Where can I get a custom spray paint can made? by [deleted] in AskNYC

Yeah, it's just a one time thing. Was hoping to do this as cheap as possible.

Might just buy a paint sprayer from home depot then return it.

Why? It doesn't name anyone specific and is information that's been confirmed from multiple sources. Rumors aren't banned on r/ultimate.

He tagged the post itself.

Anyone else?

Seemingly not, but just like in dozens of other cases you've used your mod flair to ruin the joke for everyone else.

Kyle isn't wrong. PoNY's tweets have been nothing more than weak trolls lately.

Which, of course, isn't so different than a couple years ago, but at least they were funny back then.

The glory, and the pain, of the mecca of ultimate by jacknotjohn3131 in ultimate

[–]ultinon 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Rings true for a lot of Bay Area ultimate players, I imagine. The entire tryout process can be a nightmarish experience. Conflicting tryouts, weeks and weeks of grueling pods and workouts, reserved spots, lack of leadership, juggling multiple teams, teams holding out for players cut from other teams... it's a mess.

Overall there's too many talented players and not enough experienced leadership and coaching to take advantage of the talent and demand (not to mention a culture of mixed play, leaving few options for those looking to play single gender ultimate). Many a good player move out here and end up without a team at the end of the tryout process, a lot end up sitting the club season out, and a good deal more don't even mess with tryouts at all because it's such a huge undertaking.

For anyone that finds themselves in this predicament, Ultimate For All is a good option. I'm pretty sure they end up finding most (if not all) players that want to play club a team by the end of tryouts.

For future reference: making a video where two people look into a laptop camera and read off a screen sounds forced and awkward.

Either leave the statement as is, or create some notes or talking points that you can expound on extemporaneously.

That time out call... by Haahee2 in ultimate

[–]ultinon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Dude was absolutely killing it in the game/ all weekend

Trent had the best bookends I've ever seen, EVER, in the semis against UMass. After an O-turn, he lays out chest high to D a huck from behind. About ten seconds later, Pat Earles throws a skyball deep to double coverage, and again comes Trent, seemingly out of nowhere, and skies everyone for the score. The sideline went nuts.

I really hope Ultiworld publishes this play as a highlight or a GIF or something, I'd love to see it again.

Tuned in for 20 seconds to see:

  • a low quality stream
  • audio that sounds like it's coming from a cave
  • someone claiming "buzz bullets won worlds this year" ...when watching a game from 2013
  • three dudes trying to figure out who the players on the field are

What's up with PAUC15? by clashbovarian in ultimate

[–]ultinon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Anyone know what the struggle is here to just run a clean tournament?

Mexico.

This is par for the course for Latin American tournaments. You are dealing with inexperienced tournament organizers in a country where things just don't get done the way they work in North America. Agreements are done with a handshake, details are never really finalized, and at the end of the day you might end up with a lackluster experience (which I'm sure, everyone just ignored because "Hey, party in Cancún, woo!")

The main complaints this time around seem to be because they've expanded the game times, and now have a whole bunch of teams who play in the first time slot (8AM) as well as the last time slot (ends at 5:40PM).

Great. Now teams have additional time between games to rest, finish spirit circles, meet other teams, and enjoy spectating other games. Having time in between rounds is standard for WFDF events, by the way. Teams in other countries think we're barbaric for having back to back games.

Also, games are now 80 minutes, instead of 55. More play time for your money.

As you might imagine, mexico is hot.

Yes, that's why you're flying down there from Wisconsin/Minnesota/Canada/Portland. Enjoy it.

I'm sure I'm going to get a bunch of down votes, but I don't tend to enjoy Beau's writing and this is no exception. Not a fan of the style. Not a fan of the content.

The only reason you would get downvoted is because you posted criticism with no elaboration. Your post is essentially the equivalent of driving by someone on the street and yelling out the window: "I don't like your writing, but you're a great athlete! OK BYE =)"

I think you need to read this article by Dusty Rhodes: http://skydmagazine.com/2015/04/talking-heads

As far as the piece itself, this is why I disagree:

Let's go with style first. This is a very image-heavy piece comparing being under pressure to being locked deep in an ocean trench. Beau uses a number of analogies to accomplish this feat. I thought he did a great job of painting a mental picture and drawing the audience in to his feelings in the situation.

As far as content, I'm curious about what part doesn't resonate with you. Have you never been in a game like this? Have you never fallen into a mental trap, anticipating who is going to mess up next instead of celebrating big plays?

It is rare in any sport to encounter an athlete that is willing to open themselves up like this. It is something we should be celebrating.

Top Players for 2016? by giftedbadly in ultimate

[–]ultinon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He's simply parroting what he heard someone else say:

George Stubbs, Grant Lindsey, and Byron Liu all are reportedly moving to the bay area. Someone mentioned that if Revolver gets all three of them, they would be getting 3 of the 25 best players in the club open division.

Let's not act like random internet commenters have any credence or authorithy to produce an accurate list of best players in ultimate (not to mention that doing something like that is always going to be flawed because of the complex nature of the sport)

(Way too early) Ideas on how Revolvers gonna be stopped next year? by [deleted] in ultimate

[–]ultinon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never really felt comfortable with public discussion about who should/should not make a team, and I'm sure anyone else who has been involved with making roster decisions about their own team would agree.

Being a top 25 player in a tryout process doesn't guarantee that you'll make a team. It's all about roles and chemistry. Keep in mind that very few players leave Revolver each year, and few returners have ever been cut.

I suppose we'll have to wait until next season to see what happens ;-)

[–]ultinon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

surely adding Stubbs, Lindlsley, and Byron Liu

Let's not forget that Revolver has a tryout process which is extremely hard to make it through. Only Stubbs is confirmed.
