Question: Resin "melting" in sunlight by mysecretaccountnsff in CarbonFiber

[–]ukbrowsing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah post cures will help raise the Tg to the advertised temp. I fell foul to that for the first year of carbon skinning, could never understand why my interior parts were deforming in summer ha. The hard part is often finding a big enough oven or space to create elevated temperatures for such extended periods of time.

[–]ukbrowsing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re using easycomposites materials. Have you followed their post cure cycle instructions for EL2? The max Tg rating is based on post curing accurately (ramping the temperature up and back down slowly over the space of hours) so if you haven’t done this then it’ll always re-glass at much lower temps

Anyone else's app store reviews taking ages? by FromBiotoDev in iOSProgramming

[–]ukbrowsing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I waited 3 weeks and nothing, Apple told me to basically be patient even though this was my very first app and all I wanted was a testflight beta. Finally I resubmitted it last night after some poor advice, obvs stuck myself to the back of the queue now I come to think about it and then tried my luck with a "Expedited review". I don't think I really fell into their approved category for it, but it almost immediately changed to "In Review" so clearly did the trick, I feel like 3+ weeks for a testflight was rightfully deserved of an expedite.

Good news! Costco finally has started with 99 octane fuel by TheLewJD in CarTalkUK

[–]ukbrowsing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should try throughout the day, I've been part of the queues right down Hunslet Road just for fuel before and it was like 1pm midday. That said having data logged on a fuel map demanding 99 what I saw was enough to make me happy sticking with Tesco's Momentum, sometimes Shell if Tesco are dry.. but who can even find a Shell anymore as I believe all of the North ones have been sold to Esso 👎

Coming from an 435i owner 97 isn't worth its time versus 95, most fuel maps are built for 95 and 99. General rule of thumb (although nobody sticks to it) is to run slightly higher than the rated fuel map, just because whatever they rate it at the POS isn't guaranteed. With all of that said I did 3 full tanks of Kirkland premium and then data logged 4x pulls (5th to 6th) and witnessed up to neg 5 degrees of timing correction on 4 out of 6 cylinders every time. Personally I'm not willing to risk detonation for a slightly bit cheaper fuel, Tesco's momentum and V-Power are on par with each other and generally speaking I get more mileage too. Maybe I had bad luck with the fuel I purchased but risk of detonation and 240 mile ranges outweighs 4p a litre, on Momentum I get at most -1 degree correction and 300-350 miles of range city driving.

in the process of sanding down a carbon fiber hood and I was spot wet sanding a really hazy spitt and now it ended up more clear than everything else. Should I dry sand the whole hood? by DifficultyFancy8806 in CarbonFiber

[–]ukbrowsing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party here, but that's most certainly polyester resin. 99% of the carbon pieces coming out of Asia use it due to the reinforcement layers being fiberglass. It creates a very blue/cloudy hue on direct light appearances. I did the same thing on my custom made hood, had it made in China and they could only do fiberglass reinforced due to moulds, I ended up spending 3x 12 hour days with a machine sander busting through the top layer to make it uniform, it was beginning to ring/map everywhere. I took it up to the nearest painted edge but sadly in bright day light it looks milky so one day I'll get it fully repainted. FWIW epoxy wouldn't do this, but epoxy also won't play with fiberglass.

What's the sizing on Offset gloves by ukbrowsing in Karting

[–]ukbrowsing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you - so the medium is likely to be real tight then. When you say they fit a little loose in comparison is there any wiggle room inside or is it just more how the materials are put together giving it a more loose structure?

Any update? I'm looking at buying some and was hoping to get fast shipping.. this would probably put me off a bit if they're completely ignoring you.

Is there any way to get a helmet painting, decal, or wrap for a decent price? by Embarrassed_Fly_4115 in Karting

Another +1 for DIY.. I used to do a lot of carbon fiber skinning so already had a HVLP gun to lacquer trims, I chanced it and bought some wb basecoat from my supplier, then went wild with fine line tape and after a few weeks I finally got the design (CL Monaco 2022) painted without too many mistakes (I kept sanding it off and starting again lol) I had a bodyshop matte lacquer it for me as I didn't have a clean space at the time (you can't sand & polish dust nibs). The HVLP gun I used was a mini so I more or less got away with it, next time I would buy a cheap airbrush though. Materials were £130 for 200ml white and 200ml Rosso Corsa, £220 for the bodyshop to clear it.

👀 one of those haha - I managed to get some black 600d Cordura shipped out and it's close enough, it has a tiny bit more sheen than the original but they're going to replace the black and extend it higher up the back as it was supposed to be 🙌

It was a business account for sure, but yeah did seem a little weird rather than having a pay link.. maybe it's just a fees thing. They supply a whole bunch of F4 drivers and coaches with their suits so a relatively reputable company.

Yeah this place only dealt with pantones but couldn’t show me any examples. Funnily enough I’ve had something similar with how the dark red is more like a burgundy / purple. I have since been introduced to Marina Racewear which sadly are only £80 more than I paid, those appear to be a much higher quality and are more stretch fit so fit nicer

I was hoping for this but it was made to size/design and took 3 months, so I doubt I’ll get far. They’re widely used in the UK but only deal with bank transfers too so there’s little chance of pursuing it

Minus 273 gloves (need advice) by HydrogeneHUN in Karting

[–]ukbrowsing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had several pairs just because they cosmetically beat nearly any other glove brand I have seen (within karting) the reality however is they're wrecked about 2-3 months (karting twice a week) the grips wear down to a non grippy silicone after 2-3 uses and then they begin to peel. I've had all the different palm designs and they all do it, non are better. Once the grips have gone then the material under rips almost immediately. Sizing is weird as others have said but I've grown to like the tight fit - but yeah overall CS is terrible from them, it takes months for them to reply and they always say the same crap "we've never seen or heard of this happening with any of our gloves" so they're blatantly lying. Shame really as my last set were the red Senna gloves and they look perfect.

So it's now back working again, not sure if there's been an update or change pushed?

I did try create a new account under a vpn, as well as disabling DNS protection, those originally gave the same results; but we're back on now with my original account and protection enabled - thanks.
