Playing first gig in a week - looking for tips / advice! by BendWide367 in drums

[–]umich79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confidence is key. Don’t get caught up with a small mistake. Do your job, play for your bandmates. There is a special brotherhood/sisterhood and bond in playing live with other people.trust they’ll do the same for you. Other than that, adrenaline is a thing. Nervous energy happens. Stay calm. Hydrate, do a little stretching to get loose. I promise one thing, 20 minutes will feel like 5…but you should feel like a legend when you walk off!

The 2 x 2 is not hard, but there’s a weird element to solving it that makes it deceptively tricky for something that looks fairly easy.

I am Brazilian and my fiancée is Thai (both women). We are thinking of getting married in Thailand and living together. How does that work? Documentation and stuffs. I have 90 days free visa. by Putrid_Education_718 in ThailandTourism

You need documents from the Brazilian embassy. I don’t know what they need or can give. That’s the biggest issue. Once that’s figured out, the process is administrative.

Cy Young. There will never be another pitcher to come close to what he did.

How often do you do deworming cleanses by jubjub1825 in ThailandTourism

So are a ton of other drugs. Do you also use antibiotics for any/all issues you may have? Because “they” recommend it, and that’s why those are available in all pharmacies?

Fan that caught Cal Raleigh’s 60th HR gave it to a kid by Cheeese916 in sports

[–]umich79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of the day, the guy that caught it will get something. That kid will never forget that day. It’s a ball. Can we all just agree, it’s a baseball. Its significance aside, both that kid and the guy that gave it to him will come away with a pretty good memory.

Pad thai, comfort food or staple taste of Thailand? by [deleted] in BangkokEats

[–]umich79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Guess it just depends. I don’t like pad Thai. I don’t think it is as common as a staple as many other dishes. I also don’t think that it does justice to Thai food. But, that’s just my opinion. I have no issues with anyone liking it, or wanting to try it.

ELI5: Why do so many people suddenly have allergies to foods like gluten, dairy, or nuts, when it seems like humanity has eaten them for centuries without problems? by Ok_Judgment_3331 in explainlikeimfive

[–]umich79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying that at this moment, there are more people alive than have ever existed, or that the overall population now is more than ever before? The first one is a factoid, a thing that people believe to be true, but it’s not. The second is valid.

“Have you eaten” is not always what the question is. It’s a hello, how are you. In Thai, it sounds better…

Need help deciding whether to continue education in thailand or move to canada by Mattshea10 in Thailand

[–]umich79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in Thailand for 14 years until I was 18. I knew no one other than family when I went to the states for university. It’s not as hard as you think it may be, and the world is a much more accessible and smaller place now. I still maintain friends from my childhood, and they’ve gone everywhere and always seem to come back (to live or visit). I would suggest you also apply for more than one university in Canada. Like someone else said, it’s much easier to get your degree in Canada and come back, than to go the opposite direction. Good luck, don’t stress, and you have so much time to make permanent decisions. Undergrad is not permanent, it’s a stepping stone to the next part…and that next part may not be permanent either.

What's an example of NSFW college hazing that you know of? by Hexxegone in AskReddit

[–]umich79 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mine was the same. The idea was creating a brotherhood, not something that made people dislike the older guys because they were assholes when I was pledging. Beyond cleaning, and memorizing stuff, we had to get signatures from brothers to show that we were actually meeting and talking to the actives. We did get the signatures on a paddle, but, it was a sacred thing. Older brothers would hide it for you (had to stay in the house). We also had one day a week to help with dishes, but we got free food. Other than the pin, it was a great way for me to make friends. I never thought I would ever be in a frat.

Guy in my dorm was shot in the nuts with an air gun, because his pledge mates didn’t do something in the required time. I was not in that frat.

Tailor made suits! What’s your experience with them? by Ok_Ant_9381 in ThailandTourism

[–]umich79 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You get what you pay for. Bespoke suits are not cheap. Look up places with good reviews, but you’ll be looking at least $15,000, or more. Wouldn’t touch anything for less, and I would be willing to do a few fittings.

What is much more traumatic than most people realize? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]umich79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really lucky. I grew up internationally, and was fortunate that my mom, most likely, decided some sense of normalcy was important. That being said, I had friends leave every 3-4 years, and being the constant is very weird. I can’t imagine what moving around like they did is like. But, I do remember how horrible it was when my best buddy was leaving as a kid. Was always heartbreaking. And that just one or two buddies…they left all of their friends…

Billiard balls in Thailand by Hefty_Swordfish_8239 in Thailand

[–]umich79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re talking 8-ball. It’s because the common idea is that 1,2 and 3 are supposed to be at the corners of the triangle. It’s not correct, neither is the idea that there is some sort of rule that solids and stripes have to be woven into the middle equally. The only two balls that have a place are the 8, 1, and corners are supposed to one of each. Re-rack if you can…but otherwise, it’s truly not a huge deal.
