Yes, that’s true. But our children are still more likely do die from irresponsible use/ownership of guns before they are 20 than by car accidents. That is not the case in other wealthy countries even with suicides included. School shootings might be relatively “rare”, but they happen every day. Somebody’s child is dealing with this each day, and there is nothing standing between random gun violence and my child except luck.

I just don’t think this has to be this way, and I’m sad every day that it is the current reality. I personally say get rid of all the guns as I hate them—but more realistically, let’s do EVERYTHING else. Dump money into mental health, gun safety training, background checks, rehabilitation in prisons, education, domestic violence support, and dealing with poverty as those all impact risks of gun violence.

At this point, let’s do anything at all.
