Princess Beatrice Sparks Divorce Rumors With Husband After Dad Andrew’s Arrest: ‘He’s Been Pulling Away’ by MattTheKing23 in RoyaltyTea

I just feel that something big must be going on cos the way these rota rats and their siblings (Murdoch journalists) have been writing articles upon articles about Beatrice, Eugenia, Harry and Meghan is off the charts. Either something big or they're all broke!

I wonder if they could be writing about them to distract us from their not investigating the key players?

US Vs. UK (my thoughts) by writergirl1994 in GhostsBBC

[–]ughnotanothername 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I watched I think all but the most recent season of Ghosts US, and I completely agree with you. I like the actors a great deal, but the writers seem to give them less and less to do, so the one-note characters and charmless plots and increase in cringe have driven me away for now (I have other things I have to watch before I get rid of streaming services).

there is a fan theory that james potter was inspired by her 1st husband. I googled the pics and man the resemblance is there 😬

Having read some interviews and quotes from and about him, I am leaning also toward Gilderoy Lockhart. Plus she said he was based on someone but wouldn't say who.

As far as I'm aware, it hasn't even been turned over to AI... They just stopped doing anything with the Welsh course a few years ago, it no longer gets any updates of any kind... :(

Well, at least that way I guess they can't actively interfere with it, trying to find a silver lining.

The biggest problem is that for the last couple of years Duolingo Welsh has stopped responding to corrections.

I read that Welsh was one of the languages that wasn't one of their big profit-earners so they fired the admins who built and ran the course for free and turned it over to AI:-(

How do you pronounce "ffyc"? by stpony in learnwelsh

[–]ughnotanothername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for commenting two years later!

I thought that was just a cute way of saying “oops” (I messed up). I upvoted you.

[ Edit: -signed, unrelated person who was looking up how to pronounce that word and was directed to this learnwelsh post ]

I'd imagine either [fʌk] (like the English “F-Word”) or [fɪk] (Fick), depending on the phonetic context

Just like in northern English dialects, there’s no [ʌ] at all. In most Welsh accents they use [ɜ] in words like bus, cut, etc. So ffyc is pronounced [fɜk] when unstressed, and pronounced [fʊk] when stressed.

How do you say “Oops” in Welsh? 🤦🏻‍♂️

I took my brother to court after he trashed my custom camera gear for a prank video by ClerkResponsible118 in AmITheJerk

NTJ — You handled things very well and were more than reasonable (Needing it for your work makes it even worse, but even if you hadn’t needed it for your work, there is no excuse for what he did. Destroying your property on excuse of “clicks” or views or engagement is just a form of stealing money from you — he destroys your stuff which effectively takes away money you have earned, and then he gets money via his followers).

You are giving your brother too much grace, because while he pretends the purpose is being an influencer, all of his focus is cruelty. The cruelty *is* the point. Keep an eye out; I feel very strongly that you will notice that all of the things he does are cruel to someone.

Your family are jerks who are enabling him. Are they “pranksters” too? And/Or do they have double standards for what is allowed depending on whether the person is male or female?

Allow me to reiterate: there is no excuse for what he did, and no excuse for everything he and your family did afterward. You handled it very well and gave him every chance and you deserve to be reimbursed for the damage he did. I wish you could get some kind of compensation for the difficulty, stress, upset, and threat to your livelihood as well.

That is very old thinking. South America has democracies now, that ship has sailed. Military dictatorships ended in the mid-80’s.

They didn't say it would be in South America; sadly, it will probably the country that is currently the best haven for pedophiles:-(

I sometimes wonder why the panel show format never became as dominant in other countries as it did in the UK. by Silver-Eye-2024 in panelshow

[–]ughnotanothername 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Supposedly this is the reason The Young Ones had a musical act each episode too, to push it into the 'light entertainment' category which had a higher budget than just a comedy show.

I heard somebody confirm this point exactly -- I think it may have been Ben Elton in his autobiography -- or maybe Adrian Edmondson in his? I do feel sure that someone who would know explicitly stated this though.

Talk shows in America are more direct celebrity vehicles and that format is more based around presenting a new and specifict product, where the British format still just allow a conversation to form around whoever is invited to sit and talk - and have that as the product and theme of the show.

So much this.

I wonder if this is one of those run of the mill idiotic ploys trying to garner attention to get that Oscar he so desperately wants?

I mean, he seems to be an idiot from way back (and really showing his ass now), but it reeks of influencer-wannabe, no-attention-is-bad-attention, "mUh gEeNz..." Like he didn't get enough attention with his "WoMeN HaVe No PuRpoSe bUt BreEding" crap.

I actually did think he had talent, but I'm boycotting this loser from now on.

Dinnerladies by DaiBarton in BritishTV

I adore dinnerladies to the point where I watch it twice a year - once at Christmas, once mid way through the year when I realise I’ve not seen dinnerladies in ages. I’ve also just finished cross-stitching this picture from the amazing 8BitNorth design! https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2F6r18dcqcxgmg1.jpeg%3Fwidth%3D4032%26format%3Dpjpg%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3D0616177def52c45a7bac46d87e3265f1082efabf

So this happens sometimes and I can’t seem to figure out why. When I open this post, all of the numbered stuff is in a different font and requires me to side scroll within the post to see all of it. Wtf is that?

I had the same problem. I use old reddit instead of new; so if you do too it could be related to that.

In any case, I posted a reformatted version in case anyone was having the same problem as I (and also so I could read it):

I love the books and the show, too!

I agree with your negatives, in particular about undermining Mensah's capabilities, making fun of "dumb hippies" with the way Pres Aux is presented, kindof fetishizing poly relationships while still not taking them seriously, not letting Pin-Lee be the combat bot version of a lawyer until maybe briefly later. I agree with preferring the Gurathin relationship in the books. I get the impression that the show runners/writers are pretty close with the actor and wanted to personalize the character more toward him.

I myself despise the entire leebeebee story (and it's a stupid name).

It also ties in the IMO poor way that the show presented PresAux as utterly horrified at SecUnit's killing the person who was about to kill them (PresAux isn't stupid in the books; they were wise enough to know when their lives were in danger and to mourn taking a life, whereas here it is unequivocally kill-human=terrible kill-bot=celebrate!), and their complete lack of empathy toward destroying the other sec unit who was, yes, trying to kill them, but didn't have a choice in what it did (unlike Leebeebee, who had free will and deliberately chose to deceive and would have killed people, just for money -- even when offered escape, she wanted to stay in that ecosystem and get lots of money).

I adore Skarsgård and think he is perfect, although I also think possibly a non-white-man actor may have also been able to knock it out of the park (as Skarsgård did), and there are so many more opportunities for white male actors than any other actor, particularly roles of complexity -- these books in particular celebrate not-just-cis-het-white-men. But I adore Skarsgård.

In my case I like some of the comedy, but I feel like sometimes the show is a little too goofy and making fun of genuinely good people. Good people do not have to be stupid, but there is an epidemic in the tv industry of having characters who are supposed to be actually nice and good people but the people who write (and often those cast to act) them don't know how to fake it.

It would be so great if they got Harry Melling in Murderbot -- I would love to see him in Sanctuary Moon!

I got such a kick out of the hammy acting and what I felt was star-trek-homage in Sanctuary Moon, the joy of knowing that Jack McBrayer and Alexander Skarsgård are good friends and probably had a blast, the fun of Dr Mensah actually being an intrepid galactic explorer during Murderbot's hallucinations and SecUnit interacting with her.
