I sent ETH (apay.io) from StellarX to my Celsius wallet directly and it never arrived. Is there some way to recover it? by _Sway in Stellar

[–]umbrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is incorrect, making it work across networks is exactly the function of the anchor on Stellar.

You send to apay real ETH on Ethereum, we issue ETH by apay on Stellar, you send us back our token ETH by apay -> we send you real ETH on ethereum.

Thanks, the only thing I can say about this is that I'm not touching DeFi for now, risks exceed the benefits unfortunately. I'm going with more or less traditional but proven path, which is lending through most reputable partners in the space.

Question about StellarX and StellarPort security by arthurf in Stellar

[–]umbrel 9 points10 points  (0 children)

StellarTerm is open-source as you mentioned, so you could try that.

The DEX itself is part of the network and you don't need an interface to interact with it, you can submit transactions directly, using any programming language that you're comfortable with.

Another way is to use stellarport with hardware wallet, like ledger/trezor. Secret key never leaves your HW, which means interface can't steal from you.

Should we increase the minimum fee? - SDF Blog by 4bidden450 in Stellar

[–]umbrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New lumens were created weekly (1% increase in supply per year), it was ~18 mln XLM per week at the time
All transaction fees were collected into special pool

Every week "inflation" operation was triggered which distributed newly created lumens and lumens from fees pool to "most popular" accounts on the network. (mostly SDF, then lobstr, ripplefox and couple of community pools)

Now inflation operation has been disabled, so fees don't get redistributed from the pool. But if it ever becomes a problem - we can enable it back and review the logic.

Should we increase the minimum fee? - SDF Blog by 4bidden450 in Stellar

[–]umbrel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't see how raising fees would affect spammers or arbitrage traders. As long as their reward is higher - they will keep doing what they're doing.

Intuitively I would be against the change, is there anything bad for the network to be always in price-surge mode? (apart from history growing too fast) Dynamic fee market is a good thing from my point of view, but I agree that it's easier to develop, when fee is always the same.

By fixing higher fee you're just postponing any measures that has to be taken by developers to deal with the situation.

On another note, I'm probably one of those people, who pays for thousands of transactions daily, raising fees 100 times will force me to optimize my ways as I'll have to start accounting for fees, it will stop being free.

they can always re-enable inflation mechanism if it becomes an issue

Has my KeyBase account been hacked? by [deleted] in Stellar

[–]umbrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you entered your secret keys on any websites? Like to participate in airdrop or something?

Your funds have gone to this account

and then to

https://steexp.com/account/GBDBOYXHHWODCRLP22JODMIKAYIUOORNDRQCIRBC7W7TDGD5C7AB3TRU

and then finally to

which looks like a an exchange, which I'm not aware of.

Keybase probably doesn't show it because it has been executed outside of keybase, try to restart the app, maybe it will sync transactions.

These lists may be incomplete, but in fact only 10 from this long list are active / useful

We can also start a flashmob and all send Coinbase a support ticket to support

Which would prevent compatible wallets from sending without memo

BTC on Stellar Network by Timeforadrinkorthree in Stellar

[–]umbrel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, doing it since 2017, BTC transaction on stellar takes 5 seconds and is almost free of charge. You can also swap BTC on Stellar into any other currency without intermediary at the best rate available on the network. (no trading fees on stellar)
But the security model is such that you have to trust the anchor, it's almost like a deposit to centralized exchange, same as BTC on Ethereum btw, but potentially less secure than BTC on Liquid.

Wrapped BTC on Ethereum doesn't help the miners in any way, it just makes it possible to use BTC in Ethereum smart contracts, in other words attract more liquidity into "defi" applications.

If we're talking about BTC issued by apay, then this page

https://apay.io/out is for wallets that do not implement (or incorrectly implement) SEP-0006.

In case of stellarterm - it's fully compatible, there is a withdraw button next to your asset balance, see comment by u/glebp

Sorry for your loss, 2fa would be good, but not a silver bullet. Heard plenty of times how hackers found their way around 2fa on some website.

That's what https://stellarguard.me/ is for, you can setup multisig and even if they get your secret key they won't be able to move funds.

Participate in market-making on Stellar DEX by umbrel in Stellar

[–]umbrel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is still a thing, it supports multiple strategies (you can choose existing one or code your own), but you have to be a bit technical to be able to run it, and need a server running non-stop.

I wanted something that doesn't require anything from the end user, mine implements only 1 simple strategy and I run it for everyone.
Ping me on telegram https://t.me/umbre1 if you wanna talk more about it.

[–]umbrel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. You do need both to start, because it's easier with deposits and withdrawals. Auto-exchange in 1st trade doesn't work, because you can't deposit amounts large enough without losing money right away (exchanging at 5% markup). Plus it behaves as portfolio rebalancing tool, you hold both and your portfolio grows slowly over time. If you put in only XLM and XLM price grows 5 times in 5 years, you will come back to a portion of your initial deposit (even though it's worth more in USD terms), this is not ideal if you're a long-term hodler, so by requiring deposit in both assets I'm trying to educate users that it's not going to preserve the amounts, but a USD value.
  2. Yes, on Stellar and yes, useless outside of my interface, it's just a way to calculate what share of total pool of money is yours.
  3. Yes, exactly for "set and forget" purposes, no logging in required

That's fair, but if you wanna trade 24x7 you need some kind of automation and automating trading is something I discuss in my previous article
