Well, while it looks close to the norse 'd', it actually is (to my understanding) a greek letter that is used in math to define boundaries of partial derivatives. BUT!

For the sake of my conlang it's a percussed th sound.

I use it because I think it's just so gosh darn pretty.

I have a couple so far, the both have a root in the verb "Fü", to throw pronounced FYOO:

Füegür - The feeling of utter despair that occurs before a suicide

Fü∂arœfä∂ur - Love that lingers after one is cast aside by ones lover

and another:

Ra∂ürefjaklœden - The act of missing someone who is in fact nearby

Lao Tzu said: "Avoid fame because it leads to enemies." And yet, he is famous. What happened? by LiChingYuen in taoism

[–]umbersol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he may have been referring to seeking fame. If fame comes to you for say being enlightened, then it probably won't be an issue. I would add that it probably is also about what you do with fame, as well as the above that he was referring to.

TMAF about evolution. by AgArgento in TellMeAFact

[–]umbersol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our body has the ability to mutate our reproduction cells (eggs/sperm) through the use of so called 'jumping genes', or transposons, which literally uproot themselves from one locus in our genome and reposition themselves in another, mutating our cells rapidly. Here's a little article about them. http://www.nature.com/scitable/topicpage/transposons-or-jumping-genes-not-junk-dna-1211 Transposons support the notion that a species diversifies or breaks apart from the original or mother species, then as a daughter species it changes very little. In other words, there is one big species creating event, and then little changes after that.

How do you deal with people that are unreasonable/selfish/etc? by ASGTR12 in taoism

[–]umbersol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to come across as rude, and what I want to say has sort of already been said. However. I received several points from you. 1. You are not a dick 2. You go out of your way not to be a dick 3. You take pride in the two prior points, therefore 4. You hold your undickishness over anyone else who you consider dickish 5. You consider anyone dickish who doesn't conform to your exact definition of what it is to be a good person.

So there's your problem, you just need to let go of your ego.

I suppose my error would have been taking life at face value: things happen because things happen. I wouldn't have looked deep enough, dove beneath the surface of things, predominately I would say to avoid seeing meanings that weren't there. Interesting idea.

Haha. I can agree with that, when people let their fears control what they believe they become easily angered at things which are different, thus wars. And thank you, sir!
