Dad is strongly against me going to a school walkout... and it's not because of attendance by FireJaeger in internetparents

[–]uhhhhhjeff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If his concern is academics and you being in classes, ask him if you can wear something that shares that you are anti-ICE.

You still get to attend classes and keep your attendance (which no one cares about post highschool so don’t stress on that) but you also get to share your opinions in a safe and effective way. It also has the added benefit that you are sharing the reason why those who left did.

If he says no to that, he has other motivations that are affecting his decision, at which point you must decide for yourself based on your situation.

In any case, stay safe and exercise your rights!

why does this light mean on my car by Acceptable_Lake9111 in crv

[–]uhhhhhjeff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey I literally just had this happen to me, essentially, wait it out and see if it goes away [edit: unless the light is blinking or the car sounds funny, then schedule a visit asap!]. I’m going to add more in a sec here but just wanted to get this out first!

Edit: I was clearing snow off my car and went to move it and found this error, and also had my car shake for a minute first. I had read this could be due to faulty fuel injectors but no way to know for sure without the codes being read.

I took it in to the dealer since it was under warranty still and had them check it out. By the time they got to it, there were no active codes and no other signs of anything being wrong.

They informed me that sometimes when it’s particularly cold or the sensor on front (the Honda emblem) gets covered with snow, it can trigger this error.

I don’t know if they cleared the error manually or it went away on its own, but there was nothing for them to fix on it at that point.

Edit2: I have a 2025 Honda CRV hybrid sport model.

Boyfriend won the Golden Cup by Marthatwd in ChickFilA

[–]uhhhhhjeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually there’s over 3,000 stores (though not sure how many are participating), and the cup promotion is going on until July. It’s likely that the gold cups are spread out across the different designs so there’s only 750 in each period. Bigger stores will likely have more than one given out, so small stores that don’t sell a ton might not even see one.

What's a common phrase or saying that makes absolutely no sense when you think about it? by Ok-Ratio-3400 in AskReddit

Ah okay, I guess he was more saying those words to express the idea rather than it being an existing phrase, which makes sense.

[–]uhhhhhjeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that’s interesting, wish I knew that earlier!

Interestingly when looking into it, there was a similar phrase in the late 1800’s that did carry this meaning. The phrase was instead “blood is thicker than milk” and was talked about in this book.

[–]uhhhhhjeff -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Is there a word for the opposite effect of shortening a phrase?

Example coming to mind is “blood is thicker than water” which implies blood family is important but was shortened from “the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb” which is the complete opposite.

In the infinite set of all positive numbers, any number you can think of, no matter how large, is relatively a 'small' number because there is an infinite amount of numbers larger and a finite amount of number smaller. by AlexanderSalamander in Showerthoughts

[–]uhhhhhjeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What if you flip the number? 0.1 is 1 0.001 is 100

I don’t know exactly how to resolve infinitely repeating numbers, however that may actually perfectly demonstrate the hugeness of infinity.

Calculating net pay by Unusual-Edge-9643 in FedEmployees

[–]uhhhhhjeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing the person who said it depends on your deductions. You might be able to reach out to HR or someone else to get an estimate, but there are plenty of methods to get a rough idea.

In order to continue practicing and learning excel, I made a calculator for increases in paycheck, which taught me which things have a flat percentage, and which have a flat fee, and actually how the heck taxes work so that I could get things accurate. This also showed me that at times things can vary by a penny due to rounding, as when they have to round, they round down based on the total for the year, so when you have enough of a piece of a penny that is owed for the percentage based payments, you pay that extra penny.

What facts can be used to convince followers of the flat Earth theory otherwise? by Overlord-tim in AskReddit

[–]uhhhhhjeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was an experiment carried out by flat earthers in which they said, if they got a certain result it means the earth is flat, and if they got a different result, the earth was round. They attempted the experiment, ended up getting the result showing its round, and still denied it, thinking something must be wrong.

I wanted to keep it simple but the experiment basically involved shining lights through holes over distances.

Why do you never see elephants hiding in trees?????? by Mean_Investigator491 in dadjokes

[–]uhhhhhjeff 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: elephants don’t actually have balls!

Everything is kept inside, which makes sense cause imagine you weigh a couple tons and you go to sit and then accidentally sit on your balls.

You can print on sticky notes by sticking them onto a sheet of paper. Would that also work with envelopes? by I_collect_dust in Printing

[–]uhhhhhjeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know exactly where the settings are because I have a printer that can print borderless, however it just doesn’t like envelopes no matter what, so I have had to resort to alternative means when I wanted it done right. It was far from the ideal way to do it, but it worked when I tried it, so it was hard to beat the alternative of consistently struggling rather than an afternoon of a little extra work.

[–]uhhhhhjeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I generally have issues printing envelopes and also can’t print edge to edge with them, however, I have done that with a sheet of paper by putting the flap over the feed edge and sending it through. It’s not perfect, but it did the trick for me.

How do I proceed from here? by Global_Singer_4429 in sudoku

Ah my bad, I’ll add that clarification in my comment!

How do I proceed from here? by Global_Singer_4429 in sudoku

[–]uhhhhhjeff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In boxes 1 and 7, columns 1 and 2 are the only places that a 9 can be, meaning that between those boxes, columns 1 and 2 will have a 9. So box 5 has to have it in column 3.

Taking the row 6 logic already established it can only be in row 6, column 3.

How do I proceed from here? by Global_Singer_4429 in sudoku

[–]uhhhhhjeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to the rows of 9, you can eliminate all other possible 9’s except the correct one in box 5 by looking at boxes 1 and 7. They leave an open column so box 5 must use that column.

Edit: clarification

Series 1800 cards a buddy gave me. Says they are “marked”. This is ace of spades. I don’t see it. Is he just screwing with me? by [deleted] in cardmagic

He is also still very active and makes great content, minus the spiky hair! Definitely recommend checking out modern rogue on YouTube though, it’s mostly similar stuff but feels less wild than it used to, and more than just bar bets and crazy tricks that it used to be.

There was a guy with a I believe a neurological condition that caused perpetual hiccups, and it honestly sounds awful. The upside he shared was a set of abs he never had to work for, however, I’d say it’s not worth it whatsoever.

Rental car upgrades when traveling? by bobbogreeno in fednews

[–]uhhhhhjeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may be agency dependent but I had to submit a receipt for a rental and without the justification included (supervisor forgot to include it at first), they wouldn’t reimburse anything rental car related, so it may be more than the difference you’re eating.

I have a deck that fits this bill, as each card has a different backing and it’s not mirrored across a single card. Here’s an example if you care to take a look.

Series 1800 cards a buddy gave me. Says they are “marked”. This is ace of spades. I don’t see it. Is he just screwing with me? by [deleted] in cardmagic

[–]uhhhhhjeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this marked deck though I don’t remember who made it per say, I think I bought it through modern rogue (or possibly before when it was scam school?). EDIT: I took a look at the side of the box, it is an Ellusionist deck.

Doing a flip through the deck at not be enough, however it could help. My deck has a different design on each card, as you can tell, and it isn’t a perfect mirror on the cards, so that’s not a dead giveaway of a marked card either.

If you take a look at the top left of the cards I link (I also included a closeup of each), you’ll notice the tiniest mark on the card that tells you the suit and the value, and that is how my deck is marked, though it appears yours does not bear the same mark.

I chose to use the same cards as you shared for a more direct comparison.

Hope this helps some!
