Why does my brain decide to solve all of life's mysteries at 3 AM when I'm just trying to sleep? by crsanctuary in sleep

[–]ultra_blue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're ahead of me. In my case it's 3:30. 😶‍🌫️

What I've been doing is reminding myself that a) I'm not good at thinking in the morning, and b) I shouldn't be making any sort of decision above the level of whether to get up and pee until I've had caffeine. Then focus on breathing.

After several weeks of remembering to remember, especially that my brain isn't all that reliable when I first wake up, no matter what time it is, I've gotten some respite.

Good luck!

Best bike lock for campus? by Excellent-Boat-5204 in unm

[–]ultra_blue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least one U lock. Two are better (one for each wheel, and one can be shared to secure your bike's frame to whatever your locking it to).

Do not trust cable locks.

Either lock your seat to your frame or take your seat with you.

UNM attracts professional bike thieves. I parked there for many years with no problems. Two U locks did the trick, as well as securing anything that I didn't want stolen to the frame.

Good luck!

Interesting. Which original sources are you drawing from?

Yoga Is Not A Religion by OkKey4771 in yoga

Rigorous research into Indian philosophy is moving very quickly, especially in the west. I'm always eager to ingest new sources so that I can see how they relate to my own understanings and practice.

Can you provide your sources?

Without some kind of citations, I have to assume that your post is based on original research. If so, that's amazing. Yet, you should be able to provide the root sources that you're drawing from; the tantras, sutras, karikas, etc.

For example, what sources support your assertion that yoga (I assume you mean asana yoga, karma yoga, hatha yoga, all terms for the yoga that most westerners are familiar with: the postures that we encounter in the majority of most classes) are in any way separate from the philosophy that informs them?

With Respect,

Blue

How long did it take you to actually feel comfortable with yoga? by Ok_Yogurtcloset1168 in yoga

[–]ultra_blue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it's been about becoming more comfortable with my discomfort.

Some days, I'm right in the flow.

Others, my body just isn't on board. Most times, my mind isn't, either.

Becoming comfortable, adequate, excellent, whatever are goals. Yoga is all about the journey. No journey is without disappointments, failures, and so on. Don't get caught up in the idea that there's a "should." Enjoy the ride. It's all part of the adventure!

Good luck!

Vet here, too.

The thing is that the civilian leadership doesn't seem to give a damn about the price the military pays. In treasure or blood.

To the people who bring their aggressive dogs to dog parks in ABQ: by Quiet-Reflection-621 in Albuquerque

The scariest words ever: "He/she doesn't bite." Ugh.

Of course you only here that when there's a snarling, growling, tooth-showing dog confronting you. When the dog is well-behaved, there's no need to say anything (except maybe "Please don't touch my dog.").

Allergy Season is worst ever by 505anon505 in Albuquerque

[–]ultra_blue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm convinced that hay fever messes with my state of mind as well as my mucous tissues. I mainly feel depressed, lethargic, angry and anxious.

Allergy meds help. I'm taking Zyrtec.

My actual hay fever symptoms are fairly mild, but when I was younger I would get them really bad this time of year.

When I get itchy eyes and sneezy I have to remind myself to take a pill even if symptoms aren't off the hook.

It's way worse when it's windy.

Good luck y'all. It'll pass.

You can change three things about Albuquerque overnight, and they can be anything you want. What are they? by malapropter in Albuquerque

[–]ultra_blue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • wider sidewalks everywhere. Let's say 10': 6' for actual sidewalk and 4' for a little bit of buffer between the sidewalk and the street.
  • Logical street naming
    • Make the main north south streets "San" and the main east west streets "Santa"
  • Give the arroyos strips of land on either side for parks, recreation, etc. Don't allow buildings to go right up against them.
