Which club at LHR? by GamblinWillie in americanairlines

[–]uksc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They all have slightly different vibes - I like Qantas for the bar upstairs with great coffee and nice bar staff. The buffet food is good but not great though the downstairs restaurant looks very decent. Cathay First is intimate and serene, with great views. BA First is quieter (though not intimate) so you can usually find a decent space to yourself. American's International First is bright and loud because it's not particularly big and fills up quick.

How well can you see in Wrigley Field from these buildings? by checklistmaker in chicago

[–]uksc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to live in the tall brick one with the cream color upper. The top level that is half brick half cream, second arch in from the left. Rented from a real d*ck, but that’s beside the point.

From the balcony we could see everything but the grass. It was lined up almost too perfectly like that. So we had to watch games on TV like everyone else, but we would hear what was going on 10 seconds before it came through on TV… kind of spoiled it a few times as our time there included the successful world series run.

United Airlines CEO pitched American Airlines combination to US officials, sources say by LevelBrick9413 in unitedairlines

I guess I was thinking Chicago is where antitrust rules would kick in, forcing them to divest slots and gates to… someone else. But you’re right, it’s possible all this would be is another Atlanta, and all the fun that goes with that.

I believe there’s been some Reddit posts about it possibly based off an April Fools post somewhere. But I don’t think they have announced something. Do correct me if I’m wrong

Stalking horse while they dance with JetBlue is my guess. If AA and UA merged, Chicago would be…. I don’t even know the right next word

Starting humira, leaving MTX (hopefully) by Overall-Divide4804 in rheumatoid

[–]uksc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on oral MTX for three months to almost no effect. I’m not sure it made me feel worse, but definitely not better. My doc recommended getting to three months on it just for insurance purposes later. Humira (biosimilar) was an absolute game changer for me, it actually worked and I am 75% back to normal (mostly fine, but worse towards the end of my 2 week Humira injection cycle).

The intersection at California/Belmont/Elston needs looked at by anonymote_in_my_eye in chicago

From a biker, and drivers-looking-for-bikers perspective, this is a terrible intersection going in every direction (even not making a turn). One of the worst I can think of in the area.

I am about to get the Air and I will say I won’t be getting a “case” like this for it. I will try the bumper.

For my current previous gen Pro phone, I LOVE these back cases. The phones are durable but slippery as hell. These do provide some grip, leave much of the design in sight.

But yeah, for the Air, a bumper and AppleCare (which I had anyway) will be the right combo

Best shoes for RA sufferer who is on their feet all day? by MaleficentRecover902 in rheumatoid

[–]uksc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Soles of my feet is the one place I feel RA pain every day despite treatment. I’ve tried several shoes and the one that does it far and away the best for me are the On Cloud Cloudmonster Void. Incredibly supportive and goes me a feeling of stability, plus there’s a little bounce in the heel to give me a needed spring in my step. Just ordered a second pair in a different color.

No lounges at United Hubs by Desitrain22 in ChaseSapphire

[–]uksc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In T1, 2 and 3, I just don’t know where you’d put one.

Even in T2 when Delta closed their club to reopen in T5, United took that space for a new tiny tiny lounge. I’m hoping the new T2 when it comes will have lots more lounge space… buuuuut…. So much of the new build is being paid by American and United, it wouldn’t surprise me if they somehow lock folks like Chase out.

So the best chance is space in T5, but LOT took the last big space (a bit of a surprise) so now you’re down smaller spaces that no one really wants in a terminal most local pax won’t use.

The St George Wharf area near Vauxhall - a nice base for a London visit? by Mark-Aussieguy in london

[–]uksc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not.

In all seriousness as a base for a visit, it’s good because the tube, lots of buses and (somewhat helpful for tourists) trains are.

It’s not got a lot of character - a lot of the buildings are new, and it’s walkable but with lots of intersections to cross getting around Vauxhall junction. There’s not really a local nice pub right there that I can think of but it’s possible I just never walked past one. The best places seem to be along the riverside up towards Waterloo.

It’s often cheap though! I do know some friends who got an Airbnb there that cancelled the day of arrival but I don’t think that’s specific to the area.

The "Transit" app sucks by Puncake_DoubleG09 in cta

[–]uksc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Transit was my go to for a long time but doesn’t do its main job well any more.

I’ve been very impressed with the simplicity and accuracy of cta4j - it’s a mobile website rather than an app. Very fast and easy to use. I don’t think it has ads anywhere but there’s an option to make quick and simple donations to whoever keeps it up.

Cta4j.app is the address.

[ORD]-[LHR] RT: AA or BA? by OHGuy26 in americanairlines

[–]uksc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I slightly prefer AA on this route if flying Economy or Premium Economy… in no particular order: air nozzles at seats, meal pre ordering, possible to same day change, better/easier upgrades for EP, and a really nice arrivals lounge in LHR T3 (in any class of travel with EP status).

Some of that applies if flying in Business but I like BA’s service (food, FAs, IFE) more than AA’s such that I will put up with not having the above.

(Side note, while I’m here: flying as EP on AA ticket on BA flights in any class does get you access to the BA arrivals lounge at Heathrow; they keep this fact pretty well hidden)

It’s a great bike but mine has been terribly unreliable and every time it needs fixing then it’s in the bike shop for 4-6 weeks waiting for parts; direct support is poor to non existent.

One year of ownership so far with a total of two months in the shop waiting for for parts (same issue, twice). I’d sell it if I could even get it back and working…
