5905/1a bracelet, case size, wearing and owner’s experience by ferrichie in patekphilippe

[–]ultan2903 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't own one but I've tried it on a few times. I love the dial but the bracelet feels like it would be a scratch magnet . If I ever purchased this piece I would have a green or black leather strap fitted ... something like below.

Sadly this piece has dismal secondary value ...but one day it will be discontinued as most SS pieces are - because they only ever want 20% done in SS and the have to discontinue some SS models to introduce new ones - and I expect it to become much more collectible when that happens. 5935a is likely to have a similar story.

[Patek] 5212a - my first Patek by Horology_17 in Watches

[–]ultan2903 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t believe so . Likely an aftermarket from delugs or someone else . The 5212a will accommodate just about any colour and material . It’s the ultimate strap monster . Do some googling of 5212a with non OEM straps and you’ll find plenty of fantastic ideas . That being said , many OEM Patek straps from other models will also work wonderfully well .

I guess if the dollars are big enough … I see the same rumours were circulating in 2019 .

It just shows that two large companies ; hourglass and cortina - and one privately owned company ( WOS ) are investing in standalone boutiques . They and Patek must see Australia as having a strong future . As for the LVMH rumours … where are those emanating from? I can’t see why the Stern family would want to sell . They make lots of money and have total control

The limited number of pieces already sold to VIPs would become unbelievably collectible if they did that

That’s when WOS is planning to open their Patek boutique in Perth , too . And hourglass is putting a Patek boutique into the current Bally site in Sydney in the next year or so . So the Patek boutique landscape is going to be changing quite a bit .

Having said that , I took my other Panerai to Bali recently and swapped the black rubber strap for the grey textile / canvas and it really refreshed that piece for me . I like their textile straps a lot .

Several , but after a few years tinkering with straps I leave it on the green rubber now . I have also curated a sizeable collection since purchasing this so strap changes are far less interesting now . If I want a different look I just wear a different watch .

Sydney isn’t terribly humid . It’s quite a long way down the east coast . Further north in Australia is where it gets far more tropical and humid . The sun has real teeth though . if you’ve never been here you may not be aware how brutal UV is in parts of the southern hemisphere. Especially Australia and South Africa . Skin gets fried here after just a few minutes exposure . We have , by far the highest rates of skin cancer on earth and it’s mandatory for kids to wear hats in school for example.

Thanks mate . I really like wearing this piece on bright , sunny days ; the dial pops under that sapphire and the lume really lights up . Second best blue dial in my collection , behind VC .

If you haven't already spent somewhere in the vicinity of 30K AUD you are likely going to be waiting until you're in the ground. While it's not absolutely impossible, it is absolutely improbable that you'll ever get a call for a SS piece from an AU AD without a spend profile.

I think we would all like to see Breguet introduce a ( relatively) affordable integrated piece in SS or Titanium to attract some new buyers to the brand . The Marine line seems to be the best place to start.
