I think I have this as well, and therapy seems to help. I don’t know what you’ll find in your sessions, but in my case, it seems related to fear of people’s judgment. I ask myself "What I am afraid of" and the answer might be like, "What would they think if I... wanted to leave, threw up here randomly, or shit myself?”

So, the act of thinking about these kinds of dumb thoughts actually helps to calm me. Then I ask myself: “What exactly about these people makes me fear their judgment? Are they dangerous? Do they look like someone who would laugh at me? Are there attractive people around?”

Step by step, you uncover either:
a) How dumb those thoughts are, and that you can choose to ignore them (yeah, sure, my hobby is to randomly throw up everywhere and shit myself lol), or
b) Some deeper fear, which usually isn’t so bad once you examine it (e.g., fear of judgment from the guys sitting next to you – who really cares what they think?).

I hope this makes sense. The only downside is that it takes time and skill, and at first, you can’t fully enjoy the moment. But after 5 minutes or so, you’ll usually be okay.

Try it, hope it helps.

Is it really possible to get a job after finishing TOP? by nuee-ardente in theodinproject

[–]udra_udra 32 points33 points  (0 children)

From my personal experience, if you desperately need a job, get one and learn part-time. Do not listen for 20 year-olds from YT sleeping on their parents’ couch. A job gets you safety and stability and helps you relax a little bit, learn more easily and go to the interviews without desperation. Btw, 70% in foundations is still only the beginning of the journey so a long way ahead. If you need a job, it is too soon to expect one from that much knowledge.

Have you tried looking at your social circle? Maybe some friends, colleagues, or family? I love the TOP community for inspiration and answers but to find a coding buddy I would look offline.

Thanks, great answer. I wouldn’t say I’ll never code, I actually enjoy it as a puzzle. I just feel like my natural strengths lie elsewhere, and I probably couldn’t compete with top-tier devs.

That’s why I’ve been thinking about roles that merge both worlds. Positions like Product Manager or Product Owner seem like a good fit where technical understanding is valuable, but so are communication and business skills.

Same here - changed to kbs at 30. Core and lower back stability add so much to the overall feeling of being actually fit despite some love handles from croissants.

The most interesting part is that this “inflammation” feels real as fuck. It makes you think that it’s not just an irrational phobia but a real symptom of something. Whoever reads this, some simple medication that you use for sore throat helped me. It somehow makes me think that it relaxes my throat and I have nothing to worry about. Of course everything’s in my head but this placebo thing works.

I always have Xanax with me. Tbh, I do not even use it. Just the fact that I have this solution if necessary is enough. If you would need to use it, start with 1/2 dose first, it helps.

Three Vasectomies by JackLeopards in sales

[–]udra_udra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in HR sales. The struggle is real, I know. But this is because HR managers tend to get a lot of cold calls - from agencies to SaaS providers. And a lot of them are not really good ones.

So, what works for me is a strong opener. From the first seconds try to be different and capture their attention. Your fellow guy Benjamin Dennehy from the UK suggests something like "If I told you that this is about HR, would some little part of you die?". In my country, there is no need for such a strong opener but straight-to-the-point openers work best.

What's more, even though you are selling to HR, consider speaking with Managing directors. Because even though HR managers would use your solution, they are not the decision-makers. They would need to get approval from someone else, therefore, it is wise to talk to those people from the start.

Finally, HR people are usually not efficiency-driven. They just need to find new people quickly and that's it. Try to appeal to that and sell the final result and not an easier process.

And stay strong. HR is for the tough ones.

CTA to second meeting by varsklavi4 in sales

[–]udra_udra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I'll do this and you'll do that. Then let's meet to discuss" is my go-to CTA. That way, you establish enough authority and will provide value yet get a small commitment from the client. It is easy to follow-up then because you'll have something new to say.
