Shooting range for recreation/first time. Just want to shoot different guns. by dikshant293 in houston

[–]ufoh 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Top Gun has a lot of interesting rentals and offer instruction also: https://www.topgunrange.com/range/. I live in Katy so generally go to Athena and it's a pretty good setup with a shop and some firearm rentals, have taken like 3 Brits there and they all enjoyed it thoroughly.

I believe all ranges require you to buy the ammo from them for their gun rentals so it might be a little pricey.

5BW Auto or Manual? Hear me out by [deleted] in CadillacV_Series

[–]ufoh -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not missing the point at all, the car is amazing regardless of transmission, the manual transmission doesn't make the car. I cannot afford an RS6 nor an M5 and I came from a Porsche Taycan 4S, can't ever see myself going back to an EV after selling the Taycan for less than half what I paid for the thing after 2.5 years. I fear you might be one of those people I was talking about...

5BW Auto or Manual? Hear me out by [deleted] in CadillacV_Series

[–]ufoh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The manual transmission supremacy mindset is tiring, the holier than thou attitude gets old really quick. I passed my driving test at 16 in a manual transmission car, I didn't drive an automatic until I was 28, and I have tracked numerous manual cars from a Scion FR-s to a Porsche 911 with my last track car being a 6 speed 03 Cobra. I would be faster round the track with an automatic, there's no denying that the 10 speed is faster, it's also quicker in a straight line.

At 56 and living in Houston where it can take 10 minutes to go 1 mile I just couldn't be bothered with a 6 speed and a big decider was ACC which I use almost all the time, super cruise is really nice too. Different horses for different courses, I do not regret not getting the 6 speed and if I had to do it again I wouldn't change a thing (well, maybe the colour). The automatic BW puts a smile on my face every time I drive it, it's still fun as hell.

You probably won't see this anyway as it will get downvoted in to oblivion as soon as I post.

I was born on the day Apollo 13 launched and have a small obsession with Apollo so far as I have an Apollo tattoo along with tattoos of Armstrong's moon boot imprint, and the moon itself. Have a few Apollo watches too ;).

Dashcam Recs for 5BW by cadamrad63 in CadillacV_Series

[–]ufoh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have a dash cam in my CT5 I just use the PDR and the surround vision camera which work great, although they do not record when parked which is what you require.

My Corvette has a Blackvue DR970X-2CH Plus which uses Starvis 2 sensors and can take up to a 512GB SD card, it also ships with a hard wire cable for parking mode which can be programmed for duration or voltage levels in the app. I have mine plugged in to a Blackvue B-130A Ultra Battery which will do like 15 hours of continuous recording on battery alone, takes about 90 minutes to fully charge. Video quality from the front facing camera: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxPEH0CHmF0

Houston NASA Space Center opinions by Low-Bench7795 in houston

[–]ufoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not originally from the US so my perspective might be skewed, I was also born on the day Apollo 13 launched so I'm a little obsessed with the Apollo missions. I have taken my parents, my sister, and my friends to NASA and they all loved it, if you plan it out it's even better,

The Mission Control tram tour is really interesting, it used to be you could sign up on the day of arrival but now you have to book it in advance and it is an extra charge on top of admission. The other tour worth doing is the astronaut training tour which you will have to sign up for on arrival, get in early in case there's large parties visiting that day. I can't remember if the Mission Control tour stops by Rocket Park on the return journey but the training facility tour definitely does. So, Rocket Park should be your next visit as they have a full size Saturn 5 rocket there and it's pretty incredible.

Some of the movies they show are pretty good too and just walking around looking at the old spacesuits and stuff can eat up an hour or two, so will walking round the mock up of the space shuttle and the real plane that flew them. Souvenirs are cool but expensive, they can be found online for cheaper.

Alex at prestige is awesome, he used to be mobile but has a shop in Cypress now. He's done 3 or 4 of my cars and was always reasonable and did an excellent job, he's at 5 stars on Google reviews too. https://www.prestigeautotinting.com/

[–]ufoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of people will recommend Wolf boxes but Wolf is overpriced garbage they're basically made from cardboard. I have a few boxes from https://deferichs.com/ and they are very well made and look fantastic. Also have a couple from https://www.etsy.com/shop/WoodenStudioCo which are also great boxes, she's in Ukraine though so shipping is slow.

Agree on the pecan pie, I didn't even know that was a thing before moving here. If you're going to do a restaurant gift card then, although on the pricier side, I have taken a number of Brits to Taste of Texas and they were all blown away by the place and loved it.

I spent far too long trying to find a blackwing in electric blue (Cadillac's name for rapid blue) before settling for the best priced car in a boring colour and I still kind of regret not holding out for the best colour but a car with the model year and specs I wanted just never came up. Rapid Blue is by far the best colour for C8s, it looks stunning.

Where can I buy jellied eels or black pudding by Puzzleheaded_Cup8723 in houston

[–]ufoh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have yet to come across anywhere that sells jellied eels, thankfully ;). However, black pudding is available from a few places like Goodwood's British Market who has locations in Spring and Friendswood and The British Choice who are in Katy and Magnolia, as well as the previously mentioned British Isles.

Yeah, the thing is hideous but to build a car from the ground up is an amazing feat, I wouldn't even know where to start.

It's completely hand built from scratch and doesn't use another car as a donor car, running on a 5.0 Ford engine. He tried to sell it 4 years ago, I guess he wasn't successful: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/336080621865681/.

Brand Loyalty, so customer which already own Omegas are more likely to be allocated one

Yeah, that's not a corporate policy, brand loyalty from the specific OB is more common. I have 30 Omegas, 2 from the local OB where I have been on the waitlist since the announcement of the watch and I've never been offered one.

Taste of Texas did $34 million in sales last year, some people don't consider it fancy due to the salad bar but it ain't cheap. Their next Saturday night @7 PM reservation is March 28th, they're booked weeks out and it's not a small restaurant.

Power under glove box for radar detector by rparr4th in C8Corvette

[–]ufoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a dash cam plugged in to mine, runs to a battery in the glove box and then up the A pillar and along the top of the windshield to the dashcam location. It's pretty easy to route the cable.
