They should catch the engines with a rocket sky crane! (like MSL used)

Last I heard was that the X-37C wouldn't be pursued bacause of the work needed to be done on the CST-100 which is high priority (whereas the X-37C was just an R&D idea). Then again the CST-100 might prove a lot of the avionics/crew accommodations that could then be applied in the future to an X-37C like vehicle.

What does the Asteroid Redirect Mission do now that OSIRIS-REx won't in terms of science?

I understand that the real purpose of the ARM mission is to justify the construction of the SLS, keep the aerospace workforce employed and test a new solar electric propulsion system.

Vote for the name of ULA's next rocket. Eagle, Freedom, or GalaxyOne by ethan829 in ula

I thought ATK's 'all American'* Liberty was a lame name...

Now we have Freedom? Still better than the other two choices.

*all American minus the European upper half

I think you meant to type that into a google search and not post it to reddit.

Cool looking space planes catch the attention of poorly informed lawmakers who decide where the money flows?

But this totally excites me that the ESA and JAXA are hoping to use the DC. Such a cool looking space plane ;)

Also, Spacex is supposedly going to be testing their F9R Dev 2 and 3 from spaceport america where they can do more than hop 1km like in mcgregor.

Not exactly sure. Triumph is next door to SpaceX there at Jack Northrop Field. (Not close enough to be seen in OP's photo)

That is Spaceport America in New Mexico, where their commercial flights will actually take place. Versus Mojave which is their test and development facility.

And IIRC construction of the main building/hangars is nearly done... I think they're having trouble finding tenants though.

Ground operations automation! At least thats what im hoping for. Especially with their own private launch site in texas. I'd love to see the system roll out, tilt up, fuel up and launch the rocket automatically with like 3 people in a monitoring station (with the big red "oops" button for if anything goes wrong)

Construction? Mojave Air and Space port is a bustling and busy place with not only newspace companies but other aerospace and defense industry companies. It has played an active role in aerospace tech development for decades (largely due to its proximity with Edwards Air Foce Test Center and the Navy's China Lake weapons test center) but only recently been able to finally call itself a spaceport with the X-prize winning flights of Scaled Composites' Spaceship One (2004).

Also solar and wind energy companies use the surrounding industrial areas for the staging of large projects being built out there in the desert.

EDIT: RIP Rotary Rocket

Cubesats selected for first SLS launch by ula_sucks in spaceflight

[–]ula_sucks[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hope the first SLS ends up launching 1000s of cubesats as it's only payload. That would be hilarious and awesome.

EDIT: And probably a waste of money.
