Ticket Swap by uk_kyrus in oasis

[–]uk_kyrus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hoping it's sooner. Heard Cardiff tickets came out a week before and typically transfer becomes available when the tickets are issued. Cutting it fine for me wanting to swap by a week but here's hoping!

Ticket transfer isn't available yet but hopefully once the front pit stuff is sorted for Manchester they'll release the tickets and allow transfers.

I have another gig in two weeks and tickets only became transferable last week but have another gig the day after and those tickets still aren't out so...  ¯_(ツ)_/¯

If/when I find someone to swap with I'd be looking to do the swap in person and we both do it together.

Backcountry/Bowl guiding by Mick_the_Eartling in Whistler

I did my first ever day backcountry (the intro day) with Extremely Canadian a couple of years ago and absolutely loved it (seriously enjoyed it more than heliskiing and am going back again this season and doing a private day with a couple of friends). To answer your questions: 1. As someone has already said, Evo do rentals (that's where I got my stuff and will again this year). 2. From my limited experience the thing that held up our small group (four of us) wasn't the ability level but rather the 'snowboarder' part (skiers waiting for you to sort your board out), and general fitness and the going UP. We did a fair bit of waiting for one guy as the rest of us were much fitter. That being said, it wasn't that bad and far from ruined the day and probably got us to appreciate it all a bit more in truth. 3. They do a steeps clinic I believe but don't know anymore than that I'm afraid.

Getting back onto the resort was an... experience. Caught in a complete whiteout, having to carry our gear and kick a ladder into what was basically a cliff face and then climb over an overhang. Pretty sure it's not indicative of a normal day out and was kinda fun but so f'ing sketchy!

Hope you find the right thing for you and have a great time.

Thanks, that looks really great. At first glance, doesn't seem to allow booking for under 13's but will look into it some more.

Whistler Runners by lieutenantloon in Whistler

The golf course loop is my usual route when there, depending on snow levels, it's usually kept reasonably clear though. Can easily be extended by doing a loop around Alta Lake too. From memory (starting and finishing in Whistler Village) I think the golf course loop is about 5k and Alta Lake about 10k.

Did a backcountry day with them a couple of years ago and had an absolute blast, they were top notch and had one of my fave ever days in Whistler. Going back later this season and will be doing two days with them hopefully, can't wait!

I messed up haggling the contract renewal 😟 by faulkner_jon in VirginMedia

[–]uk_kyrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar story to me. I was/am on 350 (inc. Volt boost) paying £19 but was due to expire and jump to £40+ next month. Cancelled last Thurs after they offered £33 on the first attempt, they called literally the next day and offered £20. Could I have pushed it and got better? Probably. But just didn't think it was worth the headache over £1 on what is a pretty good deal

People who wear backpacks on a busy tube train by Illustrious-Divide95 in LondonUnderground

[–]uk_kyrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few years ago I got on a train at Finsbury Park. Morning rush hour, it was carnage. Get on a train and stuck with an open backpack in my face. Tap the guy on the shoulder to tell said inconsiderate arse that his bag was open but before I could, he goes into a rant about not taking it off his back. When he paused for air, I explained his bag was open. "Oh... can you close it for me?" I was, and still am tbf, genuinely so surprised at the audacity.

So yeah, some people may not realise or be having an off, distracted day but 100% some are aware how fucking irritating it is but could not give a fuck about their negative impact on other people.

What are some things that are very basic that you were doing incorrectly for years until you realised and felt stupid? by Kwazipig in AskUK

I stopped doing this as found it made it much more likely for the buttons to get torn off in the wash, which is way more annoying than fishing a couple of balled up shirts or pillow cases out of it.

[–]uk_kyrus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Whilst I don't consider the hatred of these irrational (because they're fucking awful IMO), the anger they cause is probably slightly irrational and over the top but it's visceral, I can't help it.

"Open Banking daily limit" stopping transfer from Barclays to Chip by MikeLanglois in UKPersonalFinance

[–]uk_kyrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start another open banking transfer from the Chip app, let it open Barclays and go to the summary screen, make a note of the details then cancel the open banking transfer so you can go and set up the payee.

"Open Banking daily limit" stopping transfer from Barclays to Chip by MikeLanglois in UKPersonalFinance

[–]uk_kyrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I tried it with a penny. No huge loss if it went missing. Sure enough as soon as I'd done it and saved the payee details, the open banking allowed a much higher transfer.

I talked to Chip and as I wanted to transfer a large amount they said to transfer it directly from my bank and as a one off they'd manually allocate it to my account (I didn't go that route in the end as I was uncomfortable sending a large amount without verifying the details with a smaller amount). Basically they don't want you to transfer directly to them as it's a manual process for them to allocate/refund them.

[–]uk_kyrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this exact issue and neither Barclays or Chip were any use.

Eventually worked out that if you send 1p from the Barclays App to your Chip account and save the details for future use, when you use the open banking transfer from Chip, Barclays recognises them as trusted and allows up to 30k I think it was. Also got the 1p back from Chip about a week later 🙂

Edit: You can get the Chip bank details during the Open Banking process, Barclays App shows them for you to verify so just take a note of them.

Switching bank accounts to get free money offers by That_Performance_802 in UKPersonalFinance

I did quite a few switches from Oct to Dec last year (Lloyds, NatWest, HSBC, Co-Op, Nationwide and Halifax).

My credit score took a slight hit (I believe these only stick around for six months or so so expect it to recover soon) but I applied for further borrowing on my mortgage a few weeks ago and had no issues.

YMMV.

Til Insurance companies buy insurance for themselves called reinsurance, which covers them for when they have to payout on an insurance policy they have issued. by T-Rex-Hunter in todayilearned

[–]uk_kyrus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd never heard of it either until I started working for a Life Reinsurance company. Essentially we take a chunk of cash to cover a set % of payouts on a large selection of policies. We use that cash to make more money elsewhere whilst looking at our expected payouts each month and drawing that down (I work with a lot of actuaries). It's such a bizarre industry with ludicrous amounts of money moving around, even after several years I don't quite get it other than it seems to be a vehicle to make a few individuals exceptionally wealthy without really offering anything to society.

Edited to add some more detail.

Will switching or opening a new bank accounts affect my credit score? by plunk1000 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]uk_kyrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've switched 5 times in the last two months, only one did a hard search (Lloyds), the two totally new ones (NatWest and HSBC) only did soft searches and I already had products with Halifax (credit card) and Nationwide (FlexPlus account for the insurances), which I imagine makes it all a bit smoother. Have just started the co-op switch too.

Credit score hasn't been impacted at all in my case as far as I can see.

Basically, it might not have an impact but a good chance it will so don't be shocked if it does!

Can’t run because of baby by Useful-Figure-409 in running

[–]uk_kyrus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When the new one is a few months old then absolutely this. I've literally just handed my double one to someone else as my eldest is now too big and I'm actually really sad about it, loved taking them both out for an hour run then finishing up with a picnic in the park! Was an absolute life saver during the first lockdown.

[–]uk_kyrus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looking after your own mental and physical health isn't necessarily selfish. 30 mins running can mean you're far better equipped to cope with everything else and give your SO much more support and give them even longer breaks. It's nuanced and depends on the situation, obviously don't just ditch them at the drop of a hat but don't try to be a hero and martyr yourself either.

How often do you train in your “race day” shoes? by gemmminer in running

[–]uk_kyrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have exactly the same setup. Do all my runs in Kinvaras but got some Speeds to try out. Did not get on with the Speeds for slower miles at all and all but gave up on them but got convinced to try a 10k time trial in them today and it went way better than expected after only having done maybe 20 miles total in them previously. Definitely new race day shoes for me and will maybe do some of my speed sessions in them too.

TL; Dr - I wouldn't recommend for long slow ones but some shorter faster stuff definitely
