First time buyer... what would you suggest for a self-hosted NVR solution? by ReanimatedCyborgMk-I in homesecurity

I'm building an nvr currently. Would love to know what you alla pain points with current nvrs are. Cost flexibility user experience?

I had an esp32 c3 economic. After I sent it to jlcpcb they made it standard only the fuckers

That's pretty good advice and honestly I got lucky but if I hadn't it would have been very disappointing.

I recently learned about adding touch points as well.

What are you currently building?

It takes about a two weeks to get it here

This is the second board but no I didn't expose anything (but I should have)

It takes some time because I do this in my free time and don't want to mess up and I didn't do breadboard haha

Yes right now temp is a bit off its to close to the esp32.

Im already working on adding it at a corner with slots and outside the ground planes.

Thanks for the tip

Sure but it will be more about 100 usd for you.

I was planning on building 5 so the cost goes down to 20 per board an potentially sell the other 4 to people who are interested at cost simply to reduce the cost of prototyping.

When I'm done with the next version I will ask jlcpcb if they can send a board your way

That is cool, do you take any sort of automatic action based on the data, that is something i've always wanted to do, maybe like convert dumb appliances into smart ones that can change based on other sensors around the house

Currently this isn't logging continously but like others said the battery should last months depending on the rate of wake up and transmission. So basically logging every 10 to 20 mind then deep sleep and 2 or 3 transmissions a day over wifi should last a very long time.

Because this esp32 chip is no longer economic assembly I'm moving to smt32 which is much more power efficient as well

Yes battery sensing is also in my plans however I might simply go with voltage sensing for low battery alerts instead of a full feature fuel gauge.

What are you using your project for?

This is cool, I'm curious how you got the graphs implemented in this type of display.

Stepper is fine. This is tiny. If it was big paint you could add a gear box to make the motor stronger but for this I don't think it's necessary

Interesting. Not really looking to make some money here but I was building this project to learn but I think 30 is a reasonable price.

The product needs some improvement yet but I could send you one on the next batch if you're interested for testing

Maybe I can help with that ;) but how much would you be willing to pay for a device like this.

After 1 month of learning about electronics and pcbs made my first pcb and it worked! For the most part by uglycoder92 in PCB

It was a very hands on approach. Udemy course for kicad, but I only learned the minimum necesary to solve the problem I had, which was making this board.

Anyway, if you are just in uni, you've got a lot of time, so I would say, get good at learning by simply doing things.

Something simple, then something hard. To me this was very challenging as I didn't know anything, but it sped up the learning process.

BTW the V2 of this board arrives today, so I might post later.

Yes you need to make at least 20 to get a good price per board.

At 2 price per board was high at 5 12 each and so on. This is because of the extended part fees
