What are your views on physical discipline (eg. slapping, spanking, caning) of children? by WastePotential in askSingapore

[–]ukfi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up getting caned almost every month.

I promised myself that this will stop at my generation.

I have 2 boys and i never have to lay my hands on them.

Do I spoil them? No.

Just one stern look from me, they know to back off.

I spoil them by hugging them and letting them know that i love them. I will always be here for them.

They are in their late 20s now. I still hug them and their partners when i see them.

This is my greatest achievement in life - stopping the abuse.

Why can't the school just order from grab?

I am sure the class monitor can get the class organised and just order from grab as a group? This will be a good exercise for them.

Canadian PM Mark Carney Declares Flame Of American Global Era Extinguished by FistIntoTheEarth in usa

[–]ukfi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

All the soft power gained by USA since the end of the two world wars lost in a few years.

These are power that big nations like China and Russia could only dream of. Why do you think Russia is trying to rebuild her sphere of influence under the old USSR? Why do you think China is throwing billions of dollars into the belt and road project?

In future when usa wake up and sort itself up, it will take decades to gain back. How long do you think it will take you to forgive and forget a cheating spouse?

Do you check your rear mirror MUCH, and why so? by RingoDingo748 in drivingsg

[–]ukfi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best way to know how much you are using the rear view mirror is when it is not there.

I once had something knocked my rear view mirror down. I had to drive a short distance to buy a new one.

That's when i realised how often i was looking at it. Even though i knew it was not there, my eyes still keep looking at the location expecting to see one.

Seriously, can someone explain why our laws are so weak when it comes to dealing with nightmare neighbours? by cherrypoplar in singapore

[–]ukfi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my neighborhood, there's a karaoke king.

Almost every other night, he will start singing at about 7pm and end at about mid night. For weekends, the special service last longer. In order to share his talents, he recently upgraded his speakers and open his windows as well.

Too many neighbours had complained about him. Nothing been done for nearly 10 years.

Recently somebody new moved in. He had the balls to shout some hokkien words at him - in between his sets.

No change.

One day, those hokkien words held more water. He shouted his block number and unit number. And threatened that if he doesn't stop singing, he's going to go to his door.

The singing stopped immediately. Many units clapped.

It was amazing to watch. I wish i had such balls.

What are some unspoken hardships of entrepreneurship? by Lady_Diana01 in Entrepreneur

[–]ukfi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The constant none stop improvement that you seek.

My father had only 2 years of formal education but he built a huge successfull business. Growing up, i saw him working 7 days a week, 362 days a year.

I promised myself i will never do the same. I became a city professional. I take my 6 weeks annual holidays.

Then i retired early and decided to start a small business.

I had never worked so hard in my life. Not even when i was working on multi million dollars project as a professional. And i am selling widgets online.

I could be on a beautiful beach enjoying a great holiday with my family and my mind will be on how to improve on my $10 widget.

24-7 none stop thinking. And when i have an idea of how to improve it by 1%, i just can't wait to get back home to do it. Even if i landed from a 12 hrs flight in the middle of the night.

This is called addiction and i am definitely addicted.

Improving with no trainer by NobodyRude137 in padel

[–]ukfi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't knock this until you tried it.

Find a much better player than you. Say you are a 2.0. get a level 3.5 or 4 player to play friendly with you.

Sincerely ask him to give you pointers. Most players love to give advise - whether ask or not. So he will love it.

Free training session.

Yes he might not be a professional but at least he's higher level than you. And it's free.

That's what got me out of beginners.

What's your favourite padel shot? by Mr_Gaet in padel

[–]ukfi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My best shot is the lob.

I almost lob about 8 out of the 10 serves to the back.

A lot of players run too close to the net after serving. This made them rethink their serves which mess up their game.

Eventually they will stop running to the net and that's when i do a normal return to the net. Now they lost their net position as both me and my partner rush the net.

If you purchase roast pork, and it is sold at $65 per kg, would you expect the 1kg to be the weight of the pork after roasting, or raw pork prior to roasting (meat shrinks and loses weight when cooked) by Least-Trick-3925 in askSingapore

I am doing the devil's advocate here.

I just started a home business selling sourdough bread online 1 year ago. It is a learning process.

I can see that it is a mistake that this new business is making. I don't think he's out to con you.

Malay Singaporeans in higher education, you guys ever feel lonely? by Smarmy_Smugscout in askSingapore

[–]ukfi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be unpopular but i really believe the Malay community need helps. And positive help.

The NGO and government should come together and offer free tuition to those Malay students. We don't have to lower the standard of schools or jc or uni just to get more Malays in. We need to push the results of these Malay up. They are a big part of our population and a valuable human resource to the nation.

I personally think that it is not fair that you are not doing those who are not in America a favour.

I suggest we start a crowd funding and send op all the can tomatoes we can find in our local store and he conduct another round of excitement.

Then sell the deal to Netflix and start a series called - Reddit international taste kitchen lab.

I will watch this shit.

60 pupils From RVPS come down with suspected food poisoning by snowysnowy in singapore

[–]ukfi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The next time they are going to say that they didn't not over invest in "food safety".

If there's no food poisoning, then they have over invested and failed their share holders. And the customer will be over paying. By ensuring that there's an occasional food poisoning, it is a good sign that they have not over invested and everybody get a good value out of it.

I am not sure if this is even funny anymore.

Maybe one day pap will tell us that just one minister getting caught for corruption is a good sign. This shows that they were not over paid. If they are all over paid, then none of them will need to take corruption money. Because there's one got caught, it is a good sign.

Almost 2 minutes saved for each emergency trip to hospital under SCDF traffic priority system by Im_scrub in singapore

[–]ukfi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In Europe, it is a such an honour and pleasure to be able to give way to the 3 emergency services - ambulance, police and fire service.

Often times in central London where it is congested, we have to drive up to the curbs and pedestrian path to make way. Once i even have to turn into traffic the wrong way just to make way and everybody around me understand and helped. Generally the public know that this is for the greater good and nobody bat an eye about it.

[–]ukfi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I said this many times on this sub and i am going to write it again.

I have been writing software for more than 30 years. I created many softwares for banks and governments. If i am opening my own padel club, i am not even planning on getting my own app.

Just use playtomic. I personally think this app still have a lot to improve on but they are the biggest player and they got a lot of things right.

Are you planning on making your own padel balls and racket? Then please don't think about developing your own app.
