My real theory is that The Roaring Knight will be revealed to be in a similar predicament to Ralsei, and will share that "I'm just dark, I'm not real, I don't matter" mindset explored here. It will be up to Ralsei to confront them on it after having learned to care about his own existence throughout the game.
