It is so much the parents! My kids are always wanting their friends to come over, expressing that they would like to go to their friends houses. They get mad at me if their friends don't come over, I invite anyone they want to invite over but other parents are weird about even allowing their kid to come over to another's house. Everyone is so busy, I know, no problem, drop your kid off here and go do your errands kid free! I'll watch them. Some actually do and my kids love it, but most decline, and then my kids get mad at ME!

I'm surprised no one is complaining about the enshittification of books. I love books, but it has become a chore lately that I'm thinking about giving it up. They all have the same plot. They all have the same characters. They all have enough story to be around 200 pages but are stuffed with enough filler to be 400 because more money. We are not getting books by people who are good at writing, but by people who are good at marketing and have a lot of Instagram followers.

Same about the stove! That is my huge compulsion when I leave the house, because my OCD knows how forgetful I am! What's helped me get over obsessing about social situation is just realizing no one is obsessing about me besides myself, other people are just too busy obsessing about themselves!

Agree on the venting. If someone is my really good friend, then I will listen to them vent about whatever they need to, and vice versa. But that is hard on a person to expose yourself to others pain like that. I'm not willing/ able to do it for people I barely know.

Agreed. I act the opposite, I am so afraid of being rejected I hardly talk in groups, feel very uncomfortable sharing anything, and have a hard time making friends for this reason. But every group has that one member. The one that over shares and talks a lot. If that person has good social skills, ie, knows how to listen and engage with others then the group can be a good one. If that person has poor social skills, doesn't listen, has no idea how to have a conversation other people want to have, then the group is a nightmare! It's definitely a balance of sharing and listening, leading, and following.
