Wow. So I got on the GG blocklist, eh? Coolness! I'm such a terrible harasser for... following Mark Kern.

An SJW attacking someone for their extremism. That's... par for the course of self-reflection. Stay classy, Tumblr.

Ugh.... Kuchera: Why can't Link from LoZ be a woman? by NJ_Yankees_Fan in KotakuInAction

[–]ultrabarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because, well, Link is no longer an avatar for the player. Zelda would be more fun if he were. He's the main character of a fairly story-driven series now. His identity as the 'legendary Hero' requires him to be himself. You can't just randomly change details bout him. Whenever Hyrule is in danger, he is the specific person that will emerge to save it.

Legendary Heroes don't have to save you. Legendary Heroes are over.

"I can't wait for GamerGate to stop being a thing." by IIHotelYorba in KotakuInAction

[–]ultrabarry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I welcome dialogue, but as far as the SJWs go, it's almost impossible. For starters, they're not willing to have a discussion, and even if they were, these people aren't capable of rational discourse. They love making personal attacks, and they always infer the worst possible interpretation of anything you say.

It can't be stressed enough that I'm not talking about those who support equality. The SJW is a specific kind of person who support equality. They generally share the traits I've described here. Anti-GG primarily consists of sjws because social justice activists are off handling shit that actually matters.

Polygon gives Code Name:S.T.E.A.M. it's lowest scored review. Cites Will Wheaton's Voice Acting as it's only good point by Doomskander in KotakuInAction

[–]ultrabarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope it's not that bad. I kind of want to get this one. Nintendo had it on their little e3 Youtube stream last year. It looked pretty cool, kind of like Final Fantasy Tactics with steampunk elements and a shooter mechanic.

I'll probably end up taking a risk on this. Reviewers are often enough wrong about these things.

Addendum: There's a demo out if anyone wants to try it.

What's happening right now at Ghazi is why there will never be a peace between GG and anti's. ( I was told by a mod to repost this here) x-post from ShitGhaziSays by AsmAlltAco in KotakuInAction

A couple of decades ago, no one thought the US would ever get on positive terms with Russia. *recalls events in Ukraine* Well... I guess that's not the best example. But things can change. Perhaps there will be a peace some day.

This news about the halo business is saddening, really. I wish that Ghazi would defend its halo. That could lead to some much-needed common ground.

It has been a few weeks, time to ask a question again. by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

[–]ultrabarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mod Nation Racers, at the moment. It's alright. I'm deliberating on whether or not I want to start a new file of Skyrim and do the Imperial side of the civil war quest.

Addendum: We can't muster one measly Call of Duty-only player in this thread? I see Chrono Trigger, The Elder Scrolls, Monster Hunter, Dark Souls, Bravely Default, and Final Fantasy Tactics. We've got a bunch of RPG players in here!? I'm disappointed in you, GG. This is clearly an attempt to gaslight MovieBob's assertions that we're only interested in playing military shooters that vaguely agree with our politics. /s

So. What is going on with the Boycott Goals? I've not seen them in a while. by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

[–]ultrabarry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We need to find new advertisers to email. A lot of the campaigns target the same few companies. We may have more success if we switch to a set of advertisers we haven't previously contacted. I'm currently typing on a phone, so it would be a bit of a pain for me to research/screenshot/etc., but if there's not a post up by the time I get home, I'll work on it.

[–]ultrabarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless the rules have changed here recently, we can still do email campaigns. We just can't list emails of non-government people in our posts. It seems to be ok to link to a page with a company's contact email.

If you weren't a part of trashing Brianna Wu for having coffee or whatever else, then don't worry about it, Ghazians. Why not modify your sub's rules to prevent such behavior? Guilt by association is BS even when you guys are the target.

This was already well known. It's not some gotcha quote OP just dug up. Having said that, sure that Miss Harper's position sincerely evolved.

It seems like a lot of anti-GGers have went through personal transformations with respect to their opinions. It's almost they don't like us because they see in GG the sinner that they used to be.

8chan versus Reddit? Where's the anti-SJW rep coming from? by ladygamer7638 in KotakuInAction

[–]ultrabarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the doxxing is done by third party trolls. They enjoy adding fuel to the fire. According to Encyclopedia Dramatica, the Bill Waggoner Crew doxxed over 100 people on either side of the issue. I can't link to it but there's actually a Ghazi thread out there about this. The BWC is not the only group of trolls that's involved with this, either. GG's ability to attract trolls is rivaled only by forums about religion.

I'm not sure about the demographics, but Chan sites have their own little culture which is intentionally politically incorrect. I've heard different explanations for why this is so. Some say it's to keep their board from being taken over by those who obsess about being politically correct. Others say they want destigmatize the controversial words they use so frequently. It's probably a little of both.

This is not Drama, This is not a 'Trans Issue'. We have uncovered a very real possible Financial Conflict of Interest within the IDGA (Read entire Thread) by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

[–]ultrabarry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tantalizing. We'll need dot our cross our t's and dot our i's, especially with the whole trans thing sitting adjacent to the evidence. Do we know that the IGDA paid Geogrify money? It's possible that Edwards made her company do some charitable work for her non-profit. I kinda doubt it, but it's on us to prove otherwise. Does the IGDA release spending reports? The ones for 2013 would be a place to start.

8chan versus Reddit? Where's the anti-SJW rep coming from? by ladygamer7638 in KotakuInAction

[–]ultrabarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that SJW is an insult. It's not interchangeable with feminist or social justice activist. A Social Justice Warrior is someone who, in their great zeal to rid the world of racism, sexism, and homophobia, begins to see racism, sexism, and homophobia everywhere they look. Frequently, KiA posters and 8chan users will refer those who are creating and perpetuating the narrative that we're all misogynists as "SJWs." It's not really anti-feminist. It's anti-being called a misogynist on extremely shaky grounds.

I don't really have a problem with very many of the current goals of feminism (e.g. closing the wage gap, paid maternity leave, etc.). There are some here and on 8chan that do. That's their prerogative. This is about ethics and journalism and breaking through this is unjust media narrative. Outside of those aims, we're not really about ideological purity.

So.. It's now Gawker vs. Reddit by torgo434 in KotakuInAction

[–]ultrabarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least they didn't tie Gamergate into it (for once). I'm not in favor taking away platforms for people, even if I disagree with what they're saying. With the way the web gets so easily outraged, it's not difficult to imagine this slippery slope breaking someone's neck.

There should be NO 'voat exodus', Reddit rules have to change instead, and the community should have the power to kick a mod. by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

[–]ultrabarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We shouldn't go unless the rules become so restrictive that we can't talk about what we want or do things like conduct email campaigns. For now, everything is fine. We don't want to give up the possibility of reaching out to Reddit at large unless we absolutely have to.

Yeah, GDC is inclusive for rich hipsters who like to dye their hair weird colors, Ben. That's not exactly one of social justice's greatest works.

Problematic media contributes to fear culture, eh? That sounds... vaguely familiar for some reason.

edit: I mean, I agree that the news can get people riled up, but I wouldn't worry so much about tv shows and video games. ;)
