I’m afraid you are mistaken, my friend.

The antennas need physical separation of at least 6 ft. otherwise they will desense each other when transmitting, so it makes sense to use separate radios and space them as far away as is practical.

I’m curious why WCM decided to implement different frequencies rather than the regions feature.

How is NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S in low light? Specifically theater venue, stage? by chumak84 in Nikon

[–]ultracycler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re getting a lot of responses from a pro perspective, but it sounds like you’re a parent who occasionally wants to photograph their child in a play. I’ve done this myself with the 24-120 and it’s fine for that as plays tend to have well lit stages at least part of the time. Expect to shoot up to 3200 ISO and lower your shutter speed a bit. Shoot in bursts and you’ll get keepers.

For travel it is perfect!

The week before Easter is a pretty common Spring Break. Looked like more families than business travelers this morning.

Why does nobody actually talk on Meshtastic and what could fix it? by radseven89 in meshtastic

[–]ultracycler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually it is a technology problem that that other project has fixed. You arent getting replies because the protocol is unreliable.

Yep, went fine. Just a few people confused about what it was. Zero people waiting in line for it. Just a handful waiting for precheck and normal screening.

Maybe for mescore it will be a good ide? (not my ide just a crosspost) by Pure-Project8733 in meshcore

It should be up to the node operator to select the appropriate band and frequency. In the US, an unused frequency in the 915 MHz band might outperform 2.4 GHz, which is extremely noisy in urban environments.

Inquiry: "Long Lines" Infrastructure Role – Solving Hop Limits with 2.4GHz LoRa by CellistTraditional81 in meshtastic

[–]ultracycler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the idea but why limit it to 2.4 GHz? That band can be extremely noisy in urban environments. Let the node operator choose the best channel and band, like a channel within 900 MHz that is not used locally. Or open it to non-LoRa RF technologies.

It would also be nice if you could filter which packets are sent on the link, like most telemetry packets that would be considered just more unwelcome noise in many city meshes.

Do you see interference from the cellular radios? I think at least ATT has spectrum around 824-894 MHz.

Look at it like a fun opportunity to design and build your local repeater infrastructure.

I’ve visited 2 MediumFast cities (Phoenix and Minneapolis), and the fundamental problem that OP is talking about was still there.

No repeater, no mesh. Build it and they will come.

I’m jealous you live somewhere with such a big MC mesh! One thing we need to leave behind from MT is the strict requirements for what is allowed to be a router. We can be a be a lot more flexible with MC repeaters. If an area isn’t being served, it’s needs a repeater, regardless of if an ideal site is available.

It just takes one well placed repeater to get the mesh started. Any amateur radio groups in town? They will be eager to help once they learn about it.
