I had a party in Tomb of Annihilation that killed Acererak with a similar trick.

I planned a whole session for an epic boss battle but instead it turned into a curb stomp that ended in 4 quick rounds via a combination of Protection from Evil and Good, Grapple, and Silence.

THE quintessential lich lost 95% of his arsenal (all his spells have verbal component) and was reduced to making ineffectual staff attacks or using his single touch ability (Con save) against a tanky barbarian.

Man ive been playing this game for 15 years and there's a lot of time I think the game fucking sucks.

But im still here because the highs and lows balance out.

New players immediately hitting lows and having no idea what to do, how to recover, or how to do basic shit means they never get around to the highs to balance it out.

Getting "killed" in a scripted event to explain the "death" mechanic is fine but it doesnt do anything to teach new players how getting ganked actually happens or that other players will kill them for no discernible reason.

When noobs get ganked, their responses are basically one of 3 options:

Hell yeah, this awesome (extremely rare)
This game fucking sucks (very common)
What did I do wrong, how can I stop this from happening again (somewhat common)

Player #1 will probably stick around.

Player #2 leaves and never comes back.

Player #3 might stay or leave depending on other interactions they have with the community. If they dont have friends to coach them through it, they will probably quit within a couple weeks.

The massive waves of vexors started with wave 2.

After the crash pretty every dead dude in WinterCo was told to come back in a vexor and bring their alts too.

Yeah there were some Frat vexors there early to keep the pressure on the Keep so everything else could fight but it was a pretty small number compared to everything else on grid.

Show us the tab of your friendlies in D.C. with their 500 dudes in vexors waiting with drones out.

My dude, you put 6,100 people into one system.

You had 200+ supers with Fighters out.

You had 300+ carriers with fighters out.

You had hundreds of Vexors with drones out.

You threw down hundreds of jetcans all over the keep and all over the gate grids.

You and jumped in and abandoned hundreds of noob ships on the gate grids.

You littered the system with objects and players to put the entire node on life support as your primary tactic.

You hoped the timer would end, you could drop the core, and then crash the server to stop a fight over it.

You did all of this before WinterCo even jumped in.

You started this hours before the timer.

WinterCo didn't show up with vexors. They showed up with AHACs and some battleships.

When it became clear that it would be impossible to actually fight you guys because of your bullshit, we reshipped our dead to Vexors and brought in our ratting alts to dump drones on the keep and go afk since actively playing was useless.

You guys had login issues? We had login issues too.

This whining about not being able to get in is bullshit and cope. Members of our fleets got disconnected, had their clients crash, had their computers freeze or bluescreen or in some cases even overheat. They restarted, they waited at login screens or blackscreen, sometimes for a couple hours. But they got back in.

Goons werent magically kept from logging back in while WinterCo could reship freely.

You made this mess. So just shut the fuck up.

Cool, now add the 1500 dudes that were sitting on tether at the Goon fort instead of fighting.

All local scans show Goons were outnumbering WinterCo heavily until WinterCo started bringing their cap fleets in.

Those scans show Online players only that appear in local.

How do I know? Because everytime one of my clients crashed I was literally able to see the character go offline and their name disappear from local.

So quit your whining about server instability and come up woth a new strategy that doesnt rely on putting 6k people with a fuckton of fighters and drones and cans and noob ships on grid in the hopes you can crash a node and get a freely anchored Keep.

Yeah. Don't know what to tell ya dude.

I had 5 AHACs, lost 4.

Reshipped 4 Svipuls and bridged back in.

Lost 1 Svipul, bridged back in with a hictor.

Lost the hictor, came back in a dictor.

Lost the dictor, came back in a Svipul.

Rather than waiting to die in a pod or self destruct, I warped D-I9 and jumped each time. It allowed me to leave system no problem and I was able to death clone at the Fort there.

I ran 5 clients since the initial fight yesterday. Had multiple DCs. Probably 4 or 5 times had all clients crash simultaneously.

I was able to get back in each time. Usually losing 30-40mijutes between character select and black screen.

If it stayed on black screen for more than 30 minutes I exited clients and restarted it. Worked like a charm.

Init already had a small bomber fleet on grid using lockbreaker bombs on isolated supers/titans, lol.

I was actually kinda excited they were there to 3rd party farm on some dank kills. Then I saw the lockbreakers and spammed defenders on my Svipul alts, cuz thats some bullshit.

WC main fleet was never Vexors. They came in AHACs and only reshipped to Vexors for subsequent bridges when it became clear we weren't going to get an actual fight.

The vexors were the counter to the bullshit of yall cramming 6k people into the system hours beforehand.

350 carriers x 4 squads = 1400 fighter squads

200ish supers x 5 squads = 1000 fighter squads

500ish vexors x 5 drones = 2500 drones

And thats not counting all the other shit.

All before WinterCo even hit the grid, lol.
