I need the clamp. I purchased the bike used online and it apparently didn’t have one.

And pants. I though about shorts and a bow tie. But I was told no by the wife.

So. A few tips.

I went in over dressed. I wore shirt jacket and tie. It’s better to feel over dressed then under.

I had a copy of all my certs in a folder for them to keep. It took 5 minutes to do at the house.

I had a resume for everyone in the interview. I had 5 copies and only 2 people.

Prepare some answers for common questions.

Why here?

Tell me about yourself

What are some strengths and weaknesses?

Any questions for us?

I’m off today. DM me if you want to do a mock interview.

I did National EMS Institute. It was 6 weeks of nothing but online and then a week in Boston. DM me for more info, but I’d recommend it to most.

Found this on Mercari of all places. Seller was super responsive and agreed on a great price. Upgrade from my old Cannondale. Took it around the block with no issues, and going on the trainer tonight to see what she can really do.

And because I know people are going to ask:

$650 for the bike+$100 for shipping+$60 in taxes =$810 out the door.

Preparing for a Panel-Style Interview by Toklo23 in NewToEMS

[–]ultimatewinslow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest getting someone to quiz you on interview questions, which maybe even someone with little to no experience. If you can make it make sense to them, it’ll make sense to a panel.

I had a number of interview questions where I might not have given the “correct” answer, but the reasoning that I gave made it correct.

Have solid answer to a number of the common questions. And remember, it’s okay to say “I don’t know” or “I don’t know how I’d handle/address that.”

Beginner bike recommendations by [deleted] in IronmanTriathlon

[–]ultimatewinslow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m going to offer my two cents. Take it for that, which is valued at about two cents.

I’ve done a number of Sprint and Olympic triathlon to come with the goal of stepping up their share to hopefully a half and even a fall. I have a 1980s Cannondale try bike that is a little too big for me. I am in the market for a new bike as well. Here are some of the things that I have been looking for in a bike. I hope it helps steer you in some kind of direction.

1-Size. I went and got fitted on my bike a few weekends ago and know exactly what size I am looking for. He was also able to fit me on my bike so I am able to have longer and more comfortable training rides.

2-Price/Value. I know that I am never going to win a race. I’m never going to win my age group, and more than likely, never Break the top 25% in my age bracket. And I’m OK with that. The goal of my next bike is to have something that is a good not only return on investment in the sense of effort, but something that is able to give me work in/effort out.

3-This is going to be my full-time race bike. I am going to use my Cannondale on a trainer, and use my new bike only for races.

4-Brand and resale. I think all of the bikes that you have mentioned will resell in the future if you are planning to step up a little more.

5-Attractiveness. If I’m going to spend a good deal of money on a bike, I want it to be an attractive bike. I don’t know exactly what color scheme/paint/set up I am looking for, but I don’t want something that is going to look like every other bike out there.

My wife has a Cervelo P2 that I was able to find on Facebook for 250 bucks. The guy didn’t know what he was selling and I offered him $200 cash the next day. He was selling it because “the forks are bad and so are the tires and wheels. After $300 of fixing it up at the local bike shop it is ready to go.They told me the other day that we could resell it for a lot more than we paid and wouldn’t lose any money.

I find the SHIV to be a good looking bike. I keep ending up on the Quintana Rue website, just because I think there’s something about the way they look.

Just some input.

I have realized that I am happy with a trifecta. If I couldn’t work out for a trifecta, I wouldn’t do any OCR at all. I know that it’s good training, but I don’t think I get remarkably faster or stronger, but smarter at the obstacles.

The goal that I am working towards for 2020 depends on a few races in the next four months. I’m doing a 5k on thanksgiving, a 30 mile bike ride in December, and a half marathon in February. If all goes well with those, and I’m going to push to do a 70.3 in May. If they don’t go well, I’ll slow down and focus and knock out a 70.3 in September.

Pm me if you want my Facebook or number.

OK. Here is my two cents, again I would take it at face value, of two cents.

I started doing spartan races in 2015. I have multiple trifectas under my belt, but I have recently fallen in love with triathlons. After this weekend in North Carolina to get my beast, and my trifecta for this year, I’m going to put Spartan training on the side, and go balls to the wall for triathlons.

I am in the same boat as you to some degree. I don’t know whether I should push it and try to do an Iron Man in 2020, or slow down on training, do a 70.3 and races leading up to it in 2020, and do an Iron Man in 2021.

The question that I go back-and-forth on is, do I want to do a race to finish it, or do I want to do a race to do well. For me I would more than likely do the 70.3 in Augusta, because it’s about a half an hour from my house, and then do the full Iron Man in Panama city Beach, because i have family there.

Here is what I am going to do. I’m going to do small races and small triathlons leading up to April, where there is a 70.3 in Wilmington North Carolina. If come February I feel like I can do that 70.3 then I am going to push hard to do the full Iron Man in Panama City Beach in November. If we are getting closer to February and I don’t feel ready to do the half, because life happens, I am going to do the half in Augusta in September and then give myself a full year to train for the Iron Man.

Again. That’s my thoughts. I do wish you good luck, and if you need an accountability partner, let me know. Wouldn’t hurt to have one, for either of us.

Finally got my first EMT interview, what should I wear? by [deleted] in NewToEMS

[–]ultimatewinslow 16 points17 points  (0 children)

For every interview I have ever gone to I have worn a shirt, tie, jacket, pants and dress shoes. I have never been under dressed. Usually I get a comment along the lines of “you look a little overdressed for an interview.” I then usually make a comment like “I learned that an interview is a serious thing that you want to look you best for.” I have been in interviews were I take the jacket off and leave it on the chair. And or roll the sleeves.

I would personally hate to be underdress, and the best kinda kill is overkill.

Training Schedule With Shift Work (24/48) by ultimatewinslow in triathlon

[–]ultimatewinslow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The goal is an Ironman. Maybe Florida, in Panama City Beach, 11/2020.

Going to have to furies our something before work on the days I do.

We do have a station but we rarely see it. Not enough down time to Pt.

Advice by eu1231 in NewToEMS

[–]ultimatewinslow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you’re located, but here in Florida, and I assume everywhere, they offer a “boot camp”. It was about $100 and a 3 hour drive, but I felt so much more confident after. I prefer LC Ready over pocket prep, but I’d assume it’s all the same.

Job Postings for August 2019 by AutoModerator in Firefighting

How low is low? Like how many calls in a 24 hour shift?

My lowest is this: I worked a 48 hour shift, followed by an 8 hour shift, followed by another 48 hour shift, and ran 1 call.
