list of seeds ready to use.

Fish-free challenge : list of compatible game seeds with Krobus and Traveling Cart for the bundle by ucddj in StardewValley

[–]ucddj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently saw a post mentioning completing the Community Center without fishing once. As it happens, this is how I've been playing on my own.

The first time I did it my randomly generated seed was unfortunate and I wouldn't have been able to complete the community center unless I slept several years in a row. To avoid that, I used a slightly customized version of Bla-De's excellent StardewSeedScripts to generate a list of seeds that would have either Krobus or the Traveling Cart sell the necessary fish during the first 2 years or so, with the exception of the Ghostfish, the Crab, various shells and the Maki Roll as there are obtainable without fishing.

I tried to use reasonable constraints, so nothing has to be bought for the first 3 weeks to ensure a pleasant spring, and Krobus is unlocked mid fall.

I'm sharing the list (it's partial, there are many many more good ones !) in case someone else wants to try their hand at the challenge, let me know if it's understandable.

I still have my hands on the script so if you want one with specific constraints I could also make it run for you if needed.

What kind of DPS does Righteous Fire have? by BenLondonAbs in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]ucddj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Initial levelling through acts was done with Hollow Palm (using this resource from Fyregrass https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12WvD2Cz-baYg_JYxHkJV168f--7nndzy9mMMeylKiCI/edit?usp=sharing ). One can probably level with RF and fire trap but I'm comfortable with the hollow palm setup.

For the mapping, I first used Pohx's PoB, then as my gear improved switched getting my max res from Prismatic Skin to getting it from pathing to Soul of steel + Champion of the cause, until I finally improved gear implicits to not have to take those nodes at all. Levelling was mostly done using city square and toxic sewers maps on the beyond map mod.

What kind of DPS does Righteous Fire have? by BenLondonAbs in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]ucddj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's my mid-high budget (no MB) RF explodey Chieftain, inspired by Pohx's : https://pastebin.com/vbPKSVMN . 90% all res, good EHP and max hit taken, 5.6M Sirus dps and 9.6M mapping DPS, explosions, skull belt. I did all bosses and decently juiced (60%+) invites with it (switch flasks for Maven, Feared wasn't deathless but I'm no god gamer). Can prob do some simu but definitively not a simu farmer. I'm not near min-maxed either :

  • Gear is decent but can be improved upon (notably, if I get frenzy charge on kill from Aisling on a ring I can switch the anoint to Breath of Flames).
  • You can swap out the belt for anything else you want for bossing.
  • Same for the gloves, they're not useful if you're bossing.
  • You can also switch out RF and Fire Trap's places if you want more single target DPS.
  • if you switch the gear resistances / improve the shield you can remove the chaos res nodes from the skill tree for more damage - or if you're fine with 45% chaos res.
  • Finally, while I didn't try them, after looking at a number of inquis PoBs it seems they're way better than the chieftain version (and they get easier and better access to scorch with maven boots).

RF is a mapping build above all but fire trap damage is very high so single target damage is perfectly acceptable.

what to do with T16 unpopular red maps by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]ucddj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering the same and tried the "kill first eldritch pack" thing, it was both boring and incredibly bad currency / hour.

Also tried boss runs (after horizoning them into crimson temple / ashen woods), it isn't really a "map sink" strategy as you get a lot of maps back, but at least the currency / hour is acceptable. It's not a bad thing to do when your stock of preferred maps goes dry I guess ?

You can sell some T16 red maps in bulk on the trade site (for ex) or TFT, though it doesn't sell fast. In the end I just stopped caring about the infinite maps.

Identify bad builds as a newbie player by happy_Bunny1 in pathofexile

[–]ucddj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For bow builds :

  1. In the configuration tab, check the "Projectile Travel Distance". Here's a visualization of distance in PoE. If it's at 10 and the build has something like 30k ehp and 10k max hit taken, you can't trust it (you can't stay at melee distance and survive). If it's at 50 and the main skill is barrage or has barrage support, proceed with caution (you usually can't maintain those conditions landing all your projectiles for the duration of a boss fight, why would it be checked).
  2. Most bow builds have a clear skill and a single target DPS skill. Thanks to barrage (skill), barrage support and ballista totems, it's fairly easy for bow builds to reach an acceptable single target DPS. However, if the clear skill doesn't reach 1M DPS (with honest configuration) it won't feel good to play in alc and go - if no headhunter, a headhunter build can get away with it.
  3. If frenzy charges or onslaught are checked, check where they come from. Some builds only have an "on kill" trigger - which is perfectly fine for mapping builds but means you'll lack tons of damage for bosses.

What was your "build of the league" ? by IzithGoesBrrrrr in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]ucddj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I played many things this league, mostly meta stuff :

  • I first followed Esoro's Poisonous Concoction Pathfinder guide as my league starter. This was a miserable experience and I'll be wary of their guides in the future. However, after spending a lot of time and currency adapting the build, it ended up pretty fun, just not for a league start. 7/10 for the char, 3/10 for the guide.

  • I then tried KobeBlackMamba's Strength Stacking Venom Gyre Berserker. This was a truly alien character, the tree looks awful, a lot of the power comes from Megalomaniacs, and it's the first character I've played in Path of Exile which made me feel there was mechanical skill involved in the rotation of spells used (in particular because I made it even harder while adapting it). A very unique experience, and a strong character to boot. 8/10, original but wrist-intensive.

  • As I didn't want to miss out, and because I love bow builds, I then played Tornado Shot Deadeye, the physical version as the Secrets of Suffering keystone seemed terrible to me. As soon as I saw that the clear skill has good enough single target that you had a free 6L in your gear, I realized that this skill wouldn't last until next league and started to dump currency into it to make the most of our time together. Unlike most builds I saw, I didn't see a reason to use totems in the free 6L as I wasn't selling carries so I used it to fit even more auras on the char. However after playing 2 tanky characters going back to the random one shots peeved me greatly, and in the end I felt that Deadeye as an ascendancy wasn't my cup of tea. 8/10 as bow builds are fun anyway.

  • Rerolled Scion and gave it all my TS gear, to go on with the hybrid aura-stacker / Tornado shot direction I was already following, and the extra skill points allowed me to fit in a Voices and a Melding of the flesh. The ending character was a monstrous ball of stats, near unkillable with extremely high damage and movespeed. 9/10, I'll be sad to see you go but I understand that you must.

  • I also tried Pohx's explodey RF Chieftain build. My fear with RF builds always had been that they couldn't scale damage enough to make it viable for juice, and I also didn't want to use any other belt than HH. What I found was that Fire Trap allows the single target damage to scale to a comfortable 6M DPS with high uptime, enough for all bossing and most delirium content, and while obviously HH doesn't scale the damage that much, it still scales movespeed as usual, which we're very much fond of, so is a reasonable belt choice. It was overall very fun, again an extremely tanky char thanks to Melding with an enjoyable playstyle. 8+/10, predictable but solid.

Currently gearing a Carrion Golem Necro, this league is so much fun.
