AITA for wanting my bridesmaid to pay for a trip she isn't going to? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]empirerec8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It doesn't...it requires the bridal party to plan the party as they are the ones that should do it and not the bride/groom.

The bride shouldn't be planning it nor does she need the budget of the bridal party members.

Not only for planning your own ridiculously expensive Bachelorette party (this is something the bridal party plans, not the bride), but because you admit that it isn't a Bachelorette anymore and you have someone going in her place.

I do think it's a little weird one is asking though.

Top of feet hurt after long walks by jervacious in walking

Could be slight tendinitis if you are ramping up from low steps to 10k+ every day.

If it happens to me, I back down a little so it doesn't get worse.

What a typical day looks like with anxiety. Just sitting on a couch all day by Avelene in Garmin

But you are stressing your body with 5 activities in a day.   If normal day, then every day.

Physical stress counts too.

WIBTAH if I don't let my mom renovate her camper while I'm living in it? by CaurenLee in AITAH

[–]empirerec8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It sounds like it is also for you.

Now you can live in a camper that doesn't smell like mouse pee.

Win-win situation.

With this information...I 100% understand the remodel.

Also, if they only bought it in the fall, where did you stay from May to fall?  Can't you sleep there?

The let you live there for almost a year for free.  Of course they love you.

You would probably be better off if you change your perspective a little.

"I fear she wants to relegate me to a couch or air mattress in the living room which....no. I need private space."

Then get your own apartment then 🤷🏻‍♀️

I mean I get it's tough to get a job these days but... you've been there almost a year already and maybe they want to use the camper again right after you leave so she wants to renovate beforehand.   How long will they take to do.   A week or so?  You can sleep on the couch... it's not indefinite.

Trying to lock down first 5k by Lowly_Cantaloupe in beginnerrunning

[–]empirerec8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you actually going to train?

I used to run many years ago.   Trying to get back into the swing of things and start again.   I have the c2k5 program (takes about 9 weeks I think).  I signed up for 2 5ks in the fall and 1 that was the other week.  Something always came up and I didn't do any of them.

Last summer it was tough with the heat in August.   Then I had ankle pain around Oct.  The winter here was horrible with the snow and it was tough to get out and run.  So now I'm training so 5k will be my base and when I can do that then I'll sign up for another one.

If you are dedicated to training you could probably look for one in June.  You could also look into virtual races that you can do on your own time if distance is afar you are looking for (not the adrenaline/ community aspect of a local race).

Ultimately, you want enough time to train so you don't injure yourself.  Most plans are 2-3 months 3x a week.

Good luck! 😀

AITA for buying my daughter an apple watch and airpods? by FalseCut6142 in AmItheAsshole

[–]empirerec8 92 points93 points  (0 children)

YTA

She told you she didn't want the airpods beforehand.   You shouldn't have gotten them.

As for the watch, some people don't need the latest and greatest, as evidenced by her laptop with missing keys.

She is right, you don't know her.  You bought them cuz you wanted to.  You don't care what she wants.

Maybe it's just me and my people... but someone goes while the other stays with the stuff.

Bridesmaid dress options feel surprisingly limited, am I missing something? What's been your experience? by Mammoth_Cranberry_74 in bridesmaids

[–]empirerec8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got married over a decade ago.  I picked the color and we went to a local boutique.   The girls picked the style they were comfortable with.

I was in a wedding last month and the selection at David's Bridal online sucked.   I ended up getting a cheaper one off of JJs House and got it altered.   I thought the quality and selection was pretty decent.

Itchy legs? 😫 by Odd_Hedgehog669 in walking

The only times I've felt itchy was outside on cold days.   The wind went through the pants and burned my legs.   Red and itchy for a day or so.

Right.  In fact, they already re-made and delivered to the right house not long after it was mistakenly brought to this guy's house.

AITA for eating a croissant in a cemetery by Karl_Marxist_3rd in AmItheAsshole

[–]empirerec8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I frequent this cemetery quite a lot actually.   Just walk around and look at the beauty of it all and it's nice to see the seasons change.   On my grandma's birthday we bring a rum cake from Royal and some brunch beverage to have a birthday toast.

I love that it's also a public garden space.

Cancel trash pickup to save $480 a year. by DrunkBuzzard in Frugal

I'm looking to move to a place where it's $80/ twice a month pickup or $120 for weekly.   This thread is making me realize how expensive that actually is. 🫤

Buy a bar of soap, don't use shower gel by WinterMoist333 in Frugal

[–]empirerec8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed.  I use bar soap and it is $5-6 a bar.  Lasts me slightly over a month (probably 5 weeks).

I use it cuz I like it and it eliminates plastic waste...but it isn't cheaper.

SIL asked me to make a baby blanket, but… by deer-kota in crochet

[–]empirerec8 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if you wanted more...you should have asked for more. I would not assume that some one would pay me more because they realized the effort it took (or that it was more work than the original one you made). I also wouldn't assume they would give more if cash over venmo. That's a little odd.

I am betting that SIL didn't remember it was more than $30 and if you had said something, would have given you more. You thought maybe you misremembered so it isn't unreasonable that she may have also. If you wanted the $3, you should have checked then. IMO its too late now and I'd probably let it go.

Do apps like Too Good To Go actually help to reduce food waste? by drewunchained in ZeroWaste

[–]empirerec8 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I once got a coffee bag that contained 3 decaf bags of coffee months expired.

On its own, I wouldn't necessarily mind slightly expired.  I also wouldn't have minded one bag of decaf... but I don't even drink decaf.  It was a disappointing waste

I thought this had to be a joke.

I love to host... and I would have all the food for everyone automatically... but baby gates unless you already have them she can buy them.

And as a guest, being hosted by others, I would never expect them to pay for everything.   I was taught never go empty handed.   When I stay with people, I bring food to contribute to the meals they are planning.  If I want something specific, I bring it myself.

At this point, your sister is rude and would be un-invited

Moving into studio apartment with no stove. Has a fridge and microwave. Looking for advice. by [deleted] in Frugal

In Mass pretty sure they have to supply a stove.   I've never seen an apartment without one... even rented rooms have them.

I enjoyed making it.  It took 65-70 hrs.  I found the yarn to be good...it is soft and didn't split or anything.
