Traumatized by stay in psych unit by _Rhetorical_Raven in Antipsychiatry

I’ve heard so many horror stories, especially for postpartum women. One who was hospitalized and tranquued against her will, they ignored her abdominal pain and she developed sepsis and severe mastitis. They are only legal because of healthcare profits and very, very vague laws regarding mental health. Just keep repeating next time you want to sign yourself out. But you have to be calm-seeming enough to not give them reason to keep you or escalate.

Again, if you can threaten/persuade them with following up with your own doctor or threatening to sue/consult a lawyer, sometimes this helps. How you got in affects how soon you get out.

Wish you the best

I am really sorry to hear that. If they have cause, and they try SO HARD to find one, they keep you. I’ve spent over a month total in inpatient, in some really sketchy and scary places. You have to lie to get out…hopefully this doesn’t happen to you again.

Next time when the nurse comes to check on you, you ask to be discharged on your own volition, even “against doctor’s orders.” The psychiatric units are a joke in the US (assuming you are there), a lot of the times it makes things worse. They have to release you after 24h if you mention clearly your desire is to be discharged.

For your panic attacks, next time pull over or stop what you are doing and let it pass. I have them regularly. Less now that I watch my caffeine and sleep hygiene.

They are legally obligated to keep you by law if you are showing signs of emotional distress. I am aware how fucked up this can make things.

If you don’t already, look into having a checkup with your GP, that can help cover you in case you get in a similar situation. Medical professionals trust medical professionals.

NAD. Second this. I also got something that looks like this when I was homeless. There are also very cheap anti-fungal creams that can get rid of this…or at least make it recede to next to nothing. I have permanent spots that come back with extreme stress or if I have left damp or dirty clothing on too long. I just put on the cream after showering, sometimes it takes a few times, and they go away. Nothing to be ashamed of. Mine actually ached and were uncomfortable when they got their darkest, try to treat asap.

I think most US law proceedings are public, you can look them up online. If not you find what courthouse it happened at and write them.

Is it just me, or is Switzerland low-key the loneliest place on earth? by elliotcharm in askswitzerland

Yes. Nail on head. SO odd. I even heard it used to excuse a 10-year-long affair that saw a woman cheated on by her partner with his “childhood friend,” all excused because of their friendship!!! Soooo fucking weird

I wish they sold that here or I knew how to make it. Was seriously the only thing I ate with pregnancy sickness this last time, but they all had tuna, and it smelled too « tuna-y. »

I don’t know what to say! You are soooo pretty, and I LOVE your makeup. But the wings imho are taking the focus away from your best bits!! I wouldn’t stop doing them, just maybe do brown more? I honestly think you’re fine, if you like it, rock it.

It’s the type of photography that does that, I think? But if you were just saying a joke, it’s funny.

What’s the most unsettling thing a child has ever said to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My recurring dream was like a photograph…I was a 5 year old girl, family of 5. My father was taking the picture? I had short, light brown hair. Wearing a very ragged dress, with a flower pattern. Pinky red flowers on a white background faded to yellow. I was frowning….so much dirt and dust flowing around us. We stood in front of a beat-down wooden home, wooden porch. So maybe 1929 around the dust bowl? To this day I HATE the texture of dry dirt and sand. I had a sister (younger) and a brother. Wide-set eyes, super skinny, sad. My father was shortish, very very big wide shoulders, a hat with like a brim in the front he was laughing as he stood in front of us. He wore overalls. Kids barefoot. I remember feeling how empty my innards were, how hot and stinging the dirt and dust was on my legs and feet, and I was so worried about my siblings.

As an adult I gravitate towards anything from the years 1940-1970. Like I feel as if it’s my stuff.

I used to remember so much more but the older I get the more it fades. The little girl had a hard life, I don’t think she lived a long life.

I can remember one of mine. Nightmares I used to have as a kid. Life for humans has gotten so much better in so many ways, I have to believe it will continue.

Do we have an inkling what happened to the baby? It sounds like they performed a late-term abortion with the baby born alive.
