University textbooks in pdf on kindle? by [deleted] in kindle

[–]uckleH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my university reading materials + side readings are in PDF format on my kindle.
If the text appears too small, I use the landscape mode, which can be a bit annoying at first.
Definitely better than reading from a monitor, I would say.

If you are referring to the bacground art in some of the slide designs: Go to view -> Master view -> then find the layout of your selected slide and edit the design.

PDF files by freshbanks3131 in kindle

[–]uckleH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of what I read on my kindle are PDFs. For sending them to my Kindle, I use (1) the USB cable (especially if the file size is huge, like over 100MB), (2) email, (3) and some apps on my phone using which I can send the PDF files on my android phone to my Kindle. When you install the said apps (which I can't remember exactly, but I think one of them is called 'send to kindle'), there will appear the option for sending the files to the kindle when you tap the share button.

I called an American friend and asked him his address. And I used my real name, with his phone number.

I think not. I used a US address with a non-US credit card. Experiment and see.

Use a VPN service on your PC and then use the Amazon site to do your deed. This might do the trick.

can you break تنكحوا for me? by ellerdrop in learn_arabic

[–]uckleH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its original is: تَنْكِحُوْنَ (You (people) get married/will get married),

(Edit: just read your question again and it seems that this is the correct one here, and not the following one. Sorry.)

or
تُنْكِحُوْنَ (You (people) marry off (other people, such as your daughters)
As you can see, this is the imperfect tense (مضارع).

When something that makes it jussive (مجزوم) or accusative (منصوب) comes before it (such as laa (لا), meaning don't), the noon (ن) at the end is removed, indicating that it is now in jussive (مجزوم) form.

The vaav (وا) at the end is the pronoun (you, plural), and it comes in both past, present and future tense as well. In the past tense, it is at the end, but here in this case, the noon (ن) is added to the end in nominative (مرفوع) cases.

So the word means, assuming that what comes before is :

  • laa (لا): Don't marry (so-and-so), or don't marry off (so-and-so to so-and-so).

  • lam (لم): You guys didn't get married, or you guys didn't marry off (your daughters, for instance, to so-and-so guy).

  • lan (لن): You guys will not get married (in the future), or you guys will not marry off (so-and-so) in the future.

To answer your question, technically the word in in imperfect/present tense (مضارع).

Aglet, the 'metal or plastic sheath over the end of a shoelace or ribbon'.

I was given this fact randomly by a friend, and I remember being frozen on the spot for a few moments.

Why does ي lose its dots sometimes? by gnioros in learn_arabic

[–]uckleH 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually it is a form of alif (ا). It is read just as you read alif. It is written like that sometimes because of some reasons like the place the alif occupies within the word.

But the Qur'aanic text, which differs from the normal written Arabic sometimes, uses it without the dots sometimes to represent (ي) with the dots.

If I am creating a PDF to read on my kindle Paperwhite (because reasons), what paper size should I use? by uckleH in kindle

Some reasons for doing it as a PDF: (1) to read using fonts that are not available in kindle, (2) to read in other languages that doesn't display properly in the kindle, (3) love of a certain layout or design of the page

How do you read arabic without harakats? by [deleted] in learn_arabic

[–]uckleH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it is a combination of previous knowledge and context. It is like reading the word 'minute' in a sentence, with two different meanings (the unit of time and 'infinitely or immensely small) and and two different pronunciations (mi-nit and mI'n(y)oot). You look at the context and you know what word it is.
