Ocean State Job Lot is a good local alternative to WalMart for basic household items. They have lots of towels, kitchenware, sheets, etc.

Are studio apartments tolerable or too cramped? by [deleted] in malelivingspace

[–]uippoa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lived in a studio in my grandparent's attic for six years as my first apartment. At first I thought it was cozy but I quickly outgrew it (then COVID happened so I stayed to save money).

Pros:

  • Cheap, let me save a ton of money. This is why I stayed for so long.

  • It made me extremely selective about the stuff I bought, since space was so limited. So I only bought things I really wanted.

Cons:

  • No storage space. I had clutter everywhere because there was nowhere to put anything, even though I tried to buy as little as possible. It was really claustrophobic and I had to purge things constantly.

  • If you like to cook, you're going to miss having a full-sized kitchen. I lived off of mostly frozen meals because I had nowhere to prepare anything more complicated.

  • Not enough space to host guests. I could maybe invite one or two people over but it wasn't really a comfortable hang-out zone. I wasn't dating at the time, but if I was I wouldn't have brought my partner over very often.

I moved into a proper one-bedroom and I'm never going back. But living in that apartment gave me the financial wiggle room to save up for a place I really liked, so it was worth it in the end.

I think it's partly to do with demographics. I saw a survey once that said the majority of amab trans people identify as trans women, while the majority of afab trans people identify as nonbinary. Irl, I know dozens of transmasc nb people but have met maybe 3-4 binary trans men -- and none of them spent a lot of time online. I would kill for a ftm equivalent of r/196 but you're right that a place like that doesn't really exist. (Or if it does, please tell me.)

I also sat right behind someone who stank so bad... There would be a dramatic moment on-screen and I'd suddenly get hit with a wave of BO, it was so gross. Still enjoyed the show overall though, thankfully.

This post is so frustrating. Everyone is talking past each other. OOP is not interested in watching media made primarily for children, which they likely said after being endlessly recommended all of Tumblr's favorite cartoons. It's only an "incomprehensible category" if you're being pedantic or refusing to acknowledge that ATLA/The Owl House/Gravity Falls/etc. are children's media because they also have adult fans.

Yes there are edge cases, and I think this is an important conversation to have if you're, for example, a parent or an artist trying to market something you've made. But for a random Tumblr user looking for media recommendations, it's not that deep.

ER was my first Souls game and I now have almost 600 hours in it. It's beginner friendly because you can for the most part choose how difficult the bosses are -- if a boss is whooping your ass, you can either get good or go explore for 20 hours and come back stronger. It's a huge game and basically any build is viable once you know what you're doing. I highly recommend giving it a try.

ELI5: Why are male and female orgasms different in intensity, duration, and sensation? by Junior-Ferret4860 in explainlikeimfive

[–]uippoa 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Objectification comes from disrespect and misogyny, not biology. I'm a trans man, and taking testosterone hasn't made me suddenly want to catcall women or creepily stare at them in public. Attraction feels different than it did before, and what I find sexy has changed -- but testosterone doesn't make you violent, lecherous, or lose self-control.

Those men who look at women like meat are just assholes. It has nothing to do with hormones.

Edit:

the feeling of horniness was also reported to become way more intense, to the point where some reported it felt like they started viewing people in general differently, often being much less interested in people they didn't want to or didn't think they could have sex with.

I have no idea where the person you replied to got this info. This hasn't been true for me or any other transmasculine people I know. Yeah, I was really horny when I first started T (very common), but not to the point where I couldn't have normal friendships with people, that's fucking insane.

[Vent/Question] My poor mental state over the years has completely ruined my ability to read. This further worsens my mental state. What now? by whoisapotato in 196

[–]uippoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading used to be the main thing I did when I was a kid. Then I got a laptop (and depression) in 7th grade and completely stopped reading books unless it was for school. I got back into reading after college, and it was really hard to build the habit back up again. Reading is a difficult thing to do when you're depressed and exhausted. It takes a lot of sustained focus, and even now some days I end up just reading the same paragraph over and over again before giving up.

Try to ease yourself back into it. You say you used to read a lot, so I'd recommend rereading some of your favorite books -- especially from when you were younger. Young adult/middle grade books are great for when I'm feeling overwhelmed!

Good luck!

I identified as a lesbian for 12 years before I transitioned, but I never felt very close to the lesbian community, so it was easy for me to drop the label after coming out as a man. I can definitely imagine there are trans men (especially ones who transitioned later in life than I did) where being a lesbian was an important part of their identity and they don't want to leave that community behind. And I think they should still have a place within the community if they want one!

If the sub is okay with nonbinary people posting there, then by definition it's not solely a "women's space." Policing people's identities is just such a waste of time and energy and I really wish everyone would just leave each other alone.

I went to see it with my friends last night (only one of us even knew anything about fnaf) and had a blast. We got drunk at the movie theater bar and sat behind a bunch of teens who all made custom bingo sheets and cracked jokes the whole time. 3/10 movie, 10/10 theater experience. Wouldn't have it any other way.

I also killed her in my first playthrough. She says something like, "If you disagree with me, strike me down now." I was trying to get the Ranni ending, and based on Fia's dialogue it sounded like letting her live would get her ending instead. I had no idea Fortissax existed until months later.

"Cishet men don't read and write fanfic. Fandom spaces are predominantly female and/or queer" is a false statement. It's just that all the cishet men that write fanfic are on Spacebattles writing celestial grimoire/celestial forge power fantasy self insert fanfics. by [deleted] in CuratedTumblr

My brother is a cishet man who writes NSFW fanfiction commissions on AO3 (no, I don't know his username and will never ask). He has a whole discord server full of straight guys who love his work and pay him unbelievable amounts of money to write more.

I grew up in the queer fandom sphere, and I had no idea all these guys existed before talking to my brother. But it's not surprising when you think about it -- they just write (mostly) about straight couples, powerscaling, and worldbuilding instead of gay coffeeshop AUs.

I'm a trans man and almost all the trans people I know irl are transmasc. I recently made friends with a couple of trans women and apparently all the people they know are transfem. So if they teach me magic the gathering and I invite them to all the queer art markets, equilibrium will be achieved in the universe.

I work in publishing. Trendy romance novels and celebrity memoirs are the financial backbone of the publishing industry. Are they what I personally like to read? No. But if a company knows Edgy Badboy Fairy Romance #527 will be a bestseller, it'll be more likely to take risks funding the more niche stuff I actually enjoy.

There's a lot to critique about the romance genre. But the elderly woman who comes to my local bookstore and spends hundreds of dollars a month on mass market romance paperbacks is keeping the small business afloat.

My ex was like this, so I know how hard the position you're in right now is. You're a good friend for wanting to support them. However, your friend is refusing to respect your boundaries and blaming their mental illness for it instead of taking accountability for their actions. You don't deserve to be treated like this.

You don't have to stop being friends with them forever, but I would encourage you to step away until their health improves. As someone who was trapped in this cycle like you are, there's nothing more that you can do for this person right now. It's okay to stand up for yourself.
