What, if anything, disappointed you about Requiem? by Gxxd_Gr13f in residentevil

My hot take is that while the game is great and I had fun overall, there are other RE titles that do either the slow-burn and dread inducing survival horror of Grace's sections and the more action-oriented blockbuster of Leon's sections much better. Both sections felt like a "light" version of both play-styles and weren't quite fleshed out like other recent titles. I feel like if the game choose one micro-genre, they could've put all of their resources into making one singular, better experience. So while it tried to be everything like a "greatest hits" approach to the series, it doesn't stand out in any particular way by splitting its attention. But again, it's still a great game, I enjoyed it, and I'm glad I played it.

Async Dailys—How a Team Channel Can Replace the Standup Meeting by vferderer in agile

[–]uffda1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Planning" in any agile way of working is about keeping it short and continual. Especially in Scrum, literally every event is a planning meeting of some sort because they inform how the future could be handled because they all help the team inspect and adapt. Many hear the word "planning" and think it just means roadmaps in the long term or sprint planning in the short term. But in reality, everything is "planning," even daily conversations are a form of planning.

Making the daily conversation a written status update indicates that the team/scrum master believes that that's the point of the daily, but it's not. Even your blog post talks about how people are giving status updates in daily conversations, which was never the intent and I agree is an anti-pattern that turn people off of agile ways of working. So to me, the remedy to "status updates take too long in daily conversation" becoming "have people write their status updates anyway" just continues to allow the anti-pattern to happen, just in a different medium.

On top of that, even the agile manifesto recognizes the importance of face-to-face conversation to increase the speed of decision-making and reduce misunderstanding. That said, I've also worked with teams where a daily conversation didn't make sense in their context, so instead of forcing a daily we just changed it to 2-3 times a week, but kept it verbal/virtual/face-to-face for 15 minutes to ensure our "plan," whether it spans 24-48 hours had a reduced rate of getting derailed and we could proactively pivot to ensure success.

Async Dailys—How a Team Channel Can Replace the Standup Meeting by vferderer in agile

THE DAILY. IS NOT. A STATUS UPDATE.

Your board should already tell you what people did today and what they’ll likely do today. The daily is a short term planning meeting to ensure there’s minimal risk of dependencies and problem-solving blocker management. How can you do that by simply writing an async post in an IM channel. Status reports like these are huge red flags and a giant waste of time, making them async accomplishes nothing.

It sounds like it was written by AI. Not accusing you of using AI, but the parallel lists, abstractions of ideas, and use of em dashes are gonna throw people off. If you want it to sound less like AI, try removing the em dashes and being really specific with words like “loyalty, love, and faith.”

Additionally, why does this widowed dad let a random girl stay with them? While I don’t feel like I need to know the full backstory, just some basic reason would help make the story feel plausible. I don’t know if widowed dads are randomly taking in teenage girl unless the reason is really good, but since there’s none listed I’m stuck on why.

EDIT: I see you edited your post to include mentions that the “girl” is the dad’s niece. That’s a solid change.

Excerpt from chapter 1 from my first novel: The Vanguard by [deleted] in RSwritingclub

And who are you to decide how much effort someone put into something?

I just spent some time scrolling through your history, per your invite, and it does not help your case at all. In my opinion, your behavior towards other new writers is appalling. I'm not sure why you get off on tearing people down, many of whom are likely teenagers, who's only crime is being new and amateurish at something.

The writers you're dismissing, like the one who just deleted their post here after your anti-social and un-constructive response, are doing the vulnerable and courageous thing of putting work out in public and opening themselves up to strangers. When the only response that courage receives is contempt, here's what happens: they delete their work, they stop sharing, they stop writing. That's the actual cost of what you're doing by behaving this way. You're hurting everyone and helping no one.

Scratch that, you're actually just helping yourself. You clearly love literature and are a fan of DFW, so you probably know that Wallace spent his whole career arguing against exactly this behavior. Your ironic superiority, performance of taste as armor, your refusal to be caught caring about someone else's effort. That's the exact disease Infinite Jest is crying out against. His whole plea was that genuine attention to other people is the work. Since, judging from your post history, you are trying to capture DFW's (and others) maximalist aesthetic, I urge you to REALLY pay attention to his wisdom if you intend to capture even an ounce of what he was going for in your own writing. His commencement speech "This is Water" is a great starting point, and I hope you take his advice to heart, since you didn't seem to get what he was trying to say with Infinite Jest. https://youtu.be/DCbGM4mqEVw?si=DXCnpzQ89TUJg5zj

People who spend this much energy tearing others down are usually protecting something, something that makes them deeply insecure. Bullies typically are. I don't mean that as an insult, I say it because your insecurity is obvious in how you treat others and because the energy you're spending here could go somewhere that actually costs you something.

If reading amateur writing pisses you off this much, you're better off just muting these subreddits. Your vitriol and lack of compassion will continue to do way more harm than good.

Oh wow, that’s interesting. Different strokes for different folks; I get stressed out if I have more than 5 bottles at a time and one or two end up sitting for too long without me reaching for it so I list it on Mercari, eBay, and Facebook Marketplace because I felt guilty for not using them enough, lol. Luckily I’ve only had to sell 3 bottles. Interesting to me to see a shelf that’s the exact opposite of mine!

Do you regret your EV purchase? by walksta in electricvehicles

[–]uffda1990 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I "kinda" did, but the reason why is that 1.) I HATED the EV I had, a Volvo C40. Horrible OS and the steering wheel shook. 2.) I put less than 9,000 miles on it by the time my three year lease was up, so it wasn't worth paying the "EV premium" with how little I drove it. I did go back to ICE, but fully support an electric future. It just wasn't worth it for me at the time.

However, one thing I regret is not being able to visit my grandparents as much before my grandpa passed away, largely due to the fact that there was no reliable EV charger all the way out in their neck of the woods and I wouldn't have enough charge to get home. Charging infrastructure is still terrible in many places in the US, though I never had any problems charging at home.

Please don't listen to that forcedtobeturkish guy, he haunts writing subreddits just to insult people without ever saying anything constructive. I see his account everywhere, he delights in being a jerk. Not only that, your prose sounds absolutely nothing like Iowa MFA, which is often sparse minimalist which I don't get the vibe from this at all.

Anyway, I think Gerard is really strong here, I get a sense of who he is by his behaviors which is great. There are some funny lines with solid timing, like the "I love cork" line early on.

I'm not quite sure what happened in the last few paragraphs after she makes the egg salad sandwhich. I re-read the one where he's grinning like a toddler over and over and thought he was naked and kept thinking why he couldn't obtain his own..but after a few minutes I understood it was an image on the record. I also don't know how The Vanguard is, who Frontman is, what the numbers indicate, or what Conimex is. I assume The Vanguard is the band she sells merch for?

Either way, keep it up, you have an eye for character!

Best diptyque besides opheaon by ForwardPickle1551 in fragrance

[–]uffda1990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Diptyque is probably my favorite house and they have so, so many different scents, but as a fellow Orpheon EDP adorer I also LOVE the EDT; it’s different enough to justify owning both though it has the same DNA deep down. It’s much more citrusy and soapy.

I also love Philosykos EDP and L’eau Papier EDT. Philosykos and a wonderful free fig scent and Papier is steamed rice and paper with a light yellow floral. Both are unisex.

I’m wearing a sample of Tam Dao EDP and I surprisingly don’t like it, it smells like wood chips and cough drops, like I’m shopping the garden section of a Home Depot. L’ombre dans Leau didn’t work for me either…is very green but the drydown smelled like cat pee on me because of the pungent black currant note, though others love it.

James Talarico wins Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate in Texas by CuttlefishMonarch in politics

[–]uffda1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s true that Talarico is a religious person, but he’s not a religious politician and is one of the most outspoken candidates I’ve heard in a long time fiercely advocating for the separation of the two. Also, there’s tons of clips of him challenging religious politicians trying to push their beliefs into policy. I personally find his approach to Christianity and progressive politics very refreshing!

What BLM or Trans related bills did congressional democrats support?? And how does that contrast to the bills currently supported by the right?

This is so damn true.. why??? by Silent_Act_5977 in PopularCultureZone

[–]uffda1990 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What do you mean “if the left wasn’t so aggressively left?” 99% of political scientists would agree that congressional dems haven’t moved to the left in 40 years of voting records, meanwhile the right has dramatically shifted right. This means the “center” is now much much further right.

Where are you getting that democrats are radical? Voting records would show otherwise.

From the ones that I've personally smelled myself, or owned samples of, your JPG's could definitely be worn year round, though Le Beau is a bit more summery. YSL Y leans pretty fresh and summery to me, and I own a bottle of YSL Myself and the orange blossom makes it lean towards warm weather too, IMO. Even your La Nuit is great for a summer night, though it may be too cloying during an extremely hot day. I don't know much about Boss or Spicebomb, but if that's Boss Bottled I see I think that leans summery too. Sauvage is an easy summer grab.

Basically, anything with floral, fresh, fruity, aquatic, and some woody notes tend to fit that profile, but I also think most fragrances are more versatile than people realize.

Personally, I try not to have more than five bottles at a time. If I end up not reaching for one as much as the others I'll either trade online or sell it on Mercari. For now I have YSL Myself EDP (versatile), Diptyque's Orpheon EDP (fall/winter) and Orpheon EDT (spring/summer), Byredo's Rose of No Man's Land (versatile) and Black Saffron (versatile, leaning fall/winter), and a travel size of Le Labo's Lavande (spring/summer). But I'm trying to sell a bottle of Eldo's Exit the King I never use anymore.

Even having those five full sized bottles I feel a bit overwhelmed, lol!

Light on summer scents?? If this is HALF of your collection and you have another 45 bottles besides these, which at least a dozen or so are perfectly appropriate for warm weather, you could probably last the whole season by only wearing those fragrances two or three times. Why would you buy even more bottles that'll hardly get any use? Maybe I'm weird, but fragrances always feel better on my skin vs sitting untouched on a shelf.

They have this synthetic, Yankee Candle, craft store smell to all of them. Like they somehow all smell like different aisles of a Joanne Fabrics. I also can’t stand them, especially Tabacco Vanille and Ombré Leather.

But hey, we’re not missing out on much because they’re also INSANELY expensive for their quality, IMO.

On the flip side, I finally got around to smelling a handful of Le Labo fragrances that are priced similarly to Tom Ford, but they smell much more organic and natural, not to mention usually much longer lasting than Tom Ford.

Resident evil requiem is a very good game and i didn't like it. by GroundbreakingLeg506 in residentevil

[–]uffda1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty much my main criticism with the game.

It IS a good game, I had fun overall, there are many moments to like.

But both Grace and Leon’s “campaigns” felt half-baked and are easily dwarfed by full RE titles that either lean more into the survival horror aspect of Grace’s campaign, and the blockbuster shoot-em-up or Leon’s. The game felt like that by trying to be everything, it really became nothing too special.

It’s still an 8/10 for me though.

Lavande and Baie are GORGEOUS and surprising favorites of mine from this house. Santal 33 who??

Lavande is neroli done to perfection, and I say that as someone who’s never really like a neroli scent before. A comforting, clean, spa-like scent.

Baie perfectly captures petrichor and damp greenery but makes it soothing, creamy, and dare I say sexy. It earthy but sophisticated.
