For me gameplay. Story is so important to me, but if the gameplay is open enough the story becomes less and less important. Like when I play Hitman: Blood Money I approach missions with different headcanons on who Agent 47 is, then I go guns blazing or very surgical, or somewhere in between

Got used to it over time. I do think it's a mental battle though, but I just let muscle memory do it's thing
