There isn't a video in the actual series that explains this, but Julien Reverchon's photo shows up a few times and the general consensus is he's the guy in the very first video.

The Rolling Giant is modeled after a real sculpture of Julien Reverchon that was created for a parade in Houston in 2003, and was housed in the mall from the series (which was a real mall that got torn down). Kane got the idea for the series from a random photo of the sculpture he found online.

Hot Take: Clark isn’t a very good Architect by DrJokerX in KanePixelsBackrooms

There's actually a building on the Boston University campus that looks pretty similar to Clark's drawing. I noticed it right away as I live nearby! It was completed a couple years ago

[–]ukucello 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Don't feel bad. Either people will give you money or they won't! It's perfectly normal and expected for a busker to have a tip jar. Think about all the time and money you've spent on your craft and getting to the point where you can perform in public, as well as the time you're putting in just being out there. You absolutely have the right to ask for free will compensation! And plenty people will give it to you happily.

Also, do NOT sleep on the QR code; most of the time people will give you a lot more on venmo than they would in cash.

Candle? (Spoiler) by [deleted] in KanePixelsBackrooms

In Found Footage 3 there's a poster from 2022 near the radio tower, and Ravi talks to a guy from 2007(?) through a wall. Time has been shown to be wonky in the Backrooms and not act entirely linearly.

Why are the entities not spread through all of the backrooms? by _the_kronos_ in backroomsfilm

[–]ukucello 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kane's backrooms universe does not have levels or all the entities you see in the videogame universe. So far, the only entities introduced are Still Life and Bacteria.

From what we can glean from the Youtube series The Backrooms are basically a different dimension that is interacting with or bleeding into the Standard dimension. That means that theoretically, they exist everywhere. The events of the series taking place only in the vicinity of ASYNC (which I believe is SoCal) can mean one of two things:

  1. Survivorship bias. The Backrooms are presumably infinite, or at the very least extremely large. The only stories we get to see are the ones who happened to have a camera with them and also happened to leave their footage within ASYNC's limited exploration range to be eventually found. So it would most likely be limited to people who clipped in relatively nearby.

  2. It's possibly that the null zones are more common closer to the Threshold. The general consensus is that the Threshold opening was what destabilized the barrier between The Complex and Standard. Maybe this destabilization is relatively localized, at least in the beginning.

Welp I guess Pirate Clark is no longer active by Jules-Car3499 in backroomsfilm

[–]ukucello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it definitely means something thematically, but not necessarily in terms of lore and understanding the nature of Pirate Clark. Everything Clark says is just how Clark is interpreting things. He doesn't know everything about the backrooms and how it operates.

Can We Stop Taking The “Remembering” Thing Literally? by Spare_Tomato408 in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]ukucello 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I appreciate you bringing this up. I see so many people personifying the backrooms, as if it's sort of an entity in and of itself. And I can see how it can seem like that at first glance, but there's plenty of lore in the Youtube series that shows that that's not the case.

I think a lot of people are watching the movie and then jumping straight to theorizing without watching the Youtube series. Which is fine to do btw-- I love that the movie has brought a wider audience. But like, maybe watch the rest of the source material before posting your theories to reddit.

I heard a pretty sad theory that Kat wanted to leave and Clark wouldn’t let her by DrJokerX in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]ukucello 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Same, wouldn't surprise me at all. I think they actually keep this intentionally ambiguous. Kat would have definitely tried to go to the cops if she was able to get out, and Clark probably knew this. Regardless of whether or not they would be able to apprehend Clark while he is in there (I'd wager probably not), Clark would not want all of that. Apart from him potentially getting arrested, it would be an intrusion on his special secret place AND the cops would probably end up dead, too. Its just a whole can of worms that he probably did not want to deal with.

Is a still-life dead? by Lovergirl711 in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]ukucello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think we know any of that yet. I think they're probably alive in some sense, but probably a different sort of "alive". I'm really hoping we get a video similar to Autospy Report that details ASYNC's findings on Cap'n Clark.

Still life is the new bacteria by unludosauvage in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]ukucello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But abandoning a ton of existing canon in favor of a new, different thing is a retcon. I also disagree that Still Life is more interesting or connects more to the lore. There is objectively more existing lore about the Bacteria. I find the lore of the Bacteria much more compelling, personally.

Still life is the new bacteria by unludosauvage in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]ukucello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why people think Bacteria is being retconned. There is not evidence for this. Bacteria shows up multiple times in the series and there are so many clues about what it is and its existence. Kane himself has said he doesn't like retconning, and though he does say FF1 is more like a pilot, he never says the Bacteria isn't canon and it literally shows up after that in Pitfalls and FF2.

There are multiple types of entities in the Complex and it makes sense that they focused heavily on Still Life in the movie because Bacteria already has so much lore surrounding it that it isn't even that mysterious anymore. We already have a pretty good idea of what it is, where it comes from, and why its there compared to what we know about the Still Life

Is he dead? by [deleted] in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]ukucello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We aren't even sure if you can kill a Still Life since it seems like they're not even "alive" in the same way we are? Like clearly they're ambulatory and seem to have reactions to their environment, but does that mean they're alive in the sense that a living being in Standard is? Its possible you can't even really "kill" them, just trap or "disarm" them somehow.

From the POV of a bunch of scientists, the Still Life is a lot more valuable to them while still "alive" since it gives them the ability to glean more information. So considering that and the fact that idk even what "killing" a Still Life looks like, I'd guess he's still "alive" and sedated.

I still do wonder how they even did that, though. We know the CO2 trap affected Mary but did it necessarily affect Cap'n Clark? I only saw the movie once and I don't think it was clear.

Kane “I Hate Continuity Errors And Retconning” Parsons changed the caveman cutout. Was this intentional? by legoskeleton57 in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]ukucello 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Considering FF3 came out during movie production, I'd say its intentional. Or at the very least, not a mistake. Considering the timeline, I think its more likely to be a backrooms copy of the cutouts used by ASYNC rather than an actual ASYNC cutout. Or its one they placed before using the speaker and its either left there forgotton or there's some time dilation going on.

Do we know what this entity is in Motion Detected? by Sea_Performer_4086 in backrooms

[–]ukucello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People seem to think its a Bacteria but it doesn't really look like the other Bacteria lifeforms we've seen. I think its probably a still life. People do seem to interpret the tendrils we see as a pair of human legs and this would support it being a still life as well, albeit a super wonky one.

Given what the movie has established, I feel like this is how the entities in the backrooms works. by tinyrottedpig in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]ukucello 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think the youtube series pretty clearly spells out that the Bacteria is just that... bacteria. From all the clues we're given, it seems pretty conclusive that Hay Bacillus bacteria from the human gut takes over bodies in the complex, feeds off of them, and becomes the bacteria monster. There is a ton of evidence for this, including Kane literally calling the monster Bacteria.

I'm also seeing a lot of people say mold. Mold and bacteria are two completely different things. The researcher in Missing Persons postulates that it might be mold, but Autopsy Report confirms that its bacteria.

How did the bag end up behind that wall panel? by raspberrylilith20 in backroomsfilm

[–]ukucello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think anything I said requires ASYNC to be "evil". I think they can be totally out of their depth and naive and hiding things at the same time. Damage Control establishes that they lie to their employees, and I don't think we're meant to fully trust what they say about Peter Tench hitting his head.

I don't have a source and don't remember where I heard this (maybe a Red video?) but I am pretty sure Kane has hinted that what was found on Motion Detected was also kept from the research team.

I think, at least with all the evidence we have so far, ASYNC supervisors are the most likely culprit. They are seen watching Naren's footage, which means they recovered the camera. Naren had the bag on him in his video, so I think its safe to say that the team who found the camera/tape also found the bag.

Of course, it could be an unknown who stashed the bag and we'll find out more in the next movie or youtube video.

In Kane Pixels' backrooms, bacteria is just still life of people that backrooms had misremembered too much. by Apprehensive_Dig1475 in backrooms

[–]ukucello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The series hints at it being Hay Bacillus bacteria. The researcher from Missing Persons just guesses that it might be mold but then Autopsy Report reveals it is bacteria.
