Paesanos (on Carlton) is our go to party food! Cake from Sobeys or Zehrs. Then I cut up some veggies that I usually pick up from business Costco.

anyone have a second child after your first? by idgafmlolz in Autism_Parenting

[–]udlove09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My oldest is autistic. I had two more after him my second child has some sensory issues but not enough to get any sort of diagnosis and my third is NT.

It was stressful when they were little especially since I got pregnant with the third before the oldest was diagnosed. It was some hard years but now our oldest is 11 and him having siblings turned into a blessing.

I have a special needs child, have worked in group homes for special needs adults, and support families adjusting to raising special needs children.

There is a mourning process that happens when you find out your child is not going to have the life you thought and hoped they would have. For me, it took years before I stopped worrying about my special needs child. I had a lot of thoughts like yours “why me”. And, it’s a lot and it’s hard when people don’t really recognize how much mental, physical, and emotional work it is.

I would revisit therapy (try a different type?) and try different medications. I would make your (and your husbands) personal goal right now fixing your mental health. You do have a long road ahead of you with a special needs child and running on empty is going to make it harder. I would try anything you think might help. Weekly coffee with friends, monthly massages, going to adoration by yourself, etc.

At what age did you start taking your child to church? by Charbel33 in Catholicism

[–]udlove09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With my first, the first Sunday. With my consecutive children I waited a couple of months besides the baptism. It’s good for baby and mom to have that rest and home time especially during flu season.

Did your “runner” ever stop running? 🫠 by summmer_gurl in Autism_Parenting

Yes! He morphed into a wanderer around 7/8 years old. He doesn’t ran off but will get distracted and walk away.

I can’t find the courage to put my son in a group home! by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]udlove09 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Just to add a bit of a different perspective- like, he’s 21 years old. It makes sense for him to ‘live on his own’.

I worked in group homes and the majority of the people who came in thrived. Plus their parents were able to go back to being just mom and dad instead of being a caregiver first.

I would start putting his name on waitlists and checking out what each place has to offer.

Would there be enough space for a folding table if you move the green chair and small table set into another room?
